A new side-by-side double barrel shotgun would be a great way to introduce slugs into WB for a different shotgun experience. By being a SBS design it would already be easier to differentiate from the OU (over under) design of the current Shotgun.
I verified that an existing model exists in one of the synty packs... the same one that the Sawed Off appears to come from. Please note that this is a suggestion for a new weapon and NOT a form of sawed off. Visually this weapon would be similar to shotguns like the Stoeger Coach Gun with the full barrel intact.

Brief summary of stats

  • 350 DMG
  • slugs (single shot)
  • "mag" size of 2
  • 3 RPS
  • 1.8s reload
  • 1.0s swap
  • 90-95% run speed
  • 25% damage over 15m to 100m (50 to 328 feet)
  • medium recoil
  • low vehicle damage

Exploring the SBS DBS further

While bulky and annoying to run with (90%-95% run speed vs the 98% and 99% of Shotgun and Tactical Shotgun) it is going to be a bit slower for people looking to run and gun.
Having only two rounds though, reloads are a bit faster than the Shotgun. The use of slugs makes it worthwhile as opposed to the pellets in the shotguns even if there are only two shells that can be fired at a time before reload. With slugs a player will have more control to directly hit players. At a fire rate of 3 RPS, this shotgun could shoot both of its slugs quicker than the other shotguns but will be held back by the small capacity and need for reloads. While higher fire rates could be explored, too high means that the use of the Ammo ability in events will make this very strong in events and so I recommend the fire rate is kept in check for situations where the capacity of 2 no longer holds it back.

Slugs allow for further range too, not being affected by pellet spread. The massive damage of 350 guarantees this gun hits hard even as damage falls off. It would make sense for this shotgun to hit vehicles. The damage falls off enough to not become a sniper by accident and will be 3 head shots from 98m onwards (requiring a reload in between). This grants it room for decent range for a close ranged OHKO weapon that is faster than a .50 Cal/Sniper for the players that love to use the .50 Cal especially in maps like Office and Tribute, but means that you can't just rock it on every map when it should be for closer ranges.

Players would have a different play style option for shotguns with a slug interaction like this, and players already used to .50 Cal in CQC would likely enjoy a weapon that emulates that experience but designed more for it due to the enhanced fire rate.
The recoil should be higher than the Shotgun but not massive. This is both for balancing and because it makes sense for a SBS design to have a little more recoil than a more modern OU design.

context for those unfamiliar:

OU on the left
SBS on the right

#

the current Shotgun is an over under design

#

I think a break-action side-by-side design like this would be pretty easy to tell apart

#

to the pump shotgun in over under design

#

-# run speed listed as 90% but can work as 95%... would depend on the feel but it's not like I can just test a weapon, I can only work with designs on paper

#

-# DPS is pure DPS if you never had to stop for reloads (e.g. ammo ability), True DPS is how much players ACTUALLY do because of reloads and capacity and is based on body shots, not head shots

-# Combined DMG is how much damage a shotgun does when EVERY pellet hits, while the maximum damage refers to if EVERY pellet hits the head... note that most of the time a player hitting every single pellet will be landing a mixture of body and head shots so the damage is often in between the two numbers (except for DBS which has one shot)

I like all plok suggestions

I would rather a blunderbuss type thing, hits super hard but takes forever to reload. Like 20 seconds long. But anything short range is cool.

#

a blunderbuss/flintlock sort of sidearm is something I will eventually be suggesting once I sit down on it

#

the issue with something being too slow if it's a MAIN weapon is that things like the Crossbow exist
