Similar to Hypixel, a list of words that are censored in and are deemed inappropriate for chat.
And so it's not entirely controlled by the people who make this list of inappropriate words, a system for players to select how much censorship they would like on their end (none: no censorship, medium: the words to be put in the **** form, or high: the entire message to be removed from view) and by default the user's censorship level will be set to high. In addition to this, the user has a list of words the player can add to for their own custom list of words they would like to be censored. For the player who sends the message, the words that are on the list will show up in the **** form on their chat box. This will help make it clearer to players what words are deemed inappropriate and will make there be one less thing to worry about when handing out mutes.

The game already incorporates a chat filter. When you send a message, if it contains anything from the filter then the message is blocked by the server and will not be sent to other players.
This can lead to some players feeling ghosted sometimes because nobody answered them: they typed something that was in the filter.

#

As for your idea on customisation (based on the assumption there is no filter), this completely destroys the purpose of the game's terms.

#

If profanity is not allowed, then it's not allowed. It won't be an option to see it, or see it as ### or *** forms. It will be blocked or it's a bypass. If people wish to break the game's terms, they will be punished.

#

If people are worried about being muted, I have a simple explanation. Do not use profanity. Do not be toxic. Think before you type.

And that doesn't just block profanities. It is also for harmful content.

oh no I pinged plok

#

well goodbye cruel world

Like changing o to 0, l to 1 or something like that

#

It's not necessarily going to lead to a better scenario

open echo
#

I hadn't considered that...

#

how about some guidelines giving examples of the limits of what is acceptable and what's not

Blocking them silently would be the opposite; good players would be confused, bad players would think that people are just ignoring them without realizing that their messages were actually blocked

#

So they would continue sending more messages, and proceed to get blocked silently

Bypasses are common, as people know that they are not allowed. There is 0 intent to help people try to bypass the filter. As profanities and such are not allowed, that's it. And when we see bypasses, again, with 0 hesitation they end up on the permanent mute list.

I believe we have that covered with the TOS, that is not read by players.

No list will be provided

#

common practice for services to not disclose the exact list of words in their filters

#

if the exact terms were known, people would study them to look for ways to bypass

#

or try to find the worst thing they can send that isn't blocked

#

that is the wrong mindset

#

stick to clean language and you should never have issues

#

I don't think it's too confusing to just stick to clear language and avoid obviously bad terms

#

and avoid grey areas

positive means not demeaning, putting people down, or otherwise being toxic

#

clean means no language that is crude, crass, profane, obscene, lewd, or otherwise "dirty"

#

if you have ever gone to school, a restaurant, held a job, attended a church, gone to a hospital, or similar, then you should be fairly accustomed to a basic level of common sense when it comes to speaking respectfully with others

#

for a game like WB, it should be simple to stick to "enemy on the left" and "gg guys"

#

"oh well, aim's not the best today" and "I'll do better next time"

open echo
#

oh so you can't have a normal conversation with someone?

candid wharf
#

I take it then that you are quite the rebel

#

a normal conversation has never needed profanity

open echo
#

I don't use profanities

candid wharf
#

there's a reason it's not something seen in the workplace or schools

#

unless you get out to tradie jobs

#

sometimes the workplace gets a bit crass

#

as long as you don't get angry at people, call them idiots, swear, etc.

#

and stick to regular normal conversation

#

nobody should have much to worry over

open echo
#

so can I say anything like 'omg this guy just stop camping'

candid wharf
#

that's a bit of complaining

#

not attacking them, not being profane

open echo
#

ye so that fine ?

candid wharf
#

yes, you're welcome to have a little complaining to yourself

Just be respectful, remember this is all a game, and don't forget that we're all human – you should be good.
