I started hosting a server on a local machine (not the one i use to play MC). I am able to join from my gaming desktop using the hosting PC's IPv6 address however whenever i try to join using the public ipv4 or ipv6 address i cannot. Same goes for my friends. I tried port fowarding through my router and the locally hosted machine and still no luck. Also tried turning off firewall rules completely and same result. Hoping someone can help

Have you set the connection address to 0.0.0.0 in server.properties
make sure to check for this too
So that was what was written there before I deleted it. Should i replace it again?
try that, yea
so I just want to double check. Do I NEED to port foward for this to work properly?
@patent sluice, you just advanced to level 2 !
if you want people outside of your home network to connect - yes
okay so i set it to 0.0.0.0 and i still cant log in
so im able to connecct to the server using he devices 1pv4 address from the ipconfig cmd @ocean cave but when i try to connect using the public address i get that message
have you checked whether the port is open?
Port Checker is a simple tool to check for open ports and test port forwarding setup on your router.
Verify and diagnose connection errors on your computer.
ah it says closed @ocean cave
so do i need to restart my router with the port foward applied?
restarted my router with the port forward applied but still closed
anyone else have any ideas?
Have you checked for this?
Might want to ask your ISP
