hello! i am in the process of changing my minecraft server from v21 to v21 HF (it is medieval mc 1 fabric, aka mmc1) i have no idea what to do and the tutorials i have been given have proven too confusing or unhelpful. does anyone know how to use winscp to update the modpack version on the server or something else? all help is appreciated.

I'll make some screen shots.

give me a few moments.

@frozen bridge, you just advanced to level 3 !

Firstly in run.bat/start.bat open it up in a text editor and find -jar YourJarNameHere.jar

copy what ever your YourJarNameHere.jar is actually called and paste it here

narrow stream
#

i may have said this before, correct me if i am wrong, but the server pack/file i have downloaded does not have a run.bat/start.bat file

#

this is what i have to work with, nothing more (unzipped/extracted)

frozen bridge
#

I see, I've just downloaded it and I'm looking through the code now, let me get back to you.

#

I see I see, so that start.ps1 actually downloads the rest of the server software instead of it being bundled

narrow stream
#

ah, i see

frozen bridge
#

I need to install java 17 to run it, so let me do that

narrow stream
#

it takes me to notepad when i run it, is that how it is supposed to work or do i need to install java 17 as well?

frozen bridge
#

No, if you're running the start.ps1 file you need to right click on it and click on run with powershell

narrow stream
#

gotcha

frozen bridge
#

and you might have java 17 installed already, I don't play anything newer than 1.12.2 so I don't

narrow stream
#

shoot, i dont have powershell installed. do you know how to install it?

frozen bridge
#

powershell is base windows, what version of windows are you running?

narrow stream
#

hm.. i use windows 11

frozen bridge
#

it is still part of win11, I can see that your pc recognizes it based on the file icon

narrow stream
#

would downloading it from the microsoft store work?

#

OH MY GOSH

#

i didnt even see the "Run with PowerShell" command, i apologize

frozen bridge
#

No sweat! glad you found it.

I was generating the files my self just in case you need them I might be able to reupload them though I'm unsure of the rules on that.

narrow stream
#

alrighty, well the tab crashes/closes out immiedately when i choose the option.

narrow stream
frozen bridge
#

I'm not sure, with it being a preinstalled windows program, you'd have to have edited some system files that are normally protected to actually break it

narrow stream
#

odd. it must be crashing for a reason, though.

#

when i open the powershell script it gives me a brief message in red and closes out, not giving me enough time to see what it says nor let the commands run

frozen bridge
#

you too might not have java 17 installed

narrow stream
#

mk, well.. any way to get java 17 installed?

frozen bridge
#

@supple shuttle can I post a google drive link?

If he says yes, I can just give you the files it generates instead of you having to try do this on win11.

narrow stream
#

gotcha

#

i have google drive on my laptop so this should hopefully have no problems

frozen bridge
#

if not, then you can install java 17 from either the offical java source oracle, but you need an account, or you can google java 17 amazon, and download it from Amazon Corretto 17. just make sure you get the windows x64 version

supple shuttle
#

uh... sure i guess? It'll probably be deleted so i can just resend it

frozen bridge
#

Thank you!

narrow stream
frozen bridge
#

that is the server pack + the files the start.bat generates

narrow stream
#

i also checked if i had powershell; i do have it afaik

#

ah.

#

the download may take a while so could you give me more instructions on what to do after it finishes the download?

frozen bridge
#

I'm just looking at how the server launches it self normally, this is quite the odd server pack if I'm being honest

narrow stream
#

huh, alr

@frozen bridge, you just advanced to level 4 !

narrow stream
frozen bridge
#

in my screen shot with the red arrow pointing at it.

narrow stream
#

kk

#

OH, i misunderstood. i thought you meant in the scripts ran through powershell

frozen bridge
#

I should have replied to my self if I didn't its the top message

narrow stream
#

its fine!

frozen bridge
#

sweet!

#

honestly, I just did some very limited testing, but once you upload the file I set you to your server you should be just about ready to launch

narrow stream
#

cool!

frozen bridge
#

now you can either try winscp again or just use the file manager on the panel webpage

#

then pick the zip file, and let it upload

#

when that's done find it and select the little box next to it.

Example:

#

then click on Utilities in the top right hand side under the start button.

And click extract

#

when that's done, click on the reload button

And your files should show up.

Just makes sure you see fabric-server-launcher.jar in the same folder as the zip, the main folder I mean.

#

after that, just hit start and it should load up

#

if it doesn't, I'll try my best to debug, but it is currently 2:46am so I might fall asleep as I'm currently in bed waiting for my husband to get home lol.

narrow stream
#

lmao

#

OK it has downloaded

#

what do i do next?

narrow stream
#

mhm, however.

#

it just gives me this for the .jar file

#

is this file correct or?

frozen bridge
#

yep! just upload the zip though, because it will talk a long time to upload each file one after the other

narrow stream
#

kk

regal oysterBOT
#

@narrow stream, you just advanced to level 4 !

frozen bridge
#

which is why we can extract the file from the panel.

#

once you've extracted it, it will place all the files in the main server folder.
if you want to save space after that, you can delete the .zip you uploaded, but make sure it's all running first, just in case it didn't extract all the files or something along those lines

narrow stream
#

it keeps going from 0% to 4% and back.. is there something wrong?

frozen bridge
#

I don't think so, just don't reload the page and as long as it doesn't give you an error you should be good

narrow stream
#

OK!

#

yea the download percentage keeps going down and up, not really progressing

#

@frozen bridge you there?

#

just makin' sure

frozen bridge
#

sorry yeah, I'm here, you can try winscp again if this doesn't work.

It's likely just an issue of your network speed so I don't actually know if there is a timeout on the file manager, if there is you might not be able to use it to upload large files with slow internet

narrow stream
#

yeah its likely my network, how would i do so with winscp?

frozen bridge
#

if you still can't drag and drop.

In win scp login to your server.

then on the left panel, find the file you want to transfer, the .zip file.

then right click on the file and click upload

frozen bridge
narrow stream
#

i can drag and drop now

frozen bridge
#

sweet!

narrow stream
#

i have to upload it then right?

frozen bridge
#

yep

narrow stream
#

ye

#

what does this mean? i think i have the serverpack in the files, yet i cannot extract/unzip it

frozen bridge
narrow stream
#

which one is it? the first one i cannot select

#

i think the second one is unzipped? though it still says .zip
