Is it possible to make custom zombies in game? Using custom meshes, and possibly editing stats?

Like a zombie that has custom textures.. maybe more blood or gore, and it has random variable health and whatnot. It is something that would benefit my map severely and would like to know if it is possible.

I saw a mod somewhere use custom meshes to make a half-life zombie, but I want to know how to do that and if I can take things a step further!

I've never seen anyone do that, I think that replacement meshes are coded to not apply on zombies.

The best way to make an aggressive entity that isn't a zombie would be to use an animal instead, like the Elver Cultist

I want to mimic the functionality of zombies as closely as possible in order to be coherent with the zombies in vanilla

and if you make the animal hostile it will act the same way zombies do

as for the drop spawns you wont be able to edit their drops per animal spawns as you do with zombies, so if you want them to have individual drop spawn tables you will have to make a new animal for each
