I recently installed deathrun remade on my microsoft store copy of Subnautica and it works. However, when I save and quit and try to reload the save it says that I can't load that save because it is a vanilla save (even though I created the save and played it with deathrun enabled). I made a new save and the same thing happened.

Deathrun Remade might have some issues on the MS version of the game as it was coded for version 71288

You can get that version of the game from Epic Games or Steam

Ok thanks! Is the version I have newer or older? That is, does Microsoft need to update the game version or does the modder need to update the mod for my game to be compatible with the mod?

Maybe in future they will when UWE has finished all their BZ backporting and controller fixing, but that would break most all mods
