Even though I have accepted that this is likely impossible. I still would love to find my original character from my teenage years. This character is the birthplace of what is now my online persona and such it and Runescape will always hold a special place in my heart

Do you remember the login name? If the account was 20~ years old it would be the character's original name.

which is strange. because in making my new character the name was not available. But could that be because its in Runescape 3?

Yeah, each account can log into either RS3 or OSRS, but character progress is not shared between games, just the friend list & clan
It's also possible the name was removed from your character and someone else has the name name. A while back Jagex removed names from inactive accounts (I think it was in 2017)

But yea, it never occured to me that it would have been with the newest version of Runescape. because osrs was its on release

It isn't great to lose the old original character but just know you may not be missing much; i recovered my old account and signed on just to show my friend how far i'd gotten back in the day and they literally took away quest completions and it took me over 10 minutes just to figure out how to type in public chat. If you do somehow eventually recover the account that'd be great but it probably won't be the nostalgia trip you'd want.

it would only be if what I completed in OG rs somehow transferred to OSRS. I have zero desire to play modern RS
