#Clarity on AI rules for #game-suggestions

I have read the rules in #1022203837265756231 and the general server #rules , but I feel there is a slight lack of clarity on AI usage for suggestions.

The rules in #1022203837265756231 state:

No AI generated posts
which to me reads as "No using AI to generate a giant wall of text that you paste here", which seems fairly reasonable.

The server rules additionally state as a possible warning #15:

Share generative AI artwork or content in creative-based channels, or anywhere else claiming it as your own work.
Ideally you would avoid sharing AI work altogether, as we want to encourage our players to be creative but must protect those who create art. While doing so won't result in a ban, excessive sharing that resembles spam, sharing posts that are clearly AI generated, or sharing AI art suggesting it is your own, may result in message deletion or warnings.

thus when combined, it implies to me that AI art is potentially allowed in #1022203837265756231 provided it is clearly labelled as AI.

As an artistically challenged individual, I am potentially interested in using AI to generate an image to help convey an idea. A picture is worth a thousand words, after all, but I do not want to catch flack from the mods since the rules are somewhat ambiguous in this area.

I think the #1022203837265756231 rule should either be updated to clarify this, such as:

  • "No AI generated posts or images"
  • "No AI generated text posts, but images are acceptable if clearly labelled as AI"

Alright, just to put the context out there:

  • I consider myself an artist
  • I do not know enough about the internal working of generative AI to say whether or not it's morally correct
  • Either way, it does not effect my revenue as I create art exclusively as a hobby

With that out of the way, I think using AI art in a game suggestion is sort of shooting yourself in the foot. OSRS has a very unique art style and I don't think other styles can really be applied to it in a way that works for a game suggestion- whether or not that style is AI generated. However, I do acknowledge that presentation is a huge part of a good suggestion... partially because people don't like reading over-explanative walls of text, but also because it shows actual thought and effort was put into the suggestion. Using AI imagery gives almost the opposite vibe!

I do think the rule should be updated to be more clear. As for which version, I'm on the fence as to whether AI generated imagery should be allowed- I don't think using it is a good idea but I'm generally against banning things in their entirety. There are some suggestions where an image is needed, and the creator may not be able to accurately portray their ideas by hand- I think, in these (admittedly few) situations, they should still be allowed to do so

For some clarification, while we would prefer that your suggestion be 100% made by you and have AI take zero part in the creation process, if the majority of the suggestion is made by you with only supplementary aspects done by AI then it's not a huge concern and reason for action.

Here are some examples:

šŸŸ¢ The suggestion may have slight AI input in the text but is primarily written by the user
šŸ”“ The suggestion is just an AI image with text saying "Add this"
šŸ”“ The suggestion is all AI text output or significantly AI text output.

Sometimes it just ends up becoming a case by case basis, the safest bet to prevent your suggestion being actioned is to just not use AI at all.

There was a post a while back where someone used ai to clean up their post as English was not their first language.

The content of the post read mostly normally but with ai evident and layout and presentation too formal, all the comments revolved around "ai slop" and disregarded the effort and message from the poster.

If one must use ai to flesh out their ideas, be sure to edit accordingly and use simpler terms and plainer presentation

e.g.
"No AI Generated posts" -> "AI may be used in limited circumstances. See the FAQs below for acceptable examples"
