#MEMBERSHIP DEALS

good question
if you remember this, think it was over a year ago now, jagex proposed this, having different membership packages like that, discounted packages for more accounts, etc
there was so much player outrage over the idea that jagex quickly dropped it
to go into more detail, jagex sent out surveys trying to see how players felt about various packages, what ideas they liked and what they didn't like, so there was good packages shown and some not so good packages shown, but the playerbase latched onto the bad ones so hard and it was so negative that Jagex had no choice to 100% backpedal
so, the reason we can't have it is because the playerbase didn't understand the point of a survey and made Jagex scrap the whole idea
idk, the fact that the survey even proposed some of those things was rightly considered a really bad sign
if they'd only proposed membership packages and not started doing things like encroaching on gameplay benefits and detriments with logout timer length, maybe they wouldn't have had a problem in the first place
some stuff should be outright radioactive
or, like, "enhanced player support"
Tbf, that survey was really bad in multiple ways. All the silly ideas they had along with the fact that only a tiny portion of players got them.
If they just went with "Do you want to see $x for x number of accounts package or slight discount for access to only osrs OR Rs3" kind of things, it would have definitely been well received.
But they tried to add far to many things that clearly indicated a negative direction that was influenced by corporate greed.
that's why it was a survey, the point was to gather data to see what people liked and didn't like, and it would've presented them with clear data that players didn't like those ideas like enhanced player support on a higher tier membership
but the reaction of it was so blown up that the whole thing had to be tossed
Yeah that was one of the main issues with the survey. If the purpose was to see how the playerbase would react, they got their results. But if they were trying to explore new monetization options for membership, this was an absolute failure of an attempt.
If they had cut out the obviously bad part of the survey, it would have been fine.
And that's exactly what it did.
Those types of surveys are sentiment surveys meant to test extremes to link product purchasing habits. They're fairly common, and Jagex has a high level statistician team that knows this. The entire thing was intentionally designed that way.
The biggest problem is they couldn't read the room with rs3 existing being the reason osrs exists. They basically asked one religion about the fundamentalist beliefs of another. Of course it was going to blow up in their faces.
