It'd be vaguely nice to not have to coordinate with friends and just have stuff we share go back to each other at a set time, but I suspect it's a significant amount of dev time for very few realistic uses

oh one final thing is, if loans are a thing, renting is gonna be a thing and if thats a thing, there would no incentive to sell ur gear to the ge if u could just rent your gear out to people for free profits and then eventually you wont be able to get ur hands on one even if you have the money

I used to lend my SGS for 2m/24hrs to sell junk. Not a good idea these days

However I could see something at the g.e where U could rent items from an NPC for like 5% of the g.e value/hour. Could serve as a goldsink too

Buuut rented items would also need an identifier if it was a thing

Isn't that just what degradable armor is? We don't have equipment that you repair with items, only gp

lending is an amazing system that i would love to see in this game, obviously it needs a few special accommodations, just to name a few obvious ones:

  • borrowed items can't be brought into pvp areas, full stop
  • you can't lend an item with anything else in the trade window on either side, this would eliminate the unhealthy practice of renting
  • items that degrade can either not be lent, or can only be lent if the borrower has enough gold in a special coffer to pay for the degradation, you would not be able to withdraw from this coffer if you're currently borrowing any items

Nah lending would be pretty bad, it would just turn into renting which is pretty horrible
