#Repair Kits Should Be Salvageable, Scrapable, Dismantle-able

Tossing an idea out there to gather some community input. The title is pretty self-explanatory, but to provide additional clarity, we should be able to dismantle repair kits for a chance of receiving partial resources used to create those kits.

I’ve put together a table (that I can't add [or images]), along with a formula underneath where success rate would scale with skill level. Which skill level? I’m not sure. Construction or Sailing or both?

The formula, in my head, would work like crushing gems, and require users to utilize the Salvage Station at Ports. Not the ones found on POBs (player-owned boats)

A variety of game messages could populate saying something like:
*"You managed to salvage ::4 Adamantite Nails & 0 Planks:: from the Repair Kit."
"You lack the skill required to salvage anything."
"You completely ruined the Repair Kit." *

[Repair Kit Type

NOTES:
-This should give 0 experience; the purpose is simply to remove excess repair kits while keeping them somewhat useful.
-Currently, excess repair kits can only be dropped, sold on the GE, or sold to a General Store (irons).
-Any benefit from cyclical XP loops would mainly affect niche ironman modes (“skill-locked,” “grid-locked”). It would actually be a GP loss compared to many standard GP/XP methods.
-The small amount of refunded materials wouldn’t be game-breaking, overpowered, or economically impactful.
-As an Iron, it’s still more efficient to chop logs → planks or MLM → smelt than to salvage shipwrecks for kits to break down.
-For the main game, higher-tier kits might add minor gp/hr, but likely less than just selling the kits directly.

Cutting Gems transforms the uncut gem into a new item. Meanwhile this is a refund of materials. Nails and planks should not be refundable in any way and as an iron myself id have to say aabsolutely not lol

That's a fair take. Thanks for the input!

You can always use "excess repair kits", just take them with you when you do combat, its fine if its a lower tier one

plus id imagine that pretty soon when they update sailing more you will have a very serious use for every repair kit you have(I hope) lol like a boss or non safe spot monster

You can alch repair kits, but this would also trivialize getting dragon nails in a way idt the devs want (they’re around 100k ea rn for reference)

Saving nails would make sense, since they are stackable. Given that the high end repair kits are quite expensive right now. I would tie that to construction though, not sailing.
