#Sailing boosts should either not exist or work like the rest of the game

Why is it that in literaly every other skill, when you boost to a visible level, you can do the action?
Want to boost for that fury because you don't have 90 crafting? Go right ahead.
Want to boost to put that altar in your house because you don't have 90 construction? Check.
Don't have a whip, but have 82 slayer? Eat some wild pies, nobody is going to stop you.
Need some magic logs for that quest? Your dragon axe will help you get the log or two you need.

Sailing is basically a minigame in where this rule need not apply.

What can you boost for?
Salvaging
Building Boat Facilities
Recruiting Crewmates

But building facilities has massive caveats attached to it.

What can't you boost for?
Docking
Sea charting
Barracuda Trials
Using boat facilities
Buying more boats
Buying bigger boats

Basically anything you would benefit from actually boosting for you can not do.

Let's look back at the facilities you can boost for:
Boat facilities:
You can boost to build it? What is this useful for?

  • Hulls, sails, and helms: They all work as expected, you get the speed boosts and protections you expect.
  • You can build that adamant keel you were looking forward to, but too bad it's functionally useless. You can sail into the crystal flecked waters, but what can you do? You cannot dock at a port because you can't boost for it. You can't go sea charting to make up some exp. Why are you here? You can't do anything.
  • Oh, you are just a few level away from make that salvaging hook? You boost to make it. Too bad you can't use it unless you are also boosted to the level. This one is mildly annoying, since sailing is both a production skill and a utility skill. It's like trying to make a rune pick before you can use it, but it also undermines it's usefulness. You can boost for portals in your house and don't need to be the magic level to use them.

Now lets look at that again: You were able to boost for equipment, but unable to boost for the training method.
That is backwards from the way the rest of the game works. Why? So you can artificially gate content off? It's not very old school to not allow boosting for training methods.
You can boost for agility courses, why not barracuda trials? Make it so that whenever you interact with a critical portion, you need the boost. Acquiring rum/frogs? Throwing frogs? That's running the course.
Construction lets you boost to build your house. It doesn't let you have more rooms by boosting, but it doesn't stop you from anything else. I should be able to dock by boosting, I should be able to explore by boosting.

I will restate it again, IN ALL OTHER SKILLS, IF YOU MEET THE VISIBLE LEVEL, YOU CAN DO THE ACTION
Sailing is a minigame and need not apply.

I think the current sailing boosts are very good as they are currently balanced and implemented.

#

Boosting to use facilities above your level is still extremely viable because of the Keg.

In general osrs is not all that consistent about how boosting works, hence why you will often ask or be asked "Can you boost for X?". I think some of your points make sense, but there's a lot of just upset rant in here too, and a few comparisons that don't really apply as well.

I just wish it would work for docking/mooring. Would be nice to start frost dragons at 82 sailing

I feel like at that point the requirement would just be a few levels higher to get to the islands at that point, if they let you boost for it lmao
