1. Clan Recruitment Board Overhaul

Right now, the recruitment board feels a bit limited. Since it’s tied to individual worlds, it makes it hard for players to actually find clans that suit them. Recruiters have to world-hop or rely on random chat spam, and smaller clans barely get noticed at all.

I think the recruitment board should be reworked so it works across all worlds. Players should be able to search for clans by what they enjoy like PvM, Skilling, PvP, or Social and maybe even by timezone or clan size. Having a proper search and filtering system would make finding and joining the right clan much easier.

This kind of update would also make the game less dependent on Discord for recruiting. A lot of players, especially newer ones, don’t know where to search for clans outside the game. Having everything built into the in-game system would make joining a clan more straightforward and accessible for everyone.

An updated clan recruitment board that connects all worlds and includes better search options would really improve how people discover and join clans. It would help both new players looking for a community and existing clans trying to grow.

2. Remove Accept Aid Requirement for Clan Recruitment

the Accept Aid system should not be required for players to join a clan In my opinion. Right now, requiring Accept Aid to be on for new clan members feels sketchy and can be intimidating for new or returning player. It doesn’t feel natural and could discourage people from joining, especially if they don’t fully understand what it does. Removing this requirement would: Make joining a clan feel safer and more welcoming. Reduce confusion for new members who may not know how Accept Aid works. Keep the focus on finding the right clan and joining the community, rather than worrying about in-game mechanics that don’t affect recruitment.

believe there are still more ideas for improving clans. These are just the ones that came to mind for now. If I think of any more, I’ll post them as a reply in this thread. Thank you all for reading and joining the discussion!

I absolutely agree, most people that I find that love our clan for being able to help them along were lucky to have disc in the first place. There should absolutely be an avenue for people to find us regardless of disc. I find us to be one of the most user friendly clans that exist, especially for people that have lower/mid game accounts. I personally take pride in the fact that we dont bully out anyone that isnt endgame and unfortunately it seems that happens to a lot of players with the current system in place.

Also, the accept thing is a no brainer in my opinion.

The recruitment board could definitely use a rework. Clans should be listed on the recruitment board at all times, regardless of which world they’re on and without requiring the recruiter to remain logged in. It might also be worth having the looking for clan Discord channel linked directly on the OSRS homepage or even syncing the in-game recruitment board to the officiall website could help increase visibility.

At the same time, Discord is still the main hub for communication. It’s where key info gets posted like announcements and events. For us, Discord will continue to be the standard for new recruits since it’s the best way to stay connected with the community and know what’s happening.

I’m not saying players should be forced to use Discord in order to enjoy the game, but if someone really wants to get the full experience out of a clan, then they should learn to adapt because it’s a big part of how most clans operate today.

For many clans, especially those that use Discord as part of their recruitment process, it’s usually easier to properly vet someone here first. Personally, I wouldn’t accept someone straight into the in-game cc without them going through our Discord first, but if there was some kind of in-game waitlist or application question system, it would be really useful to at least see who’s interested. That way I could speak to them in-game first and then send them an invite to our server.

If safety is the concern, then I think current members of the clan should be accounted for as well. It isn’t exactly safe to accept anyone solely in-game either because they could be anybody. While it’s still possible for someone to slip through the cracks on Discord, at least it provides an extra layer of security.

Clans like ours who have a Discord application or vetting process, should have a way to communicate with those players before actually accepting them in-game since their private chat could be off, otherwise its a risk. We’ve also run into cases where previously banned members tried to sneak back in on alt accounts, so being able to check details like Discord UIDs helps prevent that.

I would be fine with removing the accept aid requirement in order to send an invite, mainly for convenience sake to save time, since some people have it off or don’t know where to find it.

As far as it making things feel safer goes, you can always refer them to the clan wiki page which states accept aid must be turned on to receive an invite to a clan. I understand this may feel like an extra step, but if a new recruit already doesn’t trust leadership, then they shouldn’t be in that clan to begin with, nor should you want someone like that around imo.

Not trying to project my own experience on to others, but I’ve done hundreds of thousands of invites and I’ve never had anyone refuse to join because they were told to turn aid on. You’re probably more likely to run in to this issue if you mainly recruit at the ge. We require people to apply through the Discord first, where they can tell we’re an established clan and not some underground luring enterprise. A player who understands the functionality of accepted aid, is more likely to be sketched out as opposed to someone who doesn’t. I just tell them they can simply turn it right off after the invite.

I completely agree with what you said having an application process in-game through the recruitment board is exactly what I believe would benefit clans and clan leaders. Vetting members on Discord is, of course, an internal process for each clan, but yes, most clans handle it the same way.

What I forgot to mention in my original post is the Admin Key. Its current placement is, in my opinion, a missed opportunity and quite illogical. As a clan, we would greatly benefit from either:

Being able to move it where we want, or

Having it placed as a third slot, directly under the Deputy Owner role.

I’ve seen there’s already a post discussing this please check that out as well: #1393340711641808966 message

Would love an overhaul to the system like you’ve mentioned. Also telling folks to turn on accept aid at the GE is very sus as well

plusone on everything! I have had many new members become uncomfortable when asked to turn aid on. It seems completely unnecessary.

Big plusone on the admin key, we don’t even use that rank as we need spaces for more ranks without them having perms. PLEASE give us the ability to move it or put it under the other keys. It is INCREDIBLY impractical for us atm.

Clans are a huge part of the social aspect of osrs, i would love to see some more time put into them!

Thanks for the reply. Clans are indeed a huge part of the social aspect of the game. Large portions of content are meant to be done in groups, and there’s no better way to experience that than with a supportive clan behind you. I completely agree the clan system as a whole deserves much more attention. Hopefully this post reaches the right people all we can do now is cross our fingers and hope for the best.

Clans definitely deserve some love. I'd like to add a tiny idea to this since it doesn't warrant it's own post.

Pet storage in the clan hall
You can have up to 1 pet per member, up to a limit if neccessary (tied to permissions), Pet's have their owner's RSN in their names as an identifier (E.g. Tkavil's Beaver, Zezima's Skotos)

That is all. Great work

Would be a decent GP sink

Thanks for keeping the conversation going! I really like the idea of adding pet storage to the clan hall it’s not the most crucial update for clans right now, but if they ever decide to revamp the clan system, it’d be a great feature to include.

As for tying recruitment permissions to the clan vex, I have to disagree. You can already set which ranks are allowed to recruit, so if someone’s causing issues, it usually comes down to being more selective about who you give that permission to.

Another major issue I’ve noticed is the cap limit on the clan coffer, which is currently set at 50 million GP. That feels like a missed opportunity it should really be reconsidered in future clan updates. RWT concerns aside, I’m sure there are better ways to prevent RWT than simply capping it at 50M GP.

Unrelated, but I’d love to be able to filter public chat to be only clan mates. I can’t feasibly add every clannie as a friend, but I’d still like to be able to greet them at places I might prefer to have public chat turned off (like forestry or minigame masses, or even just the ge)

Bumping this. It’s time for a good overhaul.
