I have been an active player of Old School RuneScape and Runescape
since late 2007, and writing to respectfully to remove the pronouns. While I
appreciate your efforts, I believe this feature
detracts from the game's core experience, and promotes marginalized
hate for the following reasons:
-
Breaks Immersion - Pronouns disrupt the medieval fantasy aesthetic
of OSRS, introducing modern social concepts that feel out of place in
Gielinor's lore and setting. It immediately turned me off of the game
after I just came back. -
Unnecessary For Gameplay - Pronouns add no meaningful gameplay
value, detracting from core mechanics like quests, combat, and
skilling that define OSRS. I had 0 clue this was even a feature for
over a year. -
Community Division - The feature has sparked significant backlash
(e.g., player boycotts, forum posts), risking long-term player
retention and community cohesion. Every day this remains a feature,
you risk further losses. -
Misalignment with Nostalgia - OSRS thrives on its 2007-era
nostalgia; pronouns feel like a modern addition that clashes with the
game’s retro appeal. -
The August 2024 update introduced pronouns without a community
poll, contrary to Jagex’s tradition of polling major changes,
alienating players. -
Gender Dysphoria Concerns: Forcing pronoun selection may exacerbate
gender dysphoria for some players, creating discomfort by imposing
real-world identity issues into a fantasy escape. Gender Dysphoria is
not Transgenderism, which has clear biological markers. GD is
treatable without HRT / GAC, and affirming the delusions of GD only
exaggerates the condition.
Many players share similar concerns, as seen in community discussions
on forums and Reddit (r/2007scape). Removing this feature would align
with preserving the nostalgic and immersive qualities that make OSRS
unique. I urge you to consider player feedback and revert this change
to maintain the game’s core identity.
Sincerely,
