Suggesting Membership be based on days played and not a time period

quasi stag
#

not a game suggestion, but also it's not something they would do anyways

1.5x rate for every hour over the login timer

I just feel like this would better serve the customers

quasi stag
#

only serves the casual gamer dads with 3 jobs and 7 kids who can only play 15 minutes a day

Frankly it would be a nightmare accounting wise because of how revenue recognition works, not remotely worth the effort it takes

abstract hound
#

how would that be a nightmare lol. you pay and its +365 credits or plus 30 credits etc

On the back end, revenue is recognized for subscription services as the subscription is used. For a service like Runescape, they basically have to do it on a 'every day we earn 1/365 of the yearly subscription price' kind of way. If they changed it so they had to account for players only using days of subscription at a time, it would collapse.

Bankstanding would be so much more expensive then 😼

it would make people feel like they are missing out on memebership if they login, and would make people quit fast.

I'm pretty sure on mobile you can pay for one day at a time.

Not for or against this, but if they did this, wouldn't everyone be better off? Currently, a month of membership ticks down every day, whether you play or not. If buying 30 days actually got you 30 days of playtime, you'd be getting more than you do currently. It would run out faster for people playing more, but they're still getting more than they do now.

solar hamlet

No, because in practice it means raising prices for people playing every day.

Less money for Jagex so it will be a no

the price would go up massively for anyone playing the game a lot. this also completely kills peoples enjoyment of just hanging out in the game, at the GE, talking to your clan or strangers, you are incentivized to log out the second you are not actively doing anything, all activities in the game now become only about efficiency since you are paying actual money per minute of playtime. Utterly destroys the social and chill aspect that makes osrs great, absolutely terrible suggestion imo

#

but yeah this wont ever happen anyways

minor lodge

This is absolutely not realistic and the wrong place to post anyways.

If this were a thing, most people wouldn't even touch the game unless they felt like they were able to play for the whole day.

#

If you don't want to worry about wasting membership to burn out then just get a month of membership, or buy bonds and redeem them when you're up for playing for a couple weeks.

This is like suggesting more MTX be added instead, they have to get revenue somehow

This feels like a reaction to the recent ddosing

The price doesn’t need to go up honestly I don’t think it’s gonna raise the amount of active players or put more load on the servers. If anything it would bring in more money and players

The average player does not play more than 8 hours per day, and therefor someone on a monthly membership suddenly gets 3x or more out of the same subscription. This directly means Jagex just burns their money for no reason, it would never happen. Especially with them being owned by a VC firm

minor lodge

You are basically asking for cheaper membership and that’s not happening whether that’s a good thing or bad thing. Given recent record high player counts, Jagex isn’t really in a rush to attract more players.

I do feel like if your acc is pre EOC, you should get pre EOC rates ancestralhmm

I dont understand emojis, but i can answer questions 😂

Because that's not a loyal player, for one. That's someone who showed up 12 years ago, peaced out, then came back to ask for a pre-EOC rate for no good reason.

Would put a premium on all those alts people made years ago and never came back to tho 😂

#

Hell, you could even invest now by making like 30 alts and selling them off after rates go up again lmaooo

The only situation in which prior pricing should be used in the future is when someone has a continuous membership, because that's the price they signed up for, so it's the price they get. As soon as they stop paying/playing, that's when new prices take effect. Not sure why this is much of a conversation, anyway, because either idea is still bad.

Makes more sense than this suggestion tbh

No, there isn't. When you stop playing and unsubscribe, you are sacrificing your prior payment terms for whatever new ones are available upon the next time you subscribe.
