#Bank Presets

Presets would be amazing since I need different setups for farming runs, birdhouse runs, etc.
So I see this suggested from time to time, but I truly don't think people understand the negative impacts.
Firstly, this is a 20+ year old game that once you understand how ticks work, it's really not hard in the slightest. Inventory management, banking, all of this adds to the skill level of the game in general. Taking that away is taking away difficulty artificially.
Secondly, and most importantly is the economic impact. This will increase boss and loot efficiency 100% across the board for everyone, meaning less time at banks > more kills per hour > more items in the game > more inflation > more gold sinks > and possibly more GE tax.
I understand the sentiment, but a change like this has huge repercussions.
Please see any of the recent game jam projects for a bank preset implementation that doesn't do any of what your suggesting while still allowing the convenience
Also keep in mind that bank layouts exist and arent limited arbitarily
I know which project you're talking about, and I think that's fine personally if you actually have to pull the items out of your bank in the first place (not their idea initially since you can do it in the bank) but inventory loadouts are just a straight no from me personally
Fair enough but seems like you're just making things up
Mmmm not really. It's just logic right? If you're spending 80% less time at banks while bossing for example, that's more boss completions per hour, which means more items in the game. That's just following the logic. Anything that speeds up an activity will speed up anything that happens from that activity (e.g. drops)
Everyone already uses bank layouts. What you're saying means nothing.
I'm talking about being able to preset your inventory and equipment in 1-2 clicks, not layouts lmao
Layouts still take 10-11 + 28 clicks. What you countered with saying im wrong is a system where you can accomplish the same thing with approx. 35 less clicks. Like what are we doing gang lol
You know the project that I'm referring to and despite a solution being available that resolves all of the things you're talking about, you ignored it entirely. What are we saying.
Your concern is the time banking, not the number of clicks.
okay so what you're saying is it WON'T take less time. Yeah gotcha, I don't understand where your head is at but I wish you the best of luck champ 👍
🤦♂️
could work if retrieving items is only done like 2 per tick
like in the video up there from Mod Necro
I think the idea of a bank preset/layout is to reduce the number clicks the player has to do, but not decrease the time it takes to withdraw (and deposit?) items.
Since the concern is that if the time is decreased, it will ultimately be a buff for whatever you're doing (bossing, skilling, etc.)
So as long as it doesn't do that - which the linked video demonstrates - I think it should be fine.
Okay but the video shows a jmod who's clicking like it's the first time they've played the game. I just did a "test" on my own end and did it approx. 6x faster. (same number of clicks and same approximate mouse movement)
Upvoting this suggestion in particular for mentioning how fast clicking sometimes leads to not always grabbing the items.
Since that's something I've experienced, and thus a solution like a bank preset/layout that avoids this by reducing number of clicks (but not time of banking) would be desirable.
I agree with the sentiment where you'll get ghost clicks and it just slows the whole entire process down because of it, but not at the cost of making it easier across the board/faster
Also another point, I actually missed where the items come in 4 per tick (my bad) but still in general after testing, would be faster if you've played the game for more than 5 minutes tbh
That should be fine though, right?
Slower isn't an issue - only if it's faster is it an issue.
The video's probably just a demonstration of the system, since it was a gamejam.
While I do think a system for setting up an inventory would be helpful, straight up presets will have a significant negative impact on the game. Look at rs3, skilling is a joke especially for any production skills
I would be in favor of the game jam suggestion where you can get your PoH butler to gear you up over 10-20 seconds though. A slower but more reliable method that requires training and utilizing a skill
No, what im trying to say is the showcase is obviously slower to show the system, but I just compared myself doing my normal banking vs how its proposed, and it still came out to be like 10-15% faster with this new method
Fair enough - then simply make it slower by the required amount.
Which I think would probably still be reasonable. At least to the players who would prefer presets/layouts.
if they make it slower than how banking works now, I'm 10000% all for it. But my entire point from the beginning is that it's not slower. It's faster and not by a margin of error length with the 2-3 tests I did
Also its how it is because of the instant withdraw feedback. Not because they planned to make it faster
This is nice idea, though personally I wouldn't desire it because:
- It gives the POH more strength (now for banking? Which seems a bit odd)
- It drags banking away from banks (making them feel less worthwhile)
also everything it does could be implemented through the preset system anyway
I think it would be fine in this case because the majority of the time you'd still be banking as normal. The main difference would be gearing for specific content that you're likely about to use your PoH to tele to immediately after
From personal experience, I don't really care if it takes 30 seconds, the worst part about this game is interacting with the bank
Swapping content, especially on mobile, is literally the worst thing in the game
To me, there would be this unusual situation where you're at your bank, but then teleport to your POH to have your butler dress you with items... from your bank.
If anything, I'd prefer both presets in the bank and presets from your butler.
That way it handles both situations where you're at your bank, and where you're at your POH.
Hmm...yeah that would be a bit cumbersome. Specifically toa and tob would be a bit annoying too if you're in a group and need to leave to gear
What if you could either use the poh butler (which could also take from the costume room) or add in a new item that lets you summon your butler at a bank to the same effect?
It would be kinda cool to see people getting geared up and could create a space for new cosmetics like the Vyre maid suggestion
Could have the poh gear up mechanic around 40ish con as an early game goal, and around 60-70 you could create a bell or something in the workshop to summon your butler at a bank
I wouldn't mind that. Would be fun to see players' butlers spontaneously appear and act as a valet.
you do realize you can already set up an inventory for various things in less than 5 clicks and thats including clicking the x to leave bank. from what i read, you simply dont want this to be a thing because you just want to say 'skill issue' to whatever. adding presets wont drastically effect the game as you presume, yeah youll spend slightly less time at a bank but not so much that it nets you millions more gp per hr, you might get a handful of kills per hr more depending on how many kills per inventory you already get. for those that have to bank every 2-3 kills itll help more but for those that can last an hour it does nothing,
the main premise of this idea is for the bankstanding skills, it just also helps those who boss or pk.
you cant put presets being the issue for rs3 skills being easier, you fail to mention proteans, portable stations, and various other xp boosting items in the game. proteans literally make it to where you never have to bank and offer extremely more xp than most methods to skills.
skilling in rs3 is a joke due to the xp creep even slower skills like div have areas that give a significant amount of xp over standard methods and you can do these boosted methods the entire time. if you exclude proteans theres very few skills you actually need to bank for in rs3. those are the issues not presets. theyve made the exp gain so much easier the rates are way higher than osrs
i could go on and on about what makes rs3 skilling a joke but its certainly not presets fault. people just dont want to see any change even a slight bit that helps the entire playerbase because they thrive on 'being better' because they want to say things like banking are skill issues
I feel like presets would be welcome, especially for mobile.
If EHP / maxeff banking is really a big issue could always just set an integrity delay for it.
Perhaps (number of unique withdrawals + equips)//6 ticks, implying 6 clicks per tick, which with presets is about 60% the speed of people using zig zag bank tag layouts.
Even though it would be slower for me I’d still probably use it implemented this way.
I am not convinced a delay is required tbh. The charm in this game for me at least doesn’t come from struggling with banking and bank tag layouts trivialize banking anyways.
It’s kinda like the run orb you could always use the settings menu to toggle it if you insist lol.
this is a good idea, equipment and like cooked food/pots withdraw slower, makes the skilling end a bit more refined but doesnt hurt the feelings of those that say itll ruin the game
Agreed to a lot of the arguments for a system like this. It seems the two people arguing against this implementation, even if it isn't exactly as described by OP, is that it would slightly change something which would somehow break the game. By focusing so narrowly on a topic, they ignore wider ecosystems (why RS3 screwed the goat on skilling and xp gain), none of which is relevant to OSRS.
POH is powerful but that's kind of the point isn't it and of the whole construction skill - convenience? There doesn't need a bank there to make this work, hell make individual armor stands that you can outfit as a "preset" that you then use to equip yourself for something.
The same two people would likely have argued against the preset buttons to load your entire bag/inventory/equipped items into the bank because they're click hungry. Like we all don't have enough wrist problems from how much this game focuses on mouse manipulation and clicking
"but it's not the way I want it so let me find any reason whatsoever to be difficult and try to convince everyone of it with nonsense arguments"
The issue with rs3 style loadouts is obvious if you've played enough rs3 to use them. Many skills and activities in osrs have been balanced around interacting with the game's interface. It's why we don't have overhead hotkeys or an 'eat' hotkey. Banking is just an extension of that, and if we drastically increase the speed of banking it would unbalance a large variety of content. Any justifiable solution would need to have a significant enough delay where it's always slower than banking as it is now
Also, adding in construction requirements/interaction would help a feature like this feel like part of the world and not some bolted on gamified system. At the end of the day this is still a fantasy mmo
Your earlier argument was that skilling in RS3 is a joke because of presets and now you're saying it's balanced and is all part of a cohesive system
It's part of why it's a joke in that game (obviously the mtx and whatnot are even more egregious but that's a separate topic). No, I mean in osrs it's part of a cohesive system. Rs3 has significant balance issues and presets are part of the issue
What happened to the game jam thing that was basically this
it wouldnt drastically increase speed, like for instance with herblore i click 5 times total starting on clicking the bank then ending with the x to close, that doesnt take but a few tics. we have a bank all option why not add presets? its still more clicks than banking all or unequipping all.
presets are not an issue to the 'balancing issues' you claim rs3 has, those are completely separate things that cause the exp to be substantially faster. at this point youre arguing for the sake of arguing trying to find any topic you can, the relevance of what you have to so no longer applies to presets, your issue is with rs3 and you want to voice it anywhere possible. here is not the place
I'm not the only one arguing, and clearly quite a lot of the community shares a similar opinion including the devs based on their own pitches. Just saying "You're wrong, I'm right" is not a winning argument
Sounds good
you can certainly have an opinion on the matter but what you cannot do is continually bring rs3 into an osrs conversation, its clear you despise rs3 and its clear you dont want to have things that are on rs3 on osrs, which is not a valid reason. if you have other reasons that dont bring rs3 into the matter then we can properly discuss but if you wish to continue to show your distaste of rs3 in a place it doesnt belong then you should either head over to the rs3 discord or you can go to #general and talk about rs3 there all you want. as it does not pertain to this conversation it is not welcomed in the slightest. people like yourself are what gives the osrs community a bad reputation.
the others have also ceased arguing, as they know to simply dislike and move on, they offered their opinion and left, you continue to speak about an entirely different game. you compare apples to oranges which is why what you have said has been irrelevant
or he's just comparing to the closest thing thats similar which is when rs3 launched theres (big mistake). to which i agree with him on, bank tags/layouts are fine but presets should have no place in osrs
what is your reasoning on why theres no place for presets here? its a benefit to the entire community from pvm to pvp to skillers
well as i said, from my previous experience of when it was introduced to rs3, it takes less the 20 seconds to degear and regear again, this is a pure lazyness issue
it takes less than 20 seconds now, what difference does it make
if youre taking longer to gear then thats on you. presets can still help regardless, dont you want to be more efficent or do you just like to see others suffer because they cant bank as fast as you?
this isnt about suffering, its about lazyness
and lazyness shouldnt be a reason something comes into the game
if youre group bossing you dont want to wait on others to take ages to bank
youre playing a game which you sit at a desk or where ever all day, that is the epitome of laziness
@Ace you playing the wrong game if that is what you think lmao
Automating banking/interfaces like this just feels distinctly not OSRS to me. Continuing to process/skill in your inventory, sure that’s been a thing for as long as fletching afaik. But the bank? Nahhhh
i mean i understand but people can make loadouts, presets wouldnt be much more
Load outs are just fancy search bar, presets are literal macros
hopefully you dont use runelite
depositing all equipment or inventory is a macro by that definition
I’m just saying there is a very clear distinction
Also, they’re a macro by the literal definition but have extremely limited options
I can see why someone would be against presets, but I'm pretty ambivalent. They could be pretty useful.
then we can limit presets to skilling like bankstanding skills
Just add load outs to mobile/the main game and call it a day
just dont use it and call it a day
Welp, this has been a pointless conversation. I commented my opinion and obviously you 2 aren’t receptive to it
dont use something that you dont like or want and let others use
Please see my original comment on this thread.
i mean all you said was its not osrs 'to you' doesnt mean others wouldnt like it. you voiced your opinion which is welcomed, but of course you cant expect everybody to agree just as you disagree with me
Right, which is why I didn’t say it again in response. Literally talking in circles.
Exactly, if you dont like presets which is fine. You are not forced to use it and others can use it. Pretty simple concept.
There are several obvious logical fallacies in the responses to my comments, too which is why this is even more pointless
whats wrong or incorrect? because saying its a macro but saying the other macros within the game are different is a true fallacy
I never said they were “different” but there are inherent limitations on them that are incredibly different from being able to program your own macros. Also fallacies aren’t necessarily “wrong” but they certainly don’t contribute to the conversation
'very clear distinction' that means different. may not be the actual word different but saying the exact same thing.
fallacy definition: an incorrect or flawed piece of reasoning that may appear logically sound but is actually invalid or misleading
or a mistaken belief, especially one based on unsound argument
Ok sure I said there’s a distinction. Apples and oranges are both fruits, but there’s a clear distinction between them. Deposit-all and bank presets are both macros, but there’s a clear distinction between them. Also, even by your definition it doesn’t have to be wrong lmao
do you not understand what the word wrong means? similar words are 'incorrect' 'misleading' 'mistaken'
I’m not going to go dramatically off-topic and define the word “misleading” or get into what exactly makes a fallacy (either formal or informal), so I’ll simply restate my opinion
Automating banking/interfaces like this just feels distinctly not OSRS to me. Continuing to process/skill in your inventory, sure that’s been a thing for as long as fletching afaik. But the bank? Nahhhh. Load outs are just fancy search bar, presets are literal macros.
again automatic banking/interfaces we already have like depositing equipement or entire inventory. no different except now its pulling out a predetermined set of items
there is no 'formal or informal' there's the definition which you clearly don't understand for the word you try to use to seem smarter than you are.
Please stop pinging me.
He's just trying to force his opinion through by annoying everyone that disagrees with him until they stop bothering
Nah you can disagree all you want but there’s certain points where it’s no longer progressive just like you bringing up rs3 into an osrs conversation
I mean yet here you are again just boosting it more, I’m not rage bating but trying to have actual debates here but yall seem to get off topic quite easily.
The only skill involved is installing the bank tag layouts plugin on runelite. Having it be native would be nice.
this is quality of life stuff, the "skill" should be actually playing the game in PvM, PvP and game knowledge, not organising items
It doesn't even have to auto equip or take the items out, just proper layout tabs
Yeah there's no issue with this, would be nice on mobile
When you compare the official RuneScape client to RuneLite, it’s undeniable that we all rely heavily on QOL features that dramatically improve the player experience. Many of these plugins streamline tasks, provide additional information, or automate small processes to such an extent that some arguably blur the line between convenience and unfair advantage.
Every corner of the game (from skilling to quests, from PVM to PVP), benefits from plugins that give RL users significant advantages over the official client. Given that reality, I find it difficult to understand the argument that introducing bank presets would somehow undermine the spirit or authenticity of OSRS When viewed alongside the existing suite of RuneLite plugins, bank presets fit naturally within the same category of reasonable QoL improvements. In fact, certain plugins (such as the Chambers of Xeric boss scouter, clue scroll solvers or boss tile packs), save players far more time and effort than a preset system ever would.
The resistance to QOL updates often seems less about preserving the “Old School” ethos and more about maintaining a sense of exclusivity or superiority. Complaining about convenience features has long been part of RuneScape’s cultural identity, yet many of those same players still use RuneLite daily, benefiting from the very improvements they criticize. It’s a strange kind of purism: rejecting progress in principle while enjoying it in practice.
If we accept the reality that modern OSRS is already deeply intertwined with RuneLite’s QOL ecosystem, then adding bank presets is not a betrayal of the game’s values. It’s simply an acknowledgment of how the game is actually played today.
except your forgetting the fact that the official client is going to be getting pluggins once they open up the official pluggin hub, with many of the same/if not the same pluggins
the extent of the bank tab layout and gear layout pluggins (think thats what the other is called) is simply, u still have to click the items from yr bank to your inventory and then shift click to wear them, this idea is to remove that entirely and "auto" set up yr gear and inventory, which is over powered (u want examples u can look at this in rs3 already)
I get what you’re saying and I’m aware of the upcoming official plugin hub. That’s actually part of my point: the game is already evolving around QoL tools, both through RuneLite and now the official client.
As for the “auto setup” part, I don’t think it’s really more overpowered than what we already have. Plugins like the CoX scouter, tile markers, inventory helpers, or even the one that highlights optimal gear setups all save way more time or decision-making than a simple bank preset would. Presets don’t give new information or automate gameplay loops: they just streamline a repetitive setup process that most of us do hundreds of times anyway.
So if we already accept that plugins can massively improve efficiency and accessibility, I don’t see why bank presets suddenly cross some line of “too powerful.” The difference feels more cultural than practical. We’re already using features that push the same boundaries.
I do think we are heading towards this direction but I still do not want to see it yet in game because atleast without presets you still are doing 1-1 action and clicking
