Did you perhaps ignore the very clear timer that tells you exactly when the update hits? There is a limit to the amount of babysitting jagex should do.

Most people want to stay where they log out after a game update because it allows you to be more "ready" for the update. Geared up outside where a new boss is coming, in graceful with common quest items around a new quest start etc.
Hardcores especially should be very aware of the timer as with anything dangerous in tje game.
The solution is already in the game. A very visible timer that shows up well in advance. If you ignore that then that's on you imo.

Isn't that a bit like saying "Although the player could have avoided going into the callisto room to afk, if you are in that situation you should be saved by the crystal anyways". Both situations are entirely preventable and wholly due to your own choices. Jagex is not at fault in any way.
But you chose to be in a dangerous area upon the update. If it was out of your control i would understand your sentiment, but the case you mention is entirely the players choice. Its not an unexpected disconnection.
