#Key Remapping for the official client

Been asked at least twice on this channel before but since both threads were dead... it'd be really convenient if:

  • Allow remapping of F key row to number row as F keys can be configured to do special functions (volume up/down, play/pause, etc.) making it a royal pain in the ass to use them for OSRS, something akin to RuneLite's Key Remapping plugin would be super helpful
  • Allow remapping of arrow keys to WASD - all right-handed people rejoice

I strongly disagree with the idea of encouraging people to map to WASD this isn’t other games this is osrs, a very community driven game we should not discourage people from typing to one another. Also if your not using your middle mouse button to change your camera angle you are trolling

Seems fine, if runelite can already remap, i dont see why the maingame shouldnt also have this.
Havent used arrows keys for years, WASD has been my default every since that plugin came

id like shift walk under npcs, got reminded hard that it's menu entry swapper. the game has ctrl walk / run so i don't see why not

How would WASD prevent people from communicating? As others have pointed out, RuneLite allows you to do this and it doesn't impact the ability to communicate at all, if anything the fact that the chat is seemingly always active on the official client is just annoying. By that logic, it should be made impossible for people to turn off public chat as that too "discourages people from communicating". And worst case scenario, keep the current behavior as default but allow people to switch it if they want to.

Sure, but there are situations where I don't have a mouse f.x pseudo-afk, low intensity skilling on a laptop where WASD camera movement is simply more convenient that either a laptop touchpad or cramped half-key arrow-keys.

But frankly, I can live without the WASD, a much bigger issue is having everything bound to F-keys. For me at least it's kind of a dealbreaker and again, given that RuneLite already provides a way to re-map the F-keys, I don't see why the official client should not allow you to remap them to whatever you please. Seems like a rather arbitrary limitation.
