Repost from the discord suggestions section. Posting here based on Modmail response.

Continuing to use the outdated rainbow flag in your branding is not cute. The Pride flag has been updated for some time now to be more inclusive, and there’s been plenty of time to reflect that change. I noticed this last years and wanted to bring it up but gave it time.

You might argue that the newer flag is too complex for smaller formats, but that’s an easy problem to solve. A simple gradient can effectively represent the full spectrum of the updated flag. I actually created one for a past Pride campaign and would be happy to share it with you.

Visibility and representation matter and small details like this do make a difference.

I think the rainbow effectively gets the point across while being by far the most recognizable coloring to denote LGBT+ inclusivity

#

Pretty much every single server and company that have changed to pride colorings use this as it's understood to signal what it's intended to

We're talking about this one right

I'm definitely not the only one who thinks that this would be far less recognizable and much more confusing to 99% of the people who would look at it

Yea

Also it would just not scale very well on a logo as small as Discord's

#

With letters already on the logo

burnt heart

No I could probably do it

I'm sure it could be done, but being as recognized or as "good" looking would be a hard task

why does it matter? /gq

I genuinely think this might be a case of "doing too much"
I'm all for LGBT+ recognition and celebration and pride, but a logo already doing that but not being good enough of an effort is really painting it as more of an issue as it is

If I saw this I'd have no idea what I'm looking at

I don't think the average person even knows this exists

I sure didnt

Whew these comments are a prime example of why pride month exists. Not surprising.

Also I mentioned the use of a gradient instead of all the stripes of colors. It would actually be easier and more pleasant on the eyes honestly.

the full representation of colors in the pride flag matters because each one stands for a specific group within the LGBTQIA+ community. Including all colors like those for people of color and the trans community. Signaling true inclusivity, awareness, and support for everyone, not just the most visible groups

I’d keep this contained within the #1022203933600514138 thread. ModHmm
