#New Account Type: EZMan

Can we please get a new account type that mirrors Ironman/Group Ironman with a big change. Drop protection on most things. This sounds like bait, but it seriously could solve a lot of problems for people. Remove all ability to drop trade items to other players. They can still talk and interact with others, just totally separate from the economy as to not impact prices or anything. I can’t find any enjoyment from playing the game as a main with access to the GE and the only other option is Ironman mode. The RNG in the game is a bit too unforgiving in the later game for most reasonable people to want to commit to it. (Insert anecdotes about how many players quit because of CG, raids, going 3x drop rate). No leaderboards, it’s not for “prestige”, just genuinely for people who enjoy the concept of the game but can’t handle GE or unprotected RNG. I really want my friends to play this game but they want to play Ironman mode for the lack of GE, but don’t want the total randomness of RNG.

Who is this for: New/Returning players that want the satisfaction of self sufficiency without total randomness of drops.

What problem does this solve: Players who complain about changing in game systems for accounts that don’t want it. Imagine a world where the only people playing Ironman are the people who “want to go dry”. This saves the headache from the rest of the player base when trying to figure out new drop mechanics. Keep it original, just allow a new account that keeps the changes in a vacuum.

To be clear, I would 100% convert my group iron account with 2000 total level to this new account type to play with my friends. There is so much room to make this game feel more feasible for players who see 5000 hours of play time and get overwhelmed. I think this would be a great step in the right direction to get more players interacting with Old School RuneScape.

TLDR: We need a new account type that has universal drop protection, no GE access, and no drop trading.

I've heard Project Zanaris is doing great work. Maybe pray they implement something like this when it releases.

Project Zanaris isn’t really a reasonable replacement for this. That project sounds good for side modes that aren’t your entire accounts progression. No one wants their entire progression locked to a “private server”.

If a jmod does read this, the laugh emotes are pretty indicative of why a lot of people end up saying no to this game. I have a lot of hours already and can look over it, but anecdotally I know a lot of people who would give you subscription money to play this mode. Getting laughed out of any room for asking for content we want that suites us is a huge barrier for new people that want to interact with the community.

Reaching the conclusion of “don’t play RuneScape” isn’t really what I imagine as a healthy end.

Non ironman mode already has drop protection for most content. It's just you buying it.

# empty lance Non ironman mode already has drop protection for most content. It's just you buy...

To reiterate, if you are actively playing this game, this mode is probably not for you. The Grand Exchange is not for everyone. Buying the item isn’t the same as getting it. The people who play this don’t want a GE, they want the self sufficiency and satisfaction. Implementing this in a more natural immersive way rather than “play a main and buy the item” is what I’m aiming for here. I’ve never even played a main account because I know having access to a GE would kill all of my motivation to play.

I would suggest you wait for project zanaris or the next leagues event. Those will be more your speed.

What about a unique locked account. You can use the GE to buy supplies (maybe if you have the level to farm them)

But you can only buy uniques once you have the drop rate kc.

I don't think dry protection as in it dropping automatically once you hit a certain kc will ever be a thing, unless they make it a thing for all accounts.

An account type where you can buy from the GE, but only once you have the required skills to make the supplies, or for Uniques only once you have the KC of the drop rate would not interfere with the economy at all.

It would solve other problems later game irons have such as having to farm for supplies. Once you get 82 fishing, you can buy raw anglers.

Yeah you'd be better off in project Zanaris land

Sorry that lots of folks seem to just be dismissing you instead of trying to discuss what a practical solution might be.

I don't think the response to anyone going 3x dry or more at cg should be ironman is not for you.

It’s all good, I knew what would happen if I posted, but I really want to see this game be at a point that my friends who don’t play will actually pick it up.

Funnily enough that is exactly what got my group mate to quit. He just mentally is checked out knowing that he could be stuck at CG for 100s of hours.

Ironman mode is legitimately so much fun to experience this game. I love it! But it more often than not feels like the game is trying to convince me to quit instead of keep playing. Sometimes I look at grinds and it’s just an immediate “no” lol. I appreciate your candidness and it helps me feel less like I’m yelling into an empty room.

And like the other people said, if you want dry protection, you can play Project Zanaris

#

I think the only way this would ever be acceptable in the main game, is if you were completely removed from everyone else, could not team up with others, and if you drop your items/are pked or whatever, your items are just deleted so you cant affect the market with your higher droprates

Then you can just play iron...

You wouldn’t right? I have friends with main and iron accounts I would never be able to see. I don’t want their characters literally separated from everyone, just their impact on items. I also don’t want it to be entirely dependent on some third party to moderate the game. It’s literally just Ironman mode with an extra step that is feasible for Jagex to oversee while increasing player counts and revenue.

bright trellis
#

Well how do you decide what your dry protection is? 2x dry? 5x dry?

#

Its not as simple as you say, and its not how the game works, they would need to make unique code specifically for the players that want to be like you, for every unique item in the game

spiral sonnet
#

Wonderful question that I don’t have a bright line for. That would be for the game designers to figure out what works best. And I don’t know the engine or the backend of osrs at all so I can’t really speak to that. Maybe it’s hard maybe it’s not. Maybe they can rollover code used from leagues drop mechanics. I don’t know how they would/could do it as I don’t work there as a developer.

I’m merely discussing the idea of a solution. Direct implementation strategy would come down to Jagex and what their developers think can work.

gilded swan
#

So you want Gagek to make a whole game mode just for irons who are unhappy when they go dry?
The solution is literally don't play an iron lol
Solution 2 is project zanaris where you can adjust drop rates

spiral sonnet

why would you implement drop protection and then not apply it to mains

fast hare
gilded swan

implementing drop protection for irons is a terrible idea lol

the whole point of a restricted game mode is that it gives you a set of restrictions

then play it on a seperate server (zanaris)

step back a moment, why do you think the drop protection you're asking for isn't already in the game?

Because it’s not? The GE serving as an artificial solution has no solvency on the previously stated problems/scenario.

Isnt there a project zanaris coming?

Damn… this is still going

#

At best, this baby mode should be super heavily restricted so you cannot participate in any team based content in addition to all previously mentioned restrictions

#

Which at that point, why even bother playing a mmo

Osrs is cool. Lots of content, love the training and pipelines. It’s a really well developed game with lots of content promised in the future. That’s a lot more than most games nowadays.

Honestly I don’t really do anything outside of my iron group members, but I like seeing people run around and having random conversations with people.

I feel like this would break the economy if you drop traded your pity loot to your main

#

You could probably achieve the same sort of feel by just playing a snowflake main. Can't use the GE unless you hit drop rate w/o getting the item, then you effectively "earn" the right to buy it

You're gonna love Project Zanaris!

Another way to put it is

I have 0 self restraint and I need the game to stop me from making decisions that I dont like, or I will do them

I get why you’re suggesting this, and certain endgame skilling things could use a facelift, but the honest truth is that you have 2 good options

  1. project zanaris
  2. play a main and use the gp from boss drops to get the damn thing when you reach whatever grinding threshold you have, try to be self-sufficient for the fun of it
solemn cairn
#

I think it's reasonable to make this kind of suggestion. Some players like most of OSRS and the self-sufficiency aspect of Ironman mode, but dislike the RNG aspect. The suggestion is simply asking if it's possible to have dry protection.

I think such an aspect should not work for just one particular game mode, but for all game modes if introduced. Otherwise you introduce an aspect that could be desirable for a game mode but not accessible in that game mode.

For example: I'd be interested in playing a main account with dry protection. I don't see why it should be forbidden from it.

However, I'm guessing the suggestion wouldn't be popular. Players tend to want the game to retain how its RNG works; partly for nostalgia reasons, partly for economy reasons, I think.

But even if it is unpopular as a main feature for all game modes, I would absolutely support this as a feature in Project Zanaris. I believe PZ should provide features that help players customise the game to their liking. And I think dry protection is a fairly reasonable feature to want from it.

I'm in favor of a high 3x dry protection for very specific drops (ie: dwh but not megarares).

#

But not in favor of restricting that benefit only for ironman

spiral sonnet
#

Once again, NOT AN IRONMAN. This is an entirely different account type.

north trail
#

Yeah, not in favor of it being for a specific game mode

spiral sonnet
#

Why?

north trail
#

Because being 3x dry isn't a special problem. Lots of games have pity drop system because of how bad it is to go more than 3x or 5x "dry"

#

For reference, it's 5% chance to be 3x dry and under 2% to be 4x dry

#

But for any game with a player base, that is a sizeable portion getting a really bad experience, especially if the base chance is already low

pure gulch
#

RS3 might be the game for you man!

gilded swan
#

Just get the drop and quit expecting gagek to cater to you since you don’t wanna grind

distant pecan
#

Dry protection should really only apply to untradables and progression items like kq head and vork head

#

The game is designed for you to grind. If you play ironman mode you should expect to grind and go dry

#

If you want that 'dry protection' mechanic, you're going to need to control your self and just use the GE only when you hit drop rate

#

Otherwise just play a main and go for collection logs if you really want to

spiral sonnet
#

Guys, to be clear, I am NOT looking for alternate ways to accomplish "something like this" in the current game here. Simply giving a suggestion for a way I think the game could improve. I understand Zanaris, Leagues, and just not using the GE. I do not find those satisfactory as a solution and will not be using them to solve this problem.

plucky flame
#

I do think a scaling drop rate for your first drop once you’re over 2-3x rate would have minimal effects on prices but make the end of the curve less of a nightmare, but that’s a different discussion entirely
