#Freeze time nerf to Ice Barrage

Why not give it counterplay instead of introducing even more wilderness-only-niche-mechanics where nobody knows whats really going on?

twin coral
#

deal, just something fight back, maybe a pair of boots that prevents you from being frozen, flame boots, no stats on them, just freeze prevention specifically from ice spells

#

pretty much everytime i try to do anything in the wildy, an ice mage ruins my fun by locking me in place until i die, very annoying when i can move 3 steps per 20 seconds and take massive hits while doing so, atleast entangle doesn't do much damage while it binds

potion of warmth

twin coral
#

thats not a bad idea

viral bear
#

make ice barrages go away 2x as fast if you have it on, holds for 2 minutes per sip.

#

make it a wildy-boss drop so its even wildy themed

twin coral
#

it could be made with like 85 herb or so or dropped in bulk in wildy from bosses

#

can make it an expensive one, everybody will buy that

Good ideas in here.

I also dont think its healthy to make anti-pk/pvmers that much stronger than pkers...

#

I just dont think drastically changing the entire wilderness environment because "wah I cant deal with ice barrage" is a good way to go about it

twin coral
#

dw, pk and people who do not want to fight that pker will always have the same kit, its kinda how it works with a blanket nerf to the skill

#

if you are serious about pking, don't rely on ice barrage, risk more and bring powerful expensive gear to give you an edge

strange quarry
#

What do you mean by dont rely on ice barrage? How can you pk someone who can either escape from any single freeze, or just run the whole time?

#

You don't sound like you know anything about pking

I like to engage with the belief that the OP has some kind of idea that makes sense, until proven wrong

#

Sometimes thats immediate

unkempt spruce
#

Pkers can use it to hold u in place so u cant just run to 30 line with a ton of brews, pvmers can use it to freezelog and get a free escape, i've been on both sides of the coin and its pretty balanced imo

I would like to see a freeze timer nerf for multi only. Getting frozen for ages in multi is just dumb. And we have so many wildy-exclusive rules that at this point this extra one wont hurt either.

My issue isn't that it's too strong. There's just no good counter to it. The best we have right now is mithril/adamant seeds.

Many years ago, before EOC came out, there was a mage armor called Ganodermic. It had the highest magic defense in the game. Even better than karils and fortified masori.

If a similar armor existed in OSRS, it could be used to make ice barrage splash frequently, but would leave you more vulnerable to ranged/melee attacks.

#

I honestly really miss Ganodermic. It had a lot of cool PVM uses too. Like fighting the corporeal beast from a distance and tanking it's magic attacks.

twin coral
#

gano was an excellent counter to ice magic, i'd love to see it personally (i don't like armors that degrade but that one was worth it)

#

pkers will need godlike rng and an insane setup to even have a chance of killing u in ur cheap dhide dinhs 9 brews setup, and u still need to do a long ass tank sesh because u cant simply freezelog

#

then again i dont think u would be suggesting this in the first place if u knew freezelogging was a thing (no offense but just seems like it)

Plenty of those around boss entrances - hell, the cave entrance itself blocks line of sight

#

I've frozen people in front of calv/artio cave and just ran behind the cave at artio, and usually behind the fence or grave at calv

timber bear
#

Yep. It's good in some places. Others not so much. I actually know a much a much easier to get away at calv. You should try it.

unkempt spruce
#

U could argue its not a fun mechanic but thats a different conversation, i personally prefer quick escapes like that even if it means pvmers can use it against me when im pking

timber bear
#

If you get attacked at one of the 3 solo wildy bosses, they almost always teleblock you first. That gives you a few seconds to run out of the cave before you can be frozen.

As soon as you exit the cave, immediately reenter, and then exit again. And log out. Works almost every time.

unkempt spruce
#

Yeah juking them out is definitely viable

#

Annoys the hell out of me when im pking when im still fine with freezelogs kek

No

even with the "risk" wildy is way to rewarding imo making it easier to get out of situations would be just extra

twin coral
#

i just had an even better idea, how about a spell on the lunar spellbook that removes the freeze effect? its fitting since lunar is a support book and has no offensive spells of it's own

#

it could cost a few blood and fire runes

#

call it warmth, problem solved, put a bow on it and ship it off (only work on freeze tho, not entangle

#

reason being, people spam ice magic, nobody spams entangle, you have to litterally go on and choose it per cast, which does no damage, has a higher chance to splash and interrupts other offensive spells

#

but the only people using this would be people who are not looking to pvp in the first place cuz lunar has no good way to freeze people much either

tired mesa
twin coral
#

simply put, entange splashes more and does very little damage, it sees a significant less amount of use where as ice magic has a 95% useage rate if not higher (and with good reason)

#

its about time a counter was added

#

all powerful tricks require a counter for balance

The balance is 1b in gear, duh!!!

trim island
#

whats the point of magic def gear then lol

gaunt gale
#

Of course, the level requirement is different as well

viral knot
gaunt gale
#

But ultimately itd be nice to have a counter of a sort to freeze spells

trim island
#

honestly? its so much easier to get gap and survive than it is to die

#

if you have supplies theres almost no excuse, depending on the skill level of pker youre up against

viral knot
#

i feel like ice barrage is quite balanced esp once you consider there's no tbing

#

if you make it to level 30 or a lever you're gone

trim island
#

I would argue that TB + snare is way worse lol

#

I bet most pkers would agree

gaunt gale
#

Are we talking 1v1 rn? Lol

trim island
#

if you get caught in multi by a clan it doesnt matter what the fuck youre hit with lol

twin coral

#

those are the real shitter pkers

#

sorry to say man

#

the lunar unfreeze idea is honestly dumb (and im saying this as the "prey") because u would have to run all the way to the ditch instead of simply freezelogging

unkempt spruce
gaunt gale
#

If its 2v1 or more. You usually have 1 person freezing, another using range/tb, and both having a melee switch

unkempt spruce
#

i feel like its better for the pvmer to have a pker autocast barrage instead of switching it up

#

ohh yeah in multi sure

gaunt gale
#

Most wildy content is in multi

unkempt spruce
#

also in multi i genuinely agree that freeze timers could use a nerf, but then again i dont mind that they're still 20s

gaunt gale
#

Other than spindel/revs

unkempt spruce
#

but i see what u mean though

#

maybe im biased because i have played for both teams so to speak, but i've never had a problem with wildy stuff and just went "it do be like dat"

gaunt gale
#

Like freezing, i feel like should have a counter spell or something that isnt based in specific gear. Because then you always wear that specific gear because of how strong freeze spells are and you cant really change what you wear to adjust to the actual content that you're doing.

unkempt spruce
#

but at the same time, those exact proposals make anyone already capable of escaping pretty much unkillable

#

like competent people can already easily escape (in singles), so my mentality is more like "learn the basics of escaping instead of asking for escape-related buffs that gigabuff anyone who is already competent"

#

this only goes for singles btw, i dont feel strongly about multi stuff even though dying in a 3v10 sucks ass

gaunt gale
unkempt spruce
#

basically u can only die if a gigamaxer in crystal bowfa etc shows up

unkempt spruce
#

kind of a tangent but i remember someone on reddit saying u need millions in freeze gear to have a chance at escaping, and "surprisingly" it was upvoted too

#

not to blame anyone but i feel like these proposals often only understand the surface layer, not the implications, so that only makes the content fun for people who didnt bother to learn the basic stuff in the first place

#

and not to go too off-topic but its the same thing in competitive games where low ranks think a character is too good or bad, but then buffing/nerfing said character would make them giga op or completely useless in "real" ranks

gaunt gale
# unkempt spruce not sure if im following? u are doing calvarion for example, u bring dhide, then...

Basically, say for calv instead of wearing base melee gear or something to make more use of ursine. You're stuck with wearing blk d hide because you already know that if a pker comes, he's using freeze spells. And thats the same for any and all content in the wild. Theres nothing really to do when you're frozen for 20 seconds. The seeds are essentially useless unless you're anti pking.

And i understand you're point about competitions and larpers wanting to nerf stuff. But i like i said i think 1v1 is a seperate argument from multi.

When someone is wanting to learn how to pk, whats usually the suggestion given for learning? Go with a group. Ok so if your group consists of 3 people, and a massive clan spawns. If they split up between the 3 of you, you have absolutely no chance of escaping if you get frozen. 20 seconds is far too long, no matter how many brews and karams you. Usually the tip is to spam click a restore and hope that you dont get smited at that point.

Ive suggested before that multi should be changed to singles++, so that a max of 3 people can pile you at once. But even these sorts of suggestions get a huge no from people who do this kind of stuff regularly, which quite literally requires 0 skill. You point, you click. You jump, you kill. But then we're stuck in this cycle that most people hate entering the wild lol. You even see casuals claiming that wildy clue scrolls need to go kekw

unkempt spruce
#

or ferox with another noob wanting to learn, u just 1v1 each other and slowly get better (i did that too with a friend way back)

#

so yeah i see the issue with getting told to go with a group and getting 5v20'd, but at the same time there are so many options too
