#Simple method for reigniting Agility as a fun “passive” Skill

As I commented on a post over on Reddit, the solution to fixing Agility as a Skill is simple.

Basically 3-10x the amount of shortcuts around the entire map. Craft some shortcuts as micro agility courses. Literally like 6-12 seconds to complete as you pass through and they should always grant a small ammount of xp.

Turn agility back into a completely passive skill that you’re constantly training as you go about your day moving from one place/activity to another.

Think of something like the Moss Giants in the Varrock Sewers. There should be like 5 sub lvl 20 shortcuts there that all string together to create an allusion of a course that low levels can run back and forth from while training on Mossys while being able to meaningfully bring their loot back to the bank without teleporting all the time.

That’s just one example but the solution to Agility have been right in front of us the whole time.

Edit: easy solution for 1 clicking xp is to include diminishing xp from repeat use if used more then x amount of times inside a 30 second window. Extreme is if used more then 6 times within 20 seconds you just fail the shortcut every time & put on a cool down.
You know something in that vein.

I think all shortcuts should give some amount of agility xp. Obviously, nowhere near as much as you get from running courses. But something.

Several runecrafting altars have shortcuts that can be used to get there faster. But none of them give xp. That's wasteful for people who are running back and forth to them hundreds of times per day.

I think more shortcuts and token xp is fine but definitely by no means should it replace actually training

#

It shouldn’t make the skill actually passive to level up

Lvl required = xp gained

#

They should also use/require maybe 5/10/15 run energy

That would defeat half the purpose of shortcuts if they used run energy

I'm all for shortcuts giving experience but the reason they don't is because players would just sit there and grind that one shortcut forever. Which is why most the one-click shortcuts either give miniscule amounts of xp, or none at all.

#

Perhaps adding a cooldown where you can get a chunk of XP once a day from each shortcut might be more interesting

There are multiple solutions:

  1. If you give each shortcut XP which is about the same as a course shortcut per level (without the bonus XP at end of course), I wonder what the XP difference between running a shortcut back & forth vs running a course would be. If it's like 3-5x worse that seems just fine
#
  1. IMO a cool down for bonus XP would work better if it's like 30-60 seconds long rather than a day. That'd work great for like a runecrafting shortcut, esp if you're teleporting back. Said XP multiplier shouldn't make such an obstacle more than 2x an average agility course obstacle
  2. Just give them all a non-zero but small amount of XP
#

Including also like quest obstacles like those in Tiranwwyn

id be alright if they increase xp for shortcut but can only get it once a minute for that 1

#

bc you just sit in 1 spot and tap mouse no need to move it

they just got botted to hell brother

#

its why they dont exist anymore

#

they got removed for that reason, so they need a cooldown so it cant happen again

if u want to run to bunch of shortcuts and get rates close to rooftops thats fine but no way should u be able to just tap mouse and get 1/2 the rate

No necessarily. For one, you don’t have to take a shortcut. It’s a bonus not a detriment. And two most shortcuts would be one or two clicks anyway, you’re already clicking on the ground to walk so what’s the effort in clicking a shortcut tile anyway.

I’d imagine most of them would flow unobtrusively in their interaction. You’re already running, then you click on the crate you jump on it then onto a wall and over & you’re done. Off you keep going towards your destination.

would it not be easier than to just complete rooftops instead why go to all that bother teleporting around?

Especially for lower level accounts/if you aren’t stammed it sounds like a bit negative compared to not costing energy

Great point @left nacelle

but IMO it'd be kinda awful for the primary purpose of shortcuts which is to make you get places faster

#

Several shortcuts got sped up last year so they're faster, but some were only 1 or 2 ticks faster than walking around (& some were slower) in that idyll video

#

now imagine if some of them were 1 tick faster & drained 5% energy. just the worst

#

IMO you should keep gaining energy at the standard rate while in a shortcut animation (whereas right now it pauses the regeneration timer)

Just want to bump this to complement the recent agility shortcut proposal post that has been going off lately ✊🏼

You know, IIRC, this was actually kind of how the Yanille Dungeon was designed.
