Redwood Bow would be the new Magic Bow. This means that for bows to arrows:

Regular - Bronze
Oak - Iron
Willow - Steel
Maple - Mithril
Yew - Adamant
Magic - Rune
Redwood - Amethyst

Possible crossbow adjustments for stock wood:

Bronze/Blurite - Regular
Iron - Oak
Steel - Willow
Mithril - Maple
Adamant - Yew
Rune - Magic
Dragon - Redwood

A larger revamp of levels/stats and white/black bows/cbows would be ideal. But this suggestion is just a basic progression change.

Would it be any better than current magic shortbow, or do you just want to make it harder to get?

#

What would be the fletching level requirements?

#

Why is this a positive change?

#

If it's better than MSB, why should a fletchable bow from a 500 gp log be better than current alternatives?

#

If it's not better than the tier of stuff above a magic shortbow, then why does it need to exist in the first place?

It's to streamline the progression a bit. Ranged progression is all over the place. How come the first bow gets two tiers of arrows but the first cbow gets 1 tier? Why are teak and mahogany randomly shoved in?

We don't need another higher tier of wood bow. What this does is line up bows/cbows with normal metal and wood progression by adding in Redwood.

Crossbows are useless aside from bolt effects so the crossbows below adamant are kinda irrelevant

#

The value difference between magic and redwood logs is also a factor to be considered

wary barn
#

In regards to cbows, it's more the Fletching formulas

slate fjord

Not even ironmen are fletching crossbows idk why this would matter.

wary barn
#

That's not a valid argument.

Agree with @slate fjord about the questions. Just "this would be logical" is not a good enough reason. What would the effects on the game be of a redwood bow be?

#

A redwood bow could perhaps be a logical progression point for mid game/irons, but why is that needed? At some point players swap from Skilling weps -> PvM ones. Sunlight hunter crossbow filled some of the niche. What about alch prices & how redwood logs are cheaper / more AFK than magic?

Redwood replaces Magic at the same levels. So there'd be level adjustment. Most likely Oak would move down and everything else after too

#

And it's not a power creep

#

This isn't in depth. Like the other thread, it's testing the waters

gusty basin
#

O so then just the woodcutting requirements for an iron to obtain the equivalent magic shortbow go up?

#

And the alch price thing is still a problem

wary barn
#

Yeah basically the stats at the Ranged level aren't supposed to change so that needs consideration, but it's just like wood reqs for Fletching and this Ranged changes.

#

Good point about alch

IMO using redwood logs as a component combined with something from PvM (or generally requiring money/luck to obtain) to make a bow or crossbow could be a cool new mid game somewhere wep

wary barn
#

It's for streamlining. Just logic, as you said.

#

Then again it's hard to do anything logical with Ranged

Not all types of logs need to be used for making weapons just like not all ores/bars are used to smith armor/weapons. Notice there are no silver platebodies?

I would be okay with it being used to make a COMPOSITE bow, but I don’t think there’s a need for a redwood bow.

Like the ability to combine multiple woods would be fine with me. Heck maybe even make the sword bows that were teased in that one quest.

Not everything needs to be able to be created or made into x just because it makes sense. Sometimes being unable to do that adds value, look at black and white armour, which is used even though it is such low tier.

The point isn't to add redwood. The point is to make progression consistent by using redwood.

tepid sun
#

i mean consistency is nice but not if it comes at the cost of some weird consequences which this does imo

nova drum

I think redwood is hideously underutilized as a resource, but the answer is more high-level uses like with Urium Shades, not shoving bow progression down a bit for minor consistency reasons

overall this sounds like a waste of dev time to be quite honest

So is redwood just a reskinned magic bow in this suggestion? I really don’t understand the need or the suggestion.
