i'm confused what you're suggesting. are you talking about when jagex would fix the prices of items and you could only go like +-10%?

#

.
it sounds like you are. the only reason they implemented that was because they removed free trade, it was really bad for the game and no one would want it back

proper river
#

@strange cargo No that is not what I mean. Most exchanges allow for a stop loss and take profit order when you sell something. This means that you can predetermine how much risk you're willing to take on.

rugged meadow
#

i've merched quite a bit and don't understand what you're asking for haha

proper river
#

I'm not able to provide a picture but it is pretty straight forward

#

So you bought something from the exchange for 1m gp, and you are hoping the price goes up. Lets say I want to make 1.3m gp, I will set my take profit at 105 gp. However I don't want to lose a lot of money, so when the price dips under 900k. I want to sell it. so I also place a 'stop loss' to limit my risk.

#

@rugged meadow Is that a better example?

rugged meadow
#

so you want to make a sell offer that sells at either 1.3m or 900k

proper river
#

yes

#

that is pretty common in most markets

rugged meadow
#

that sounds way too hard to implement and unlikely to ever come to the game, but gl haha

#

yeah not video game AH's though

proper river
#

honestly, every real world exhange has this

rugged meadow
#

just pick better items to merch

proper river
#

I've made over 700m

rugged meadow
#

but fr i don't see it happening with the limitations of the game, and have no idea how you would even do that as a UI

proper river
#

so not to worried about that

rugged meadow
#

didn't ask

proper river
#

but then also with a lower bound

#

we already have some form of limit orders in place

glossy hill
#

“The price” on the GE responds pretty slowly and even if you use a more active price may not be very reliable for overall supply/demand

rugged meadow
#

yeah i think rs runs more off that than how the tracking sites work tbh

#

it would probably be tied with it, and thus, useless

glossy hill
#

At best it sounds like you’re taking out the risk/difficulty of merching and I don’t think it would work well in the current system

worthy condor
#

Not having stop loss/take profit doesn't make it more skillful, just means you need to be online 24/7

rugged meadow
#

it's not similar at all

proper river
#

for more volatile commodities, I close all positions over night.

#

way to much risk

#

with stop losses and take profits, SL and TP, it is much easier to manage positions

#

and to precalculate the amount of risk one is willing to take

rugged meadow
#

monkey's paw: your wish is granted, but ge tax is tripled

proper river
#

It also serves as a teacher for more responsible trading as this is what most trades also do in real life

proper river
rugged meadow
#

😭

proper river
#

tax is quite low

rugged meadow
#

looking at img you posted a while ago, you had made 360m and paid 120m in tax

#

i'm not sure lmao

proper river
#

I switch computers all the time

#

and reset my tracker

rugged meadow
#

that's also a very standard number to see

proper river
#

I don't know the exact number, but my account is funded by trading. that is fore sure

#

I'm just hoping for this major and important qol update for merchers

rugged meadow
#

anyway, idk, i don't have anything to add other than i think there is a 0% chance of it being added to the game, but gl

proper river
#

You already pointed that out, but thank you again. I'm raising the issue in the hope it will.

rugged meadow
#

might be helpful if you tried to make an example of ui and how it could fit in because it would seem really cluttered

#

just sayin

proper river
#

That is a good idea

#

However, I'm not an expert ui/ux designer

#

And I'm unable to post pictures here

#

I can ask ai to make it for me haha

strange cargo
# proper river yes

Still confused how that works.

Say you put an item up for 50-100k.

If i put a buy offer for 75k, will you sell the item for me to 75k?

#

If the answer is yes, what's stopping me from putting in 10 seperate offers each 10k higher, so I'd put a buy order for 10k, then 20k, then 30, so that i buy it for whatever the lowest you're willing to sell for is

proper river
#

It would probably need to be implemented like this (generated by chatgpt):
Stop loss and take profit orders should not rely on the lagging "market price" displayed by the GE, as this could be outdated and does not reflect the current trading conditions. Instead, these orders should be triggered based on the current highest bid (for stop loss) or lowest ask (for take profit), which represent real-time trading conditions.

Stop Loss Trigger: Activated when the highest bid (the maximum price a buyer is willing to pay) falls to or below the specified stop loss price.
Take Profit Trigger: Activated when the lowest ask (the minimum price a seller is willing to accept) reaches or exceeds the specified take profit price.

proper river
#

It should be based on the highest buy and sell, ask and bid

gilded onyx
#

wouldn't work in the way the GE currently works and the game doesn't really need features to make merching/flipping easier

proper river
#

This is exactly how the ge currently works

#

under the hood limit orders and spot orders are already implemented

proper river
gilded onyx
#

yeah safer = easier

proper river
#

that is not true sorry

gilded onyx
#

it literally is sorry

proper river
#

trust me

#

it is not

gilded onyx
#

no

proper river
#

Have you ever used stop losses and take profits?

strange cargo
proper river
#

TLDR; you can set predetermined prices at which you sell your commodity. In this way you can know how much you are going to lose/gain. (There still are some cases where you lose more or gain more depending on demand and supply)

#

That's it

#

The GE already has a matching engine that is very similar to most other exchanges, this feature just hasn't been added.

strong ether
#

Can I put a buy offer for your stop loss to then flip it for a profit?

proper river
#

that is normal

#

other wise the stop loss doesn't get triggered

strong ether
#

I'm struggling to understand how this works as well, the system the way it works right now already suffices and does exactly what you want, if you put your item for a stop loss price

proper river
strong ether
#

how will you ever sell your item for a 'current value' if you keep getting undercut

proper river
#

So the thing is that is normal for a market, that is also what we're doing at the moment. Lest take blood runes. The higest instasell is 236 the instabuy is 242. You overcut for 237 to get the order in fast, you undercut for 241 to sell it fast. The whole point of markets is being more competitive in price or time.

strong ether
#

blood runes are selling for 308 average, and bottoming at 300, i will assume if you have a stop loss there's no need for me to put a buy offer for higher than 300

proper river
#

It was just an example with fictional prices

waxen trout
#

The wiki already links to a live ge price tracker. Isn't that enough?
Also yeah the moment there are scripts automating these things those scripts can be exploited.

proper river
#

it is not a script guys

#

at the moment we already have take profit implemented

#

The only thing that needs happening is a stop loss

strong ether
#

what logistical functionality needs to be added, are you able to explain that part?

proper river
#

it can be a checkmark, with stop loss

#

and you fill in an extra price

#

so that if the instabuy falls below it, you sell immediately

#

from now on I'm using instabuy and instasell as most sites use those terms

waxen trout
#

How would "stop hunters" effect the game economy?

proper river
#

with instabuy meaning; the price at which someone is willing to sell a commodity. and instasell the price at which someone is willing to buy a commodity. (Yes this is confusing)

#

It would add more liquidity I presume. Meaning that traders would be more comfortable trading overnight, or over longer periods of time, which translates to more items to buy or sell.

#

@waxen trout

strong ether
#

they will get triggered during slow quantities, the big spikes you see in graphs where all of a sudden someone didn't realise there was an actual sell offer for 1 gp

#

like there's a spike where a blood rune was sold for 271

proper river
#

the price at which you are willing to sell will be still the price set by you. So it wouldn't sell for less than the price you set.

strong ether
#

it would trigger every stop loss possibly out there, all insta selling for way lower than is the average, even worse than the bottom

#

so if the price has dipped beyond your stop loss , the stop loss doesn't work?

proper river
#

well, the order will be set at that price point. So yes it would work, but it will probably not sell. only if the price rises again to that point.

#

Those cases exist in stock/crypto exchanges

strong ether
#

an update comes out that makes twisted bow useless and now sells for 100k, your stop loss was at 1 billion, but didn't sell, you now lost 1 billion

proper river
#

yes

#

if there wasn't someone willing to sell to you

#

so if the price suddenly dropped from 1b to 100k with no buyers willing to buy at your price point then yes, you lost your money.

#

That is not a probable scenario, but it could happen

waxen trout
strong ether
#

instead of putting a single price, you put 2 different prices and its up to the other party whichever gets chosen

proper river
#

yeah this is really an edge case

strange cargo
#

Do rs prcies generally fluctuate enough for a stop loss to make sense to use?

waxen trout
#

This was another thing I was wondering about. What kind of items are we talking about?

strange cargo
#

And also yes, this seems like it would lead to abuse. If you know that people have stop loss set to 50% price, then prople would intentionally tanl the ge price to trigger it

strong ether
#

prices seem more likely to go down in these scenarios

strong ether
#

cus why would you have a stop win if the more profit the better

proper river
strange cargo
#

I would be indefferent to them adding this though

#

But it would lead to confusion and regular abuse by merching clans

strong ether
#

it just sounds like doubling a system we already have

#

like asking for 16 ge offer spots

proper river
waxen trout
#

But as far as I can see this is really just to relieve the seller of the responsibility of checking the ge price tracker regularly?

proper river
#

@waxen trout yes

strong ether
#

and a gate way to ask for a stop-stop-loss

proper river
#

well, it is common in real exchanges to put in multiple stop losses just to be sure

strange cargo
strong ether
#

How many stop losses would be a reasonable amount to have per item?

#

would it need to be adjusted like the buy limit?

strange cargo
#

But there's still always a point where qol can go too far. Just like allowing you to fully automate gameplay (that some mmos allow you to do) it would be taking it tol far to allow people to use fully functional trading bots in ge, like those that people use on the stock market

strong ether
#

not allowing stop losses for stuff like fire runes

proper river
proper river
#

But one is already perfectly fine for me at least

#

I accidentally removed my post oeps

strange cargo
#

At the end of the day, they deliberately have the ge be really limited in functionality, with buy limits and only 8 slots to promote many people to do a bit of merching rather than a few people to do a lot

#

So i think that any ge update would go against that and thus is unlikely

proper river
#

GE Stop Loss Orders

#

@strange cargo Adding a stop loss feature to the GE wouldn’t scare people away from trading. In fact, it would make trading safer and could even get more people into it.

Right now, the GE has limits like buy caps and only 8 slots to trade, which keeps things balanced and makes sure lots of players can get in on merching, not just a few big traders. A stop loss would fit right in with that idea. It’s like having a safety net—if prices drop, you can automatically sell at a set price to avoid losing too much.

With a stop loss, people would feel more comfortable trying out merching because they know they won’t risk huge losses. This could actually get more players involved in trading, which is exactly what the GE seems to aim for—making it fair and fun for everyone, not just a few.

#

I need to close this post, as My initial post got deleted by accident

#

So I'll reopen it and try to integrate some of the discussion

#

yeah I know haha

#

tried to edit it

#

but then got deleted for some reason
