#Jagex account

The big thing I want changed is to decouple these things from whatever busted login servers are being used, because it feels ridiculous that jagex account logins ever break when regular ones don't.
it's so secure, sometimes even the account owner can't access it
touch grass
Tbh this ones have been an odd case cuz like half could half couldn't lol
Tho ye it's been odd
I rlly don't get the restricted system bit tho
Weak
Max 20 accounts = a restriction
That's an arbitrary restriction at absolute best
Are there even over 20 unique account types you can think of unless you are gonna somehow complete chunkmen of each region within one lifetime
I’ve had 50+ accounts during my 20 or so years on rs
It’s a restriction.
5:02 AM]Low_IQ4sure: touch grass
Want a taste or something?
Seem to want my attention real bad tonight
Tagging me in 3 threads at once
Yeah just make a modmail when that happens
Nah he’s cute, tells me to touch grass while spending his evening tagging me in random discord chats being toxic, irony is my favourite form of entertainment
Doesn't do your thread any favors
Might make it close instead of just one bad actor getting the boot
like not to minimod sorry
True, good point
What about osrs onward tho
And can you rlly tell me all those 50+ accs were unique to each other?
They were indeed. Osrs i’m at 12, but i’m not big on pking these days
Guaranteed they aren’t. Of the “12” op has on osrs they log into 1. Post is pointless and unconstructive. 20 accounts is plenty for the average player. Devs don’t create content for minority they create content for the average player. Do I have more than 10 accounts made? Probably. I log into 2. I doubt the average player has even made 5 accounts much less 20. I stand on my post. touch grass
We might believe your assumptions if you could spell guaranteed
12 in... the 11 years
So still 8
And I still don't rlly see how each is unique in a substantial matter once you hit 20+
By all means you're free to state your concerns I just don't get that part
Reset of accounts would actually be nice
Removal could be abused
About 6 of those were in the past 3-4 months, trying out some new challenges
welcome to my jagex locked ultimate ironman
Way too specific tbh
Tho ye again account reset would be nice for those things too tbh
But i’ve had all sorts of accounts, like:
- skillers
- gmaul pure
- dclaw pure
- obby pure
- obby tank
- 13 def pures
- zerk pures
- void pures
- mid levels
- mains
- ironmen (hcs can fill up a few slots if you reset on death)
And various combinations of attack/defence/melee/ranged/mage builds, plus as metas change and new restrictions are added/removed, it’s fun to experiment with different builds
Don't see any harm to acc reset at least tho removal would be rough
It can easily add up for pkers/hcim especially
resets for dead HCs would be a big plus
Yeah i’d be down with a reset even cause a lot of them are low level pures that could be remade in a week or so or hcim that are useless because my main iron is higher
Mid lvls can be anything obby tank and pure... don't rlly see the point but I could be coping
For tank at least
Anyway not here to argue specifics lol
20 I understand... and tbh the v few that this meets up to which... honestly is like 50 could make a second acc
Yeah i get it wouldn’t affect most people, but 20 just feels like an unnecessary restriction
Reset would be a bit of like best of both worlds without further issues
Ye reset would be fine tbh
It's either a server or logistics thing tbh... it used to be an account for each
As is having like 1 alt account for 40 characters over 40 accs for 40 characters still sounds better to me at least
“Devs don’t create content for the minority, they create it for the average player” you do realise this code is as simple as changing a 2 to a 4/5 and pushing the update right?
You’re lost behind the point. They could change it to 1000. It wouldn’t matter because people with jobs/faimlies/ anything else in their life and only spend 2-3 hours a day if that playing osrs. Don’t need 20 much less 40 much less account reset. Take the same pessimistic approach to your own posts that you do to others.
And what damage would changing a 2 to a 4 do to those “average players”? Please enlighten me Mr Einstein 🫡
Also, don’t make assumptions about my real life. I promise you you’d trade in an instant
? What
alsalam ealaykum
??
Or allowing resets?
I hope you find peace in your life. I’m sure you’re having a hard time.
🤣 didn’t think so, living up to the name my friend! Think twice before you embarrass yourself in future
Have a lovely afternoon!
Flexing about life circumstances isn't rlly a positive lol
Either way tbh you can just have 2 jagex accounts instead of 40 norm accounts so
It doesn't seem too too bad to me
I didn’t flex, i simply told him to not make assumptions saying i have no job/family/friends/anything else in my life because i enjoy playing rs with different builds when he’d trade places with me in an instant 🤷🏼♂️
True, but seems pointless to have to do that
It’s not like increasing the cap would automatically make everyone make 40 accounts and take up more storage
So those that were going to have 2 jagex accounts with 20 accs would have 1 with 40 accs, which would probably take up less storage, and those with 4 accounts would still have 4 accounts
if they don't also improve the drop down list I'd rather have 2 separate accounts
That thing could get unwieldy
You can hide/unhide accounts so those you’re not actively using can be hidden
Which would be enough in itself if we didn’t have a 20 cap cause once you’re done with an account you could just hide it and make another
I still think an option to reset would at least mitigate the hc issue altho there'd prolly be drama or issues due to membership
True… hadn’t thought about membership… tbh though there’s no reason it shouldn’t just carry over
Would be happy with it resetting too though
Theory yes
But even if jagex was for it ppl are extremely against jagex losing even a cent lmao but yeah... a potential money loss ig tho mby not too much tbh but ye
Big can of worms
So look at account resets from an abusable feature perspective, because that is something you need to do.
What if someone hacks you and then requests that your account is reset after they take all your gold?
Is this feature really worth it?
I’ve not been hacked in 22 years, you have to go out of your way to get hacked tbh… plus aren’t jagex accounts supposed to prevent hacking?
They could also use some form of authentication prior to resetting
No matter how secure you “think” you are, it can be done. Linking of accounts comes with stealing of tokens, which bypasses 2fa in certain scenarios, and text 2fa can be gotten around more easily than the rest.
I am just pointing out that such a feature could be abused, not that it will be a widespread abuse or anything.
Also, my question was, is the minimal upside worth the significant downside that I pointed out, not if you were hacked.
I mean even i don’t know my password, and it’d take more than a human life expectancy of computing power at today’s max rates to brute force it
But honestly, i’m not convinced if someone gets hacked for their entire bank they’re going to continue playing anyway, and jagex could always store memory of an accounts former stats for x days incase they need to restore
I see the concern, seems easy to overcome though. But even if resets aren’t possible, there’s other solutions to the 20 account limit
Like… not forcing us to use it 👀 let’s go back to username logins
The reason for it is to combat bots, so I don’t see that happening.
Unlinking accounts or simply increasing the limit is a much better solution to the 20 account limit, which as pointed out will definitely be an exception and not the norm.
Increase acc cap sure, i personally would never use it, but i don't see any harm. If you want to play on 50+ accs then you should be able to do so without relying on an alt jagex acc,
Removal/resets i'm not a big fan, since you can fix that by extending the acc cap and hiding accounts you don't want to use again, for the new player, having a jagex acc properly secured is way better than the legacy system, that stuff was abused a lot
If youre running for then id say 5... accounts at once. Youre just trying to run a bot farm.
Or you're doing something that's going to pop up in a hanannie or gudi video
I mean a lot of efficient pet hunting methods utilise more than 5 accs, but thanks for your opinion
Also, it’d be in bot owner’s interests to run separate jagex accounts for each bot to minimise the risk of chain bans. The current limit doesn’t prevent botting whatsoever.
what pet can you get that you need 21+ alts?
besides soulwars if trying to run your own normal lobby game.
Corp for a start, plus i already stated how the issue isn’t wanting to play 21+ accounts simultaneously, the issue is there’s no way to remove accounts you no longer wish to use or to make temporary accounts you only want to use for a speedrun/new challenge for a short duration without them being linked to your jagex account and then taking up a slot eternally
The fact of the matter is, this update would harm noone. Those who would benefit from it can, those who will never hit the 20 account restriction won’t even notice the change
And it doesn’t make botting easier because no competent bot farmer is running bots on the same ip, let alone the same jagex account
It would benefit pkers, hcim, pet hunters, streamers and other content creators
It would harm noone’s experience
i must have missed the removal part.
i can see where that can be useful.
but also see where it can be abused.
maybe adding a xx limit to remove.
like those codes they give you as a fail safe if lost pw/auth to get in
Yeah removal would be fine with me tbh, though this could lead to account selling potentially
hense the abuse
Which may be the one thing jagex accounts actually combat effectively
Which is why i’d lean more towards allowed account resets (even if limited to hcim/below x total accs) or uncapping/increasing cap
like suicide alts?
faild pure. lost hc. reset it?
interesting.
no mems refund system wipe maybe
Yeah, just a way to not have those dead accounts clog up the limited slots
even if took like a month to delete.
7days should be plenty. but month gives ample time to change mind / deter some abuse
think if caught a ban it should lock option to delete. so easy reference flag for a second attempt
Agreed, plus they could use some form of authentication and store exp state of pre-reset for x days incase it was a hack and needs to be restored
jagex isnt in the habbit of rollback anymore. very rare
i think once it done its done. hack or not.
all more reason to keep your stuff locked down
The reset idea came from seeing a new player in general chat the other day, made a normal account, membered it, found out about ironman, wanted to restart but couldn’t until his membership ran out
Ye tbh it’s pretty difficult to get hacked unless your password is jellyfish123
Brb changing pass
eventhen... hacking is a result of putting your info someplace.
no one just sits there and runs an algorithm to hack you.
True, even bruteforcing jellyfish123 would take years
The same issue happens whatever is more popular. Beforehand, when the legacy account login server had issues, people complained as well and it lasted for hours at times.
Jagex said over 50% of accounts are now Jagex Accounts, so decoupling the login server and moving it to another really wouldn't change much.
I don’t recall issues being anywhere near as frequent pre-migration tbh but maybe i’m misremembering
to this day only a handful of my accounts are on the launcher
the ones i rarely play are still old login
Smart, i trusted jagex to release an update that wasn’t bugged to fuck and migrated all of mine straight away 🤦🏼♂️
Not sure why i thought they’d release something without a bug for a change
now if the jagex launcher had improved login while hopping worlds..
i may move the pures over.
hopin worlds to pk is sometimes a year to hop
In terms of total time, I think pre-migration was worse.
One of the few times Jagex actually gave membership codes back was December 2022 when the login was down for substantial time after the playerbase kept complaining.
Jagex Account was launched in April 2023 and they haven't given any membership codes back for downtime, if that's any indicator.
Didn’t we have like 4 downtimes of 3h+ in the last 3 weeks or so though?
All around the same time, affecting the same players
Not sure about 3h+, but there was one that was like 10 minutes.
Eh, i’m OCE and we’ve had multiple 2-3h downtimes due to login failures in recent times
But anyway, sounds like i misremembered the severity of pre-rollout downtimes
Ah, OCE
If I'm remembering correctly, the outage that resulted in membership codes being distributed was 5 hours at peak times 😂
OCE just naturally gets fucked by update timers + hotfix timers
Damn i wish oce got those privileges, i’d have free membership for the rest of the year 🤣
Has this been addressed yet or is this limit still a thing? 🤔
