The devs have said that they don't like to add this festure back because it would encourage top level players to hoard items to loan them out

#

.
That's the official reason, but personally i think it would also make it so that every player would have access to end game gear and there would be almost no gear peogression in the game, you would just rent the best gear amd go do the best moneymaker

No, osrs does not need this feature. Too many ways to abuse this system

The only abuse of it I can see is people demanding x amount of money to borrow their item, but to me that's down to you and the person lending. If you don't want to pay a silly amount to borrow something, then don't borrow it end of story. I personally think it would take away the risk of having an item stolen through lending, and if you aren't using something you can safely lend it to someone for them to use!

# formal patrol I mean that can happen regardless, I understand it would maybe happen more but p...

Obviously you can lend items without an official festure to do so, but you'd need to colateralize your loan 100% (or the lender is taking a risk) which means that you may as well just buy the gear, unless you frequently switch gear

Every single kate stage capitalsm thing eventually makes its way into any mmo given a long enough timespan but that doesn't mean the devs should try to accelerate that process

This is just bad practice from a game design perspective. The only way item lending could work without this issue would be if it was completely free to borrow an item. 🤷‍♂️

# tribal vessel The problem is that this allows wealthy players to take money from poorer player...

That is true but it allows those poorer players access to the items that could possibly allow them to acquire the wealthier items for themselves.

The wealthier players put the time and effort etc into getting these items. If they just kept the item in their bank, it wouldn't do anything. To me there's two choices and they are to either sell the item for it's full value, or lend it out to people who cannot afford the item.

The wealthier player is making a small amount of money in regards to the value of the item and the poorer player is getting to experience the item they couldn't afford in the first place, which may also allow them to get closer to finally being able to afford it.

I'm sure it could be possible to make it so that items can be lended for a price but the price being limited to x% of the item itself, or per hour/day or whatever!?
