I just finished the quest and honestly it wasn't that bad. The mansion sneaking section didn't bug out for me (I've heard it can be impossible to complete). It was still a bit frustrating, as the guards can “see” (hear?) a fair number of tiles behind them in addition to in front of them. That's unlike most other stealth sections of this and other games.

  • Guards should be updated to only look ahead or 1-2 tiles behind.

  • Cat / follower mechanics are also highlighted in this quest and end up being.. really weird. Sometimes I feel like my cat just disappeared when going upstairs. A whistle button (on amulet of catspeak?) would have been way better than logout log back in.

The accents I think also got updated so the characters were easy to understand.

The rest ended up kinda cute, especially cooperating with my cat to smoke out rats and fighting the king rat.

Was it worth it for 4k thieving XP and access to rat pits?

..no. But IMO give some hunter XP + let us challenge NPCs in Rat Pits and it could.
