I think It would be great for f2p to be able to level up to 5 on members skills. It would allow non members to experience member skills and see what they are missing. They have it on rs3 and think its a great idea.

I actually kinda agree with that, at least for skills that already have skilling spots in regions that are f2p

#

like let them do the agility roof top course in draynor or something

#

but no graceful drops obv

#

fletching is w/e, thieving the level 3 man in lumbridge is fine

#

I can't think of anything that would be too awkward or would need a lot of work, just making sure xp is capped to 5 may cause some unexpected issues

#

botters will instantly send thousands of suicide bots to try and break something somewhere

Here are my guesses as to what suicide bots would do. I think they would make headless arrows, bowstrings, clean grimy guam, and marrentill leaves, and make unfinished guam, and marrentill potions. They also might grow barley hops every 40 minutes at the patch on the east side of the river Lum south of Varrock.

I am 100% certain I remember training my thieving to 5 as a fresh F2P at some point in time, perhaps it was on the other Runescape.

I think RS2 back in the day had it for a short time before or right after the first EoC update

#

I think before because I stopped playing for a long time after that

You'd be surprised, if they have a robust enough automated account creation system then they're paying fractions of a cent per account assuming they have a rented server running hundreds of instances of OSRS in the text only mode. If they can get enough accounts made over a long enough period that aren't flagged for botting then even money makers that we might scoff at might make enough cash from illegal trades to get around it

#

It's always worth considering the extremes

#

Someone, somewhere will find an exploit so best to be diligent

unkempt sequoia
#

Text only mode exists on osrs? All the bots I see either do diamond necklace and that is 300k/hour . I don’t see how it would be possible to beat that. Even water fill bots are like 100k an hour

warm hatch
#

I don't think it's official? But due to how relatively simple the game is you can run a text only version of the game that takes up almost no CPU usage. You'll see high level wildy bot farms use this on scout accounts

#

You can still snapshot data for loaded game chunks and pull it for other automated bots

#

If it wasn't so nefarious it would actually be impressive

#

Ik sir pugger has shown it in a few vids over the years, it may not be as popular as it once was

According to the wiki making unfinished marrentill potions is 440k an hour. Edit. it says 440k an hour on one page, but 412k an hour on another.

warm hatch
#

Yeah assuming they could maintain the supplies to sustain that on thousands of accounts then that would be an insane money maker for F2P bots

#

You have to ask why it's 20k in the first place

#

Not a lot of people collect marrentill

#

Might just be that the amount of unfinished potions is at 20k daily due to only that many being made

#

If supply goes up, prices dip, you may see a niche cheaper way to level herblore

#

Keeping the prices and profits stable

jade venture
#

Unfinished guam potions make less money, but have a 317k daily volume according to the wiki.

warm hatch
#

Less money per account but larger quantities

#

Perfect for botting

jade venture
#

I listed the items that bots could make money on, because I looked at the skill requirements for 1-5 of members skills and looked to see what would make a profit. Bots fill jugs/buckets/bowls with water in f2p, and that makes much less profit than some of the things I mentioned. Of course if higher requirement things make less money than filling containers with water, I don't expect bots to do it.

Making headless arrows might make around 315k an hour too, assuming perfect efficiency.

Ye this sounds like an all round bad idea for the sake of making the life easier of the 2 actual humans that use f2p worlds

#

Just make marrentil pots for a few hours and buy a bond

jade venture
#

I am not saying that f2p shouldn't get any skills that are currently members. I am just pointing out what might go wrong.

warm hatch
#

This is why my first response to this was let them use member skills to 5 but make all the items they create with those skills untradable

unkempt sequoia
#

That sounds good

warm hatch
#

Getting a taste for people who legit wanna try them and prevent botters from getting 100 new ways to crash the market

#

No doubt someone will figure out a break point where bots can sit there making these items in F2P and then know when to eat the cost of a bond to offload all of the items they've made

#

Maybe they'd have to just make a new item ID that totally bricks those items even in members worlds too

#

Like if you make 100k marrentill pot (unf) in F2P then you can only sell them after you have made them into completed potions

#

That would really crimp the efficiency of anyone trying this strat

jade venture
#

One option would be to experiment with the least disruptive skill. Agility. If f2p players had access to the agility skill, and the Draynor rooftop course, without marks of grace, it is not going to break anything. Of course the counter argument is that it does change much either.

I mean is there a level 5 shortcut in the f2p area that is even decent?

Even the first threshold for increasing run energy regen is at lvl 6

forest yacht
#

So we’re agreed this poses a risk with little to no reward and should be scrapped as an idea?

id rather jagex just straight up give a free 14day or even 1month free membership to players

#

after they complete all f2p quests or after some hours played
