#Run / High Alch Interaction

There's two issues that may be intended in relation to run energy.

  • While running, you cannot queue a high alchemy OR it very frequently gets cancelled.

  • While running, a high alchemy can actually delay your movement for one tick
(see sepulchre video, my movement is paused between tick 5 and tick 2).
This does not occur for actions such as fletching amethyst darts which I also have in my inventory as a downtime activity.

Both of these serve as nothing but a nuisance to players, and should not be the case.

I've fallen victim to this when doing one-click summer garden runs

This could be the same engine jank that affects auto-casting with a staff
I'd love to see it be addressed

the first one is a recent thing

#

idk when exactly it started but some other update caused it

Nah these have been issues since at least 2020 when I started OSRS

#

I believe the movement delay is tied to crossing map load lines/chunk borders while attempting to alch

whole atlas
#

I'm guessing

  • Spells Require target information
  • Target information involves map information
  • Engine has a check that map information is certain
  • Casting on the last tile before loading would be delayed as a safety in pvp scenarios

so this would mean high alch would need to be reworked into an action rather than purely a spell.

#

I'm sure it'd be a performance improvement too, not having to do map checks

#

I also sense that this delay could be abused in pvp, if you can force your target to keep getting delayed

#

but that's another issue

darts are 0t

#

so yea ofc you wouldn't stop movement

#

alching is queued on client input unless you're off-cooldown iirc

#

and stuff like load lines (which are really just areas and not actual lines) add to the 'area queue'

#

during the player turn on each game tick:

#

so area queue is resolved before the player interacts with the object i presume, hence the stopping of movement?

#

edit: checked

#

Why does doing a second alch on the 5th tick stall you?
> it always stalls when you alch from weak queue - even if you don't initiate it on tick 5, it always stalls you on tick 5

> Why does the alch weak queue break after movement? It seems to be unique in that way, other weak queues such as making potions do not break from movement

response:

And about the new question: sometimes, weakqueue has an area check and only executes i[n] you're still in the correct area. Seems like it's implemented for alching but idk why.

#

following up:

When our character is on certain tiles, called area tiles, commands are put into our area queue. When an interface is open or our character is stalled, movement is blocked when our area queue is not empty

#

so in other words there's a weak command queued which has an area check, you're given an area queue command which means it's not empty, therefore you get movement-stalled

Sounds like a dev answer

wasn't a dev

(Client side checks mean a modder can bypass it)

#

For example if your client told the server which npc you just killed, there's controllable Trojans which allow you to modify the message saying you killed a cow and edit it to say you killed a player.

tribal orchid
#

most of runescript and most of how the game works is well documented

#

just not very publically accessible

golden barn
#

We can have access to runescript documentation? blobsweats

tribal orchid
#

yes

whole atlas
#

That's just client API tho

#

Right?

golden barn
#

Is RS3 made in RuneScript too? derpcheese

tribal orchid
#

is what client api

whole atlas

That github

whole atlas
#

It's not like osrs source code

golden barn
#

It’s just markdown.

#

Based on what I can see.

tribal orchid
#

i may be stupid but i don't understand your question

whole atlas
tribal orchid
#

it isn't osrs source code that's correct

golden barn
#

Does OSRS have an API? CLg_BlobGlareHmm

#

And is it just for stuff like hiscores?

whole atlas
tribal orchid
#

there's a ge api too iirc

#

it's worth noting that i'm pretty sure people have the runescript source code for osrs though

golden barn
#

Is that how private servers are made? derpcheese

tribal orchid
#

e.g. people know that catablepon are in opplayer2 mode normally but switch to applayer2 if attacked from a distance

I have no idea what I’m lookin’ at for the runescript docs. duckthink

Source code leak actually happened for gtaV I believe

That's some 14 yo coder work

Pserver shit

tribal orchid
#

its worth remembering that runescript is really old

#

and it was (iirc) originally just for quests

#

What he said is not what you showed

tribal orchid

and they had to add implementation much later for non-quest behaviour and so on
