the 1m fee sounds more like a money sink

I think the idea was to have a money sink but it's obviously silly.

#

You got this super cool pet that you either 1) got really lucky with or 2) grinded countless hours and guess what happens if you want to show it off in a place that happens to be "dangerous"? You get punished 🙃

#

It's not an item that provides value, it's strictly cosmetic. All very silly now that we have things like GE tax.

feral peak
#

its silly for sure, but if you do have a pet (no counting the extremely spooned ones) 1m shouldn't be much of a problem for you to pay i guess

dark verge
#

I want to bring my pet places, its just cosmetic and really brings some life to the game

#

But sucks when I go do a raid or boss and forget I have it

#

It also disproportionally affects iron accounts because raw gp is harder to acquire there

eternal summit
#

It is literally just "if you choose to show off something cosmetic, you pay more money".

feral peak
#

sure, i agree its silly, but most of the people that focus on cosmetics have far more cash than an average player, consider your examples, fang kit is ToA 500+ and twisted ancestral is CoX CM, even an IM wouldn't have cash issues doing that kind of content

eternal summit
#

I used poor examples. Regardless of a player being able to afford it or not doesn't really have anything to do with justifying it's existence.
Lets say a player just bought membership and thought it would be cool to add a saradomin ornament kit to their rune scimitar. Now let's also tell them that, any time they die, they get to pay an extra 1m GP just for using something that looks different and provides no stat benefits.

#

I don't mind GP sinks. I just mind GP sinks that make zero sense.

#

In fact, it's literally hypocritical since cosmetic items actually make your death fees lower.

feral peak
#

again, i'm not disagreeing with the fact that its a bad design, just that it does not create a big deal since the amount in itself is not that expensive (from what i understand), but I've gotten out of topic bringing items into the mix, the cost fees of 1m for pets being lost is almost free considering pets that were not spooned, even for Irons i guess

How bout just stop dying?

#

10m per pet and then let me infinitely reclaim them.

proven umbra
#

I don't even want to have to reclaim. River is right--the fact that pets disappear on death deincentivises players from actually taking their pets anywhere with them.

#

Just let us keep them on death so that we can choose a pet to take with us once and never worry about it again

west elk
#

ironic that it would more a more effective money sink if it was cheaper

sullen olive
#

For a measly 50k fee and I will bring it everywhere lol

#

I've detonated myself with 28 pets before and that puts me in the top gp sinker for pets sadly enough.

#

Also yeah wtf. Irons don’t have any GP benefit for pets wack. They often have a “go costs are 50% less” tacked on. But for pets they get full price

earnest phoenix
#

Also I'm pretty sure there's a bug where pets disappear sometimes so it's pretty easy to accidentally take a pet somewhere you might die without realizing

#

I get they want a gold sink. But at the same time, it discourages bringing them to dangerous content.

#

That's slapping on an extra 1M on top of the regular death fees

#

Sure 1M isn't that much in the grand scheme of things, but just makes the death more costly for no other reason but to get you to sink more gold.

red bloom
#

Gold sink and then its safe to take anywhere with no punishment

pulsar vector
#

Think about it this way, bringing a pet to dangerous content with the 1M reclaim fee incentivces you to get good so u dont lose 1m.

dense umbra
#

atleast make it 100k for irons

#

iu guess with 10m some vew few people are bringing it

#

just for people to have disable pets

#

in plugins xD

blazing vault
#

i mean yes 1 mil isnt a lot, but its also not nothing, which is really what it should be. Theyve already made steps towards making pets easier to reclaim in general, so i dont think its too much to expect them to make it free. Doesnt seem out of line with previous updates

proven umbra
#

Even if you don't care about the 1m, going to Ardy to reclaim it is still annoying

karmic crescent
#

Just let them be the prestige they're supposed to be

Full support... not only for pets but for other purely cosmetic items: recolor kits, weird clothing, and the like. If something has precisely zero practical benefits and only serves to make the game mote fun, it ought to be a free reclaim.

They can build in money sinks elsewhere. This one makes no sense in terms of in-game logic.

#

But!!! The wildy is a different place with altogether different death mechanics. If we want pets to be treated like other inventory... wouldn't they be stealable by pkers?

karmic crescent
sullen olive
#

That's if I'm offering my pets, I burn through ~10 of them before I mass reclaim lol

lofty temple
#

I'm surprised the cost for reclaim is not reduced on irons, considering death fees are, since gold sinks on ironman is kinda pointless

#

After all, the purpose of a gold sink, (and I don't mean like an item cost such as creating an elysian or DFS if you lack the requirements, that's rpg mechanic because you can use skill to compensate that), is to reduce inflation on the economy. But ironmen don't really interact with the economy in a significant way.

#

Basically it's a gold sink if you are paying and not really getting any tangible power benefit out of it.

blazing vault
#

[[gold sink]]

red bloom
#

Honestly reducing it to 100k or something may even act as a greater gold sink, we’d likely see pets used pking etc at that cost

#

Especially if the inconvenience of going to ardy to claim back was removed

blazing vault
#

i mean the only reason for there even being a 1mil gp cost that ive seen so far is "gold sink" which is a terrible argument IMO. cause in the grand scheme of things, you can just not take the pet, bypassing the gold sink. If you end up taking the pet youre probably not gunna die, bypassing the gold sink. 1 mil in the grand scheme of things as a gold sink in this game is tiny. Like GE tax on a single 1 bil item is probably more than has ever been sunk on pet reclaims

red bloom
#

Your maths a little off, but it’s a good point conceptually. I had originally downvoted this post but i think ima remove it.

blazing vault
#

yeah definitely hyperbole saying ge tax on a single 1b item is more than on every pet ever. But % wise pets arent any meaningful gold sink

#

and its not even a lesser of two evils. Like if you dont wanna be taxed on buying a scytche, go farm one. Dont wanna be fined 1 mil for dying? just dont walk your dog??? Get another one?

lofty temple
#

I even wonder if the 1m is just chosen arbitrarily or they found it was a good balance between price and usability. You want that good balance in a gold sink, I think, where people will pay it enough, so you don't want it too high.

#

Like @red bloom said if it were cheaper, more people would use it, more people would be losing pets and paying more often. On my main I had like 9 pets and I've never paid the fee because I never take them to a possible death scenario which would make me pay it.

#

Especially in situations where you die outside of your control like a party wipe or a disconnect, not worth it lol

blazing vault
#

yeah that too. i dont wanna just lose 1 mil for a DC. death coffer is different, cause its such a tiny fee (mostly) that no one cares. while 1 mil is so much

proud forge
#

on a related note, can the pets please keep their transmogs, especially ones where the recolors are painful to re-obtain, like rift guardian (so you don't have to keep the transmog item in bank) and phoenix (on irons)

#

baby chin also comes to mind

celest lynx
#

^ Was unaware this was a thing O.O

winter nacelle
#

Oh what? If you lose your pet with a transmog, you have to get it back???

proud forge
#

yeah. some transmogs are permanent unlocks (raids pets, dark acorn squirrel, beaver unlocks) so it's not a big deal for those. but there's few that work differently and you need to use the item each time you want to transmog them

celest lynx
#

I think it’s more that you get the base version of the pet back right

#

So you have to re-set the conditions
