#Allow Irons to use Death's Coffer money to buy bank slots

Irons are the main type of account requiring additional bank slots, since many niche items acquired along an iron account's journey and almost all skilling items need to be stored. Raw GP, however, is more difficult to obtain on an iron account than it is on a main account, since GP must be earned directly through coin drops, selling items to shops, and high alchemy. GP on an ironman has a few very tangible uses, namely buying runes and other supplies, but bank slots quickly become astronomically expensive and don't feel like a justifiable use of raw GP past the first few tiers.

If irons could use Death's Coffer money to buy bank slots, it would make the higher tier of bank slots more feasible to acquire while still sinking items/gp from the economy.

While not against it, it seems kind of backwards that irons are asking to benefit from GE prices, on top of already have 50% less in death fees (should be the same as mains).

If anything this would remove gp from iron death coffer so I don’t see why that’s relevant at all

#

This post is about bank slots, not the gravestone fee

You are benefitting from GE price like a main would, which I pointed out is contradictory given a large portion of irons play because "gpscape bad".

You save an insane amount of time because the time it takes to get 200-400m raw gp compared to 1 torva piece valued at 200-400m ge price is a lot.

I don't speak for all irons, but I'd happily lose the 50% death cost and 10% extra death coffer value if I could pay for "GP sinks" with item value instead of raw GP which I need to upkeep runes with. With the precedent set by deaths coffer for using item value to pay for a GP sink, bank slots and potentially pet reclaim fees and GWD private instances are GP sinks that disproportionately affect iron accounts compared to mains

#

Those factors are strictly QoL/cosmetic, unlike runes and shops which directly apply to PvM

vivid forge
#

Nearly every progressed iron with a functioning brain would agree because you get ~1b in torva dupes going on-rate for Nex and the time to not amass raw gp, which you know is harder to obtain.

#

Even the lower tier bank slots would be even easier to get too since you get lower tier dupes and can easily amass 40m for 1000 space.

This is the intention, I'm totally fine with this suggestion being translated to "Make bank slots easier for irons to obtain", since I think that isn't a crazy integrity issue and falls strictly under a QoL buff. I could easily chuck 50 items in my bank away to clear some space and would probably not suffer that much, but it would make my life easier and allow me to store some cosmetic items outside of my house for easy access if I had access to more bank slots

On top of that it's still straight up deleting things from the game.

not an iron and i agree

Even if the rate isn't 1:1 (say, increasing the total cost for all bank slots from 880m to 1720m) it would still be a nice extra avenue for irons to go through and unlock the space without alching thousands of items

give irons more bankslots while removing items from eco

Yes pls, with a max tax of 10% or whatever arbitrary number to make "balanced"

This seems like a great way to sink items and reward irons for not dropping dupes into the economy

#

feel like with this id actually delete items from the economy rather then just dropping them on my main and selling in ge

severe sierra
#

I would absolutely put one of my dupe shadows in death coffer for all the bank slots rather than drop it to my alt yeah

lime iron
#

Considering we can use death coffer for instances already this would make a lot of sense as it would have a positive impact on the main game economy as my raw gp has no effects but the dupes I drop do. I would quickly buy all bank space if I could use deaths coffer.

Last i checked its not on the wiki or anything its not well known

#

Im not sure about rev caves.

#

Or Wildy boss fees as they drop gp to the pker?

I'm an ironman who paid the 50m and all prior upgrades. I need this badly. I cannot see a way for me to do the higher ones, ever, now that I need to upkeep shadow when maging.

#

Give me a reason to do toa after greenlog with new clannies beyond just helping them. Shadow dupe == bank space? i'll take it

past dew
#

i didint even think about it like that hunting dupes or green log content could actually be very useful

I like this proposal; Should Mains also be able to pay for bank space with death coffer then?

severe sierra
#

I think as long as it adjusts up the cost for the inflation of adding stuff to coffer it should be fine, but also might make sense not to in order to prevent taking advantage of GE prices not reflecting reality after a significant price change from an announcement or something

Just clean your bank… I played Ironman account and hoarded all the seemingly useful items, I’ve never really struggled with bank space. Use POH, use item stashes for clues (this saves 100s of spaces) and use emote clue items plugin to make sure you hang onto clue items you can’t stash yet, then use wasted bank space plugin to store / drop everything else. I’m maxed and I currently have 240m cash stack on my iron and still don’t feel the need to expand my bank. I am also still happily hoaring a ton of stuff.

gaunt magnet
#

I've already done all the bank space saving things as well, all stages built, everything in POH, pot storage, etc.

severe sierra
#

Yeah I also have a maxed iron and while I do have a few things I intentionally keep in my bank that can be stored (such as a few pets and items for fashionscape), really this doesn’t change the fact that even if bank space isn’t a hard-stopping issue if you meticulously organize your bank, there’s no reason that an endgame player shouldn’t reasonably be able to afford these slots if they’re willing to pay the price. Sacrificing a dupe shadow or other dupes should definitely be able to let you get this benefit. Even if I have hundreds of millions of gp, there’s no way I’m going to spend that on bank slots based on the upkeep of items like the shadow and scythe.

#

I currently don’t feel that I could justify getting any more bank slots based on the exponential price growth, even if I can afford a couple more sets.

#

Only thing I possibly have against this is that early/mid game players can "relatively easily" get extra low tier bank space unlocks by sacrificing heavily inflates items such as digsite teles, but I don't think that to be a very big issue

severe sierra
#

Early midgame players are often people that struggle with bank space too because they still have a lot of quest item clutter, not to mention that any main account could just use that same value to buy bank slots regardless of this change being made

calm vapor
#

Deaths coffer money won't impact progression on the account if used for this purpose. This is quite the rad idea tbh

#

I've purchased some of the slots already, any further ones just aren't viable to alch that many items for while a big raid dupe would be able to help cover it

#

It still leads to GP being taken out of the economy, so I don't see a downside to it

Make it 50% of GE value still fine. Beats alching a unique worth millions for a measly 80k

yes, its an update intended for irons, but it just gives them some of the utility mains already have by looking at a particular pain point: hard cash. mains get easy enough access to it to buy bank slots when they feel they can afford it, thus countering inflation, while irons really dont want to touch their hard cash to upkeep megarares.

this simply helps the economy at large since dupes get deleted from the game, rather than dropped over to their alts

#

after all, if jagex felt the need to up the ge tax from 1% to 2%, surely having hoards of irons deleting their items instead of dropping them over would be something they'd prefer to see

#

I've bought the 50m cash upgrade as iron myself, before I had megas, and I feel like that is the last reasonable step at that point.

severe sierra
#

Also on my iron yeah

dusky vector
#

yeah those slots aint ever happening at this rate

#

so the question simply becomes: do we want almost every iron to delete a megarare for bank slots, which would help combat inflation? or not

severe sierra
#

I mean I do have a 275m cash stack and 200m more in alchs but I'm not spending that on bank spaces

dusky vector
#

im legit so broke im about to have to get 99 smithing just to upkeep my rares lmfao

severe sierra
#

(And 600 more onyx tips I missed)

#

But yeah I would be an idiot to ever use this on bank space.

While I don't see any downside, I also can see why this wouldn't happen. The bank spaces are effectively another way for Jagex to sink money out of the economy.
The biggest question about this is whether or not this would impact the rates of people dropping items over to mains to GE. If it doesn't significantly, there's no reason to change it. The economic balance stays the same, you are just coffering to cover death fees and dropping different things over.
I'm also viewing this over the same lens that everyone who hates irons getting "GE credit" to buy bonds are going to hate this for the exact same reason. At the end of the day, you are effectively vendoring an item for GE price and buying something with it.
Personally, I'm of the opinion that any gold sink Jagex wants to implement needs to factor in some way for iron's to participate in, because otherwise they're going to just drop it over to a main anyway. Whether that be this, or buying bonds, we shouldn't need an intermediary risk step that makes accounts look like bots.

dusky vector
#

you could even code it so that only the bigger ones - say 10m+ - could be bought with coffer money if you feel like it would be too strong for irons otherwise

#

then you first sink actual gp out of the economy before removing some items

#

and irons would not be able to abuse some weird items to quickly buy bank spaces early

#

but if you pull a dupe shadow/tbow/scythe, you would be able to yeet it for the bank slots

chrome sleet
#

Yeah I think just add a nice tax to this feature and it will be fine.

No real downside, make it usable for all accounts as well. So if a main accidentally puts something in the coffer, they can “spend” the value on something semi-beneficial. I’m sure someone put something there accidentally and has tons of lost value they will never use.
