#Make bonesack hold some bones

I've always felt that while the bonesack is cool and everything, a very satisfying opportunity has been missed with not allowing it to carry any bones. Since it's not hard to obtain the bonesack I don't suggest anything extreme, simply a small amount of bones to be stored. This would mostly function as something to bring along with you on a slayer task so that you can stuff a few bones in there to haul back to the bank and extend your trip. I don't really see it playing any role in prayer training methods but if it seems that it would break something I'd be interested to know.

I like the idea but I bet it would be abusable somehow

We build a mofuckin gilded altar under his house and off his vinegar soaked boney ass for some fat xp

dense spire
#

Yeah this has been suggested multiple times... but it's still a great idea!

#

I also think this should be hidden behind a mini quest in which you fight whatever creepy thing lives in the bonesack already.

rain ledge
#

Even when i first did the quest like 15 years ago i remember getting the bonesack and expecting to be able to carry some bones and wondering why it wasnt working i think thats why its been suggested a bunch it just makes sense that it would work that way

#

Taking a bag full of bones into the GWD with bones to peaches tabs is a bit iffy, but if that sounds like a problem, it could always be restricted to empty only at banks

#

Personally, I don't think it's a problem. Bones to Peaches already lets GWD trips last indefinitely anyway, without the extra help 🤷‍♂️

rain ledge
#

yeah i mean i dont see people taking a b2p tab stack + bonesack to gwd

#

Depending on how many bones it would carry, yeah if it held like 50 they probably would

kind roost
#

If it held more than ~6 it would be worth taking

rain ledge
# kind roost If it held more than ~6 it would be worth taking

Maybe so, if it could only be emptied at a bank that would solve that, I really just want it to be useful on a slayer task to bring back extra d bones lets say, a lot of the time you want to collect bones on a task too but you dont want to sacrifice food for bones early on, if we could just figure out what restrictions to put on it to keep it in that realm

#

And it obviously shouldn't outshadow the use of bonecrusher as thats much harder to get

I feel like this thread is one we need to keep bringing attention to, but we've pretty much covered the concept. Ironically, it's so uncontroversial that there's no additional conversation about it.

dense spire

If that's what you need, sure. I was just going to say you lack the skills yo fit thus type of bone into the sack.

Same logic can be used to exclude long and curved bones: "You try your best, but that item simply won't fit in the bag."

glad oar
#

Maybe a bone sack upgrade for superior/dagannoth/hydra bones? Could be a drop or other unlock, it would be very strong for an item you get free from a fairly easy quest

dense spire
#

An upgrade might be the way to do it, sure. Whether you unlock higher-tier bones by completing some task, killing something fierce, or obtaining a rare item, I'm good with any of those options. I'd also be in favor of an upgrade to expand the capacity. Maybe you start out being able to hold only 15 bones and you can expand it up to 30 and then 40 somehow? Basically it could be a lot like the pouches for runecrafting in that regard.

rain ledge
#

Bump, yeah i like both of those ideas, not sure which would be the best way to do it, but higher tier bones should be behind something if accessible

rotund edge
#

Rag and Bone Man 3 where the bone devil on the guy's back breaks into the Varock museum via the empty southern display area on the Fossil Island floor

#

Gotta fight the Bone Man boss

#

You can make the fight harder by donating rare fossils and high level bones, causing the boss to gain new attack patterns and mechanics but also getting a higher shot at dropping uniques

#

One of which is the bone sack upgrade

polar swan
#

I like the idea of the bone sack starting with being able to hold a pretty low number of bones & upgrading to be actually useful

dense spire
# rotund edge Rag and Bone Man 3 where the bone devil on the guy's back breaks into the Varock...

I like the idea of fighting the Bone Man boss, but I'm not sure the functionality should be a rare drop after that. I think completing R&BM 1 and 2, plus a boss fight, is more than enough work to be able to use a bag to carry things. PLUS... I don't see any in-universe logical impediments to using it as a container once the bone man monster is out of it. What I hadn't thought of was the idea that it breaks into the Varrock Museum. That could work... maybe the miniquest/event starts by wearing the bag to the Museum, and then the monster inside smells all preserved the bones nearby and just can't control itself?

dense spire
# rain ledge Bump, yeah i like both of those ideas, not sure which would be the best way to d...

At a minimum, EITHER the number of bones OR the type of bones that can be stored in the sack should scale with prayer level. If you're a level 3 noob, you shouldn't be able to fill your sack with lava dragon bones. With that being said, if you lock the functionality behind a reasonably hard boss fight, not to mention all the stuff you've got to kill before getting the sack in the first place, maybe this is a non-issue?

rotund edge
#

So you can have the ash sanctifier, bone crusher and ectoplasmator and the ensouled head banker in there

#

It would be a toggle so you can either hold more bones or all 4 of those items

dense spire
#

Hmmmm... I don't know about mixing this functionality with the bonecrusher. The whole point of the bag is to be able to carry the bones, not instantly dispose of them. What I could see happening is a way to combine a bonecrusher with a bone sack so that smaller bones (regular through big maybe) get crushed, whilst larger and therefore more valuable bones (babydragon and above?) would get routed to the sack.

rotund edge
#

You get an upgrade that lets you store those 4 items but they take up the space and then you can't store bones

dense spire
#

Why would you need to store the sanctifier AND the bonecrusher? Don't monsters usually drop one or the other?

rotund edge
#

So you can either put those 4 items in or take them out and go back to storing bones

#

Just ease of use for slayer

#

You can have all 4 at once

#

No need to mess with bank slots

#

Make the upgrade some kind of bag reinforcement so it can either hold more bones than the initial quest reward or it can now carry the unique prayer drop items

dense spire
#

I'm not sure that upgrade is necessary, but I have no outright objection to it.

rotund edge
#

Unironically a UIM upgrade

#

Or just for lazy people

rain ledge
#

Yea im not sure about mixing it either, prayer is a valuable skill and im trying to avoid interfering with prayer training methods (albeit bonecrusher is not necessarily a method in itself). I think the idea of using prayer level for access is a good start, the bone man in the sack boss is an interesting idea, we gotta get him outta there somehow!

dense spire
# rotund edge Unironically a UIM upgrade

Actually UIM is the one place where I don't know how this would work. My vote would be that the bone sack can't be unloaded except at a bank interface so that people can't use it to carry double bones to the Chaos Altar. We don't want the thing to become TOO valuable, after all. UIMs would have to do it some other way, though I guess whatever logic exists for the fish barrel would work here.

rain ledge
#

Yes i think the bank only would be a necessity

dense spire
#

Indeed. Otherwise it would be approximately 3.7 seconds before the word "easyscape" is mentioned.

#

I've never played a UIM before (because I like myself as a person) so I'm not sure... how does the fish barrel work for those accounts?

#

Does anybody here know?

rotund edge
#

I thought it could only be unloaded at the bank?

#

#

[[fish barrel]]

dense spire

You know I read that article a couple times, but I totally missed the part where it says "for Ultimate Ironmen, fish can be withdrawn by using the barrel on an appropriate bank stand" until now.

rotund edge
dense spire
#

Yeah... that seems reasonable enough.

rotund edge
#

Ye

#

So if they did the same for a bone sack it would be fine

dense spire
#

Agreed

rotund edge
#

Arguably I'd be okay with people risking it at the chaos altar in lieu of noted bones

#

You have to pay the same fee at the guy outside to take em out

#

And make the sack replacement cost very high

#

Maybe pay the dude a one off fee of 1 to 5m to use the sack like it's noted bones?

dense spire
#

If we're copying the fish barrel, it would simply go to the grave if the player is killed in PvP. I think that would be the favourable way to do this since it would help in collecting lava dragon bones, but the tradeoff would have to be that it can't be used at the Chaos Altar. Restricting it like that also keeps it from being abused at Phials, the ectofuntus, and so forth.

rotund edge
#

I mean if R&BM3 ends up being a harder quest and boss

dense spire
#

I figure the "what does this do in the wildy" logic might as well mimic what happens to the barrel for dark crab fishing.

rotund edge
#

Eh fair ig

The RS3 version isn't that tough

dense spire
#

Gross. Yeah no... this should be something substantial. It doesn't have to be a DT2-level boss... maybe something more like one of the God Wars generals in terms of difficulty?

rotund edge
#

I'd say above the average GWD boss but below Nex

dense spire
#

Sorry... Yes, I was thinking of Nex when I typed that. Somewhere in that range.

rotund edge
#

Like you could kill it at 80 in all melee stats but you may be cutting it close

dense spire
#

As to whether the bony horror can be revisited outside of NMZ, that all depends on what rewards they want to pair with it. I guess if it drops all kinds of bones, it might be worth doing again.

rotund edge
#

Would be funny if you could feed it specific bones to make it weak to specific bane weapons

dense spire
#

Yeah... the kind of boss that you ought to bring thralls and sara brews to.

rotund edge
#

If you give it a shit load of rat bones and Scurrius spines it becomes weak to the rat smasher

#

But that lowers it's reward pools

#

If you give the boss dragon bones it has a chance of shooting dragon fire at you

dense spire
#

Interesting. At baseline it should be weak to Crumble Undead and Crush.

rotund edge
#

Smashing

dense spire
#

I hate to say it... but there would have to be a place in the fight for Vinegar. That crap was annoying af to get, but it's the right play from a thematic perspective.

#

Again... this is all assuming that the Bony Abomination becomes a repeatable boss after the miniquest. Honestly I'd be okay with letting it be a one-time thing.

#

IF it's repeatable... the pet would be fantastic.

rain ledge
#

Personally i think it would be better as a one off boss of intermediate+ difficulty, scaling around the difficulty of the quest or miniquest i suppose

#

But thats just my take

#

I could see master level

#

I forget what rabm2 is rated

#

Rabm2 is experienced

dense spire

Then it would have to be Master.

RuneScape Wiki

The Skeletal horror is a monster which may be fought after completing the Rag and Bone Man wish list and Fur 'n Seek wish list miniquests.
The horror may be killed once a week after completion of the miniquests, resetting every Wednesday at 00:00 UTC, or twice if a weekly Distraction & Diversion reset token is used.
Once defeated, the Odd Old Ma...

#

I know it's not a one for one

#

But scaling it stats for osrs

#

Would put it at about 500 health

#

Which would be too easy

#

If they put it at 5k tho that would be way too much

rain ledge
#

yea accounting for the lp hp ratio and also the fact that in rs3 you can deal massive damage so much more quickly. But i dont think 500 would be too easy, graardor only has 255 (of course he also has minions), vorkath is 750, corp is 2k

#

glod from grim tales is probably the easiest master level quest boss

#

being level 138 with 160 hp

#

of course the moons have high levels and hp but their mechanics are a bit different, sorta new age osrs style

#

sins of the father had vanstrom at lvl 459 and a difficult fight

#

so, yeah somewhere between those would probably fit

vocal mirage

true

#

but glod honestly hits harder

rotund edge
#

most people do DT1 way underleveled for fast ancients

#

I think 500-750 hp with a 39 max hit could make for an interesting boss fight

rain ledge
#

I guess I would say the question is this:
-Would it be an easy QOL upgrade or a quest-locked upgrade?

If it's a qol upgrade, it might be easier to convince jagex to implement it, but it might be very limited.

If it's a quest locked upgrade, it might be harder to get it implemented because quests take a lot of work and time to develop, but it might be a lot better of an upgrade.

If we want it to sit at a quest unlocked upgrade, for a master quest, then I would expect the RABM3 quest to require a decent prayer level, and the gathering of harder to get bones like say skeletal wyvern bones or dagannoth bones, which, if this is the case, the bonesack should carry these types of bones after the quest.

rotund edge
#

depends on how it's balanced with the whole cut off the limbs mechanic

vocal mirage

I honestly just want a sack to store valuable slayer bones and/or ashes and don't really care where it's from

shove it into shades of mort'ton if you have to

rotund edge
#

true, wouldn't be bad

rain ledge
#

yeah, same, i don't really care where it's from either, i mainly want it to aid in slayer tasks

#

or collecting bones as an iron

rotund edge
#

I just really want a shitpost quest update with R&BM3, Another Small Favor, Rat Catchers 2

#

just run it back on all the meme quests people hate

#

have us do another one of those gnome shape puzzles

rain ledge
#

exactly, rabm2 isnt exactly everyones favorite quest, it's really just one big pain in the ass like one small favor and rat catchers, so getting excitement going for rabm3 would probably be hard

rotund edge
#

that's why they gotta do it for like April Fools or something after a game jam

#

instead of getting new seasonal events I would 100% rather get joke quests like those just to fuck with the playerbase

#

but give them all actually decent rewards

#

a bone sack would be straight cash

rain ledge
#

lol, yeah, i'm trying to think of a nice way the bonesack could be implemented with an upgrade that gives decent functionality without being op, but without requiring a big quest

rotund edge
#

as long as it isn't a wilderness unlock or something

rain ledge
#

that would suck

rotund edge
#

I don't want to see more zombie pirate/chaos druid type updates

#

I mean I don't mind new mobs and shit getting added to the wildy

#

but I don't want to see stuff set there as the only drop location

rain ledge
#

i mean yeah because this wont be as dramatic of an upgrade as going from god cape to imbued god cape

#

another aspect of the bonesack is that currently its equippable

dense spire
#

I would strongly prefer that it should work like the bonecrusher in that regard: equippable if you also want the stat bonuses, but it still performs its primary function (gathering bones) if it's in the inventory.

#

As for the difficulty of getting a whole new Rag and Bone quest written and coded just to introduce this upgrade... that's why I think it should specifically be a miniquest. No more bones to gather... just let us fight the Skeletal Horror (moderately stronger than the RS3 version since we're talking about a one-time encounter) and have the Odd Old Man explain that the Bonesack will now hold bones. One and done... easy.

polar swan
#

IMO a bone sack upgrade wouldn't need to come from the skeletal horror at all necessarily. Any new repeatable boss could potentially drop it

#

Rag and bone Man 3 but getting bones from bosses also sounds like kind of a sweet miniquest

sick palm
#

OP makes sense, but it’s kind of ironic that it would be more useful to have something to hold bones before the quest rather than after. Sorry if someone already suggested this: what if the bone bag automatically collected bones when you killed monsters, instead of having to pick them up? Kind of like Ava’s or loot bag etc..

#

A hard cap on how many bones can be collected at one time would be important of course. I’d say 1 inventory.

rotund edge
#

28 is standard for most sack items anyway

#

Could make it collect bones by default and maybe later get unlocks that let it auto collect other remains like ashes

#

Though that won't be nearly as useful

#

Would probably just be used at someplace like Vyres

rain ledge
#

Yeah, either fish barrel type of storage or herb sack type of storage, though, the bonesack currently is much easier to get than either of those

#

fish barrel type would probably be more ideal than herb sack

polar swan
#

I don't think "everyone gets a free sack holding 28 bones" is good for the game. IMO it starting with 3-6 & upgrading with some later game item to 15-28 would be better

#

(and adds motivation for Jagex to use as a reward for some new content). I feel like they're always looking for new reward spaces

rain ledge
#

Yeah i agree, i think it is a bit steep to instantly give it like 28 spaces, thats why when i originally thought about it, i thought something like 9-12 to begin with

dense spire
fluid thorn
#

Could just be a diary perk 🤷‍♂️

#

Varrock diary is a little underwhelming as is 🤔

dense spire
rain ledge
#

I mean, that's a pretty good spot for it actually

#

and that way you could scale how much it holds based on diary

#

7 per diary

#

so most people would get somewhere between 7 and 21 which is not bad at all, and for those who have the stats can unlock 28

dense spire
#

That could definitely work.

I still like the idea, though, that we have to defeat whatever monstrosity lives in the bag before we can store bones in it. But then once we finish the R&BM3 miniquest or whatever, having the capacity be based on bones would be a great way to scale it. If implemented, I'd be satisfied with either that OR basing it on prayer level.

rain ledge
#

I do still like the idea of having to get the skeleton out of the bag it just makes sense, but i'm just trying to think of the best way to do that without making it some giant quest

#

A miniquest may be really the only way

#

I mean, most of the miniquests we have are kinda exactly that, either an extension of a quest or a way to introduce something that's related to a quest or should require a little bit of quest like material to obtain

dense spire
#

That's why I think it's the perfect solution. You go to the old man's hut wearing your bonesack (or you ask him for a new one) and the moment you have it equipped in his presence, the thing pops out and you kill it. Requires R&BM2 completion to start, recommendation is maybe 90 combat level. Skeletal Horror (or whatever they want to call it) should be weak to crush, bone bolts, and crumble undead, with a strong resistance to stab weapons. I think the Horror should also drop a variety of noted rare or semi-rare bones when you kill it. If they want to make this a repeatable boss fight, I don't see why they shouldn't. Also a skeleton pet would be a very cool but not necessary perk. Once you're done, you get to use the bone sack according to your prayer level and/or Varrock Diary completion. I would recommend the following values:

Varrock Diary determines how many bones can be stored:
No diary = 10
Easy = 12
Medium = 15
Hard = 20
Elite = 28

Prayer levels unlock bone types that can be stored:
Any level = Regular Bones through Big / Jogre Bones
40+ = Wyrmling
42+ = Zogre
45+ = Shaikahan
50+ = Wyvern
60+ = Dragon
70+ = Drake
78+ = Fayrg
80+ = Lava Dragon
82+ = Raurg
85+ = Hydra
88+ = Dagannoth
92+ = Ourg
95+ = Superior Dragon

99+ = Long and Curved Bones (since you're presumably done training prayer)

Bonus feature: The sack should be upgradable such that the old man will rig it to pick up bones automatically. I'm just not sure what that should cost. Maybe a lump sum of GP? Or more bones? Or unnoted pots of vinegar?

rain ledge
# dense spire That's why I think it's the perfect solution. You go to the old man's hut wearin...

I think this is a very good outline, I can see the scaling in the diary amounts of bones makes sense. There are a few things in the prayer levels that I would sort a slight bit differently maybe, for instance, here is a list of the bones and the xp they give. I would perhaps split them up more based on their xp given like I did here. I don't see why wyvern bones should be before dragon seeing as wyverns require a slayer level of at least 66 to kill, and dragons have no slayer level requirements, and both bones give the same amount of xp. I would switch those two around or group them together.

#

That is of course if prayer level plays a role in which bones can be stored

#

Also, on your last point about the accumulation. Would this work in much the same way as an accumulator, while it is equipped? I couldn't really see people equipping the bonesack while on a slayer task if it provides no combat bonuses (which it shouldn't)

#

All that being said, there would of course be more options for upgrade if the fight is repeatable for a chance at different drops, and a non-vetion skeleton pet would be sick

#

If the boss is repeatable, of course then there would have to be some kind of cap on either how often you can kill it, or how many bones it drops because we don't necessarily want it to be farmed for loads of bones

#

Now, i would not be opposed to a sort of hespori type of thing. Randomly while killing monsters which drop bones of any kind, at some rate, a special bone will be dropped (like getting a hespori seed), which allows you to fight him and yield a nice little chunk of prayer xp

dense spire
#

Either way I agree it would have to be on a hefty timer.

rain ledge
#

Yeah, I've maxed an unrestricted rs2/rs3 account, maxed combat on unrestricted OS account, and now im playing my os iron which just reached 70 prayer. I'm not trying to make irons easier, but prayer is certainly one of those things that is very difficult for an iron, but easily buyable for a regular account, so i dont see it diminishing regular account progress, only giving a slight boon to irons

dense spire
rain ledge
#

I could see that but maybe at +2, i wouldn't want to put it on par with skillcapes or max cape

#

Although, i suppose it could have a higher bonus for thematic reasons simply because it is prayer related, sort of like the soul cape

dense spire
rain ledge
#

Ah gotcha, i mean it's pretty close

#

A lot of these decisions would ultimately come down to jagex and polling

dense spire
#

Somebody who's good at math would have to crunch some numbers. That's not my thing.

dense spire
rain ledge
#

It would be great for regular black demon tasks or vamps but they drop ashes feelsroqman

dense spire
#

Basically I said +5 because that makes it a poor man's soul cape. There's abetter option out there, but you'll have to grind for it.

rain ledge
#

Yeah, i mean ardy cloaks are frequently used for prayer bonus, it would sort of replace that

dense spire
#

Right... And that really would just be a side benefit. The main point of the item would of course be to pick up bones. I don't really even care if it's wearable so long as it helps me keep track of the most frequently dropped item in the game.

rs3's got a bunch of lore about the odd old man and the skeletal horror

#

the skeleton that the odd old man is rebuilding in rs3 is like an ancient horror from the 3rd age

like the cave horrors and jungle horrors

dense spire
#

Yeah... instead of making up some wonky storyline, this seems like a perfectly suitable way to handle it. Skeletal Horror it is!

lament tartan
#

the mahjarrat also aren't actually skeletons btw, they just resemble skeletons because it's been a long time since the last ritual of rejuvenation where they extend their lifespans

dense spire
#

True. And I'm pretty sure the ritual doesn't involve the player character collecting a bunch of rando bones from around the world. So R&BM3, whatever form it takes, is best left completely separate from the Mahjarrat quest line.

#

Bone sack holding bones is intuitive but not really important imo.

dense spire
rain ledge
#

I think we've kinda ruled rag and bone man 3 out, rs3 is a playground for throwing in all sorts of stuff, but osrs team and players are a bit more reserved on adding in extra quests and things i think it'd be hard to find support for a rabm3

dense spire

If they want to give it to us without a quest or miniquest, I'm totally down for that... I just don't know how they're going to explain away the creepy creature that's currently in the bag without at least one more piece of content... and at that point there might as well be a boss fight so we can feel like we earned something.

But I don't need a whole quest. That's why I'm saying a short miniquest is the best answer. Get the man one last crucial item/talisman/macguffin, bring him that AND the sack, fight the Skeletal Horror, and obtain the usable item.
