#Allow Ironman Sell to GE (Clickbait Title)

Clickbait-y title cause its technically true, however the idea has a twist. Allow Ironman accounts to sell items to the GE for the same value as normal accounts, tax included and all that jazz, however.. the gold is not accessible and stays in the GE and can only be used to pay for Bonds as current Ironman GE mechanic allows.

Maybe even make it so the items aren't actually sold to other players but instead go straight to the item sink/tax system, thereby removing items AND gold from the game in exchange for game time to Ironman accounts.

What would be the cons list of this idea?

This is kinda already circumvented by Death's Coffee, with items sacrificed paying for death fees, using the item's GE value. I don't mind the idea of membership being paid through items, irons would just drop them over to another account anyway. The key cost here would be the 10% cost associated with making the bond tradable. Implement that, and the minimum 10k per item, and should pass the poll

rocky dragon
#

Bond fee doesn’t apply if a main buys a bond for themselves, why would it on an iron?

elder radish
rocky dragon
#

Right now paying for membership on an iron requires +10% cost for perceivable reason, as well as a second account to do the transaction, unless you pay with direct gp on an iron, which is much harder to get than on a main

#

This proposal would make selling your unique dupes for bonds, farming things like brutal black dragons, selling tree seeds, etc. better and easier for ironmen to get bonds using existing “bank value” without needing to have specifically raw gp or a second account and a 10% cost fee

elder radish
#

Sounds like its a pro for players and a con for Jagex, is that a fair assessment?
Even if you include the fee from making it tradable to make the bond price comparable to current cost, the loss of needing a second account to make the purchase of a bond will ultimately lose Jagex money.

rocky dragon
#

Not really, account 2 can be f2p

elder radish
#

Either way, there would still be some measurable loss if a second account wasn't required, membership for it or not.
That's the only big con i can think of for this idea.
Still want to hear from others though, I'm genuinely curious if this could be a thing in the future if people would want it.

rocky dragon
#

Oh yeah I guess that’s true I was just thinking gp

# elder radish Sounds like its a pro for players and a con for Jagex, is that a fair assessment...

i don't see a con for Jagex anywhere, besides having to invest time to make something like this work, which is fine with me. Reason being someone had to already buy the bond with real money, it doesnt just populate out of no where, and it takes gold away. Only thing that would be gone is the tax on it because i dont believe bonds get the G.E tax, only Conversion fee to trade again since its worth a significiantly higher % and takes gold out regardless.

IMO, this would vary how it would work when Jagex decides to look down the avenue for Jagex Account based membership rather than character, as this would most likely change the cost and application of membership and how players can go about obtaining it for use on multiple characters.

As it currently stands, would be great at least for someone like myself, who doesnt have time to play both a main and iron.

elder radish

no problem.

elder radish

After some thought, i dont think even a change to how they handle membership would effect this idea, I think the fundamental Bond mechanic of 'Pay gold for game time' will remain unchanged regardless of how it applies to the player, so this idea can still work as is.

This is actually a great suggestion! You got me worried with the title at first lol but with this proposal it's essentially just skipping the steps of dropping items over to an alt to let them sell it and then transfer bonds. It's already in the game in a way so i say this would make for a huge quality of life update for ironmen.

sonic elm
#

nothing wrong with this idea , but something about letting irons directly benefit from GE prices rubs me the wrong way

#

if this is done the item should 100% be given to another player who buys it , so it cant be manipulated like death coffer where you can get 100m of benefit from an item that is only being actively traded for 50% of the value

elder radish

# sonic elm nothing wrong with this idea , but something about letting irons directly benefi...

It does feel a bit odd to think Irons using the GE in any capacity would be a thing, since the entire OG idea of being an Ironman came from refusing to use the GE or trading with other players.
The only reason I even suggested this be a thing is because they already added the GE interaction of being able to buy a Bond. So I figured if that's the only thing irons can use the GE for then why not make it more accessible? 👍

I wouldn't mind either way on how the item is sold through the GE, as long as the gold can ONLY be used to buy bonds and nothing else.

I'm not saying this is a bad idea, I hate having to go the circuitous route for bonds on my iron. But there is a way to avoid the 10% fee. You can redeem bonds for membership codes on your main instead of directly using them for days. The code gets sent to your jagex messaging and you can use that code to redeem membership on your iron. That's how I usually do it, so I avoid the 10% bond transform. But it's also clunky and long and annoying

viscid wadi

Just get rid of bonds, all they do is promote bot farms anyway.

#

I agree with your goal, just was sharing for people who didn't know and wanted a way around the 10% cost

mental hull
#

I know rationally this just mitigates losing items when dropped on the ground

#

But something feels icky about it

#

I don't have good rationale as to why though

wet crescent
#

Yeah it doesn't really change anything except eliminate steps along the way. Ironmen are still "selling to the ge" by dropping dupes to a main and then selling them to fuel bonds. That just feels like a pointless roundabout way to do it. I understand people feeling like it goes against the nature of Ironman to use the GE, but I think it's something that can still be addressed. The deaths coffer argument feels a little better than direct GE use for many people I think. Either option is fine in my mind, it would just be a nice qol to address imo

#

I predominantly play on mobile. When I wanna bond up I usually find a friend who I can drop items to, then logout and login on my normie to accept the items and sell them. Then buy bond and trade in for codes. Then logout and go to message center, screenshot the codes then logout, log back into my iron and go to message center to redeem each code, then log back into the game. If you've ever logged in/out between different accounts you know how annoying that is. The whole process takes a good 10+ minutes, which feels bad when it could be done in 3 seconds if I could do it all on just my iron without logging out

rocky dragon
#

I think the main point though is just not needing an alt that is a member to take your stuff though to sell for bonds

elder radish
naive cosmos
#

I agree this is annoying would also love the ability to trade players as long as they can't offer anything in return. Allows irons to split after selling

#

Or at least let us have an option to use coins on a player to provide them with gold after selling

#

But i guess the other concern would be that getting gp on an iron would be infinitely easier, maybe this has been addressed above though

wet crescent
#

Introduce split coffer as an iron item kekw

#

You put items in it and it auto sells at -5% GE and then you can use it on people to give them split coins

elder radish
# naive cosmos I agree this is annoying would also love the ability to trade players as long as...

Semi-related to this idea, i can see it. It would be pretty nice to be able to split drops with my main friends. But i don't think we should blur the line on the trade restriction like this, this idea of an iron selling to the ge for bond money is already uncomfortably close to GE/Trade limitations that Ironman mode was built around.
The default is usually FFA on drops when running content with an Ironman and i think we could keep it that way.

This can work when jagex decides to let your membership work across multiple accounts (1 logged in at one time per membership)

elder radish

elder radish
# alpine acorn Yes

Oh, then it doesn't really effect this idea, that rumor is for how bonds apply to characters/accounts.
This idea is for how ironmen sell items to the GE to obtain bonds.

brisk relic
#

Eh, I dunno, I don’t like the idea of irons being able to interact with the GE other than to buy bonds. Irons should have as close to net zero influence on the game economy as possible (outside of account hacks and PK deaths), and even if the items are sold to the GE tax/item sink system, that means less gold for the item sink system to destroy mega rare items in general, in exchange for destroying items that would’ve never entered into the game economy in the first place.

#

Ultimately, IMO, it takes too much effort for Jagex to build a balanced approach to irons interacting with the GE that would satisfy a similar net effect that irons had prior to an update like this suggestion.

In other words, it’s too much work to build something that must have a negligible difference before irons being allowed to sell items in the GE, and after this suggestion.

naive cosmos
#

The thought is there but probably every single iron drops all dupes to another account. So thinking that irons don't already do this is simply incorrect. other points are fine though

#

I do agree that it's probably mroe work than its worth

# brisk relic Ultimately, IMO, it takes too much effort for Jagex to build a balanced approach...

I can agree that its a pretty small QoL change that would take up dev time, i think it would still be worth polling to gauge the communities interest, pass or fail i would love to see the results.
I also stand with @naive cosmos & @alpine acorn that some items gained by irons do see the GE already and already contribute to the item sink, this idea only effects that balance in that it makes it much easier to buy bonds on an Ironman by removing the middle-man.

I'd actually play ironman then... Bond upkeep for 2 accs is too much with current prices

elder radish
astral python

Way way more so GIM as well btw

unkempt prism
#

This is a pretty great suggestion that unfortunately will just hurt Jagex's bottom line so I doubt it'll get added

#

Having to bond 2 accounts will always be preferable to them

astral python
#

Well it more so ensures the longevity of bonds tbh since it'd technically be much more doable to double bond that way if you multilog

It would also make mobile ironmemeing without paying with irl money actually possible which is huge
Only problem is inflation being a shitshow toa and wildy too op

elder radish

Worth Polling to gauge interest at the very least.

# elder radish What do you mean by "ton of downsides and issues"? So far the only issue anyone ...

Oh the idea itself is grand
They'd just be contemplating multiloggers and goldfarmers potentially and mby make account hijacking easier

Ofc that's hardcore theorising and account hijacking isn't what it used to be with jagex accs but implementing a means to stop drop trading would make ppl very mad

But then again this change would also just make people very mad cuz they have issues w everything

#

Ah ye I was talking about the main one sry brain works

The downside of having both on 1 membership is p much sweats and goldfarmers getting double the loot for the price of 1 or alt abuse memes

#

And implementing the change to drop trading would both be torture and Uber negatively received

elder radish
astral python
# elder radish I'm skeptical about the idea making it easier to hijack accounts, could you elab...

Actually that too yes
The main idea is that people would be making double the GP for free cuz of having 2 accs on one bond (arguably flawed logic but... Go figure... Have to argue w ppl for remnants of the eye stuff to not be 100 hours to grind and heart not 300 lol)

My point was more so it'd make it better than easier since you'd get 2 accs for 1 potentially... I think honestly I was half asleep and still am lol

elder radish
# astral python Actually that too yes The main idea is that people would be making double the GP...

Ooooh I see what your saying. Your thinking of the idea that in the future a bond would apply to the whole jagex account and not per character.

Yeah nah, I'm basing this idea off the current mechanic of 1 bond 1 character membership.

If jagex wants to change that then they can do whatever works best for their payment model.

But the focus here is to simply make it so Ironmen can sell items to the GE for their GE value, only the gold stays in the GE and can only be used to purchase and activate bonds.

astral python
#

Not quite I was referring to membs allowing 1 main and 1 iron

#

But yeah as my initial message said it'd be huge for people wanting to try ironman

#

Bonding 2 accs is just not sustainable nowadays unless you're endgame or wildy sweat

#

It's great idea minus the 10% tax. Which as mentioned is allready avoidable by simply getting the membership code on the main and redeeming it on the iron.
And the point of the 10% was to keep people from merching the bonds. Not to make it harder to use them on irons.

polar saffron
#

Mechanically, this could work something like Death's coffer. There would be a chest or an NPC someplace (Adam in Lumby?) that they would bring items to as "tribute" or something. The GE values (or HA or raw item value? Not sure how we'd calculate this one) would just go straight to the bond fund in their pouch.

fallen steeple
#

It would have to be GE values. The main point is to get around having to drop trade to a main account to have it sell the gear and buy the bond. Also don't want to let them basically high alch things for free that would be a bit of a problem.

polar saffron
#

Fair. GE values it is... but handing them to Adam as an item sink feels more in line with the IM immersion/mindset.

i'm not sure how many ironmen actually get to the point where they could sustain bonds by selling items to the ge
