I think the biggest issue is the attack animations have to be re-done.
But they could easily fix that by some upgrade that makes either one a neck slot item or something.
If anything, they could just literally steal the animations off from defenders and call it a day as well.

not necessarily spaghetti code so much as it requires changing the engine itself iirc, which is generally speaking a huge task. not saying this cant or shouldn’t be done but assigning resources and dev time to do this should be for greater benefit than giving this one item more use

If it's an engine problem maybe they can make it a two handed weapon when combined with the Imcando hammer to make some sort of Asgarnian carpentry set, that way the main hand weapon slot checks off as both a hammer and a saw
