#Lock the Arceuus Spellbook behind a Miniquest/The Ascent of Arceuus

At the moment, you can access the Arceuus Spellbook very, very early on, thanks to the fact that Favor was removed. I believe all that's needed is access to a POH with an Occult Altar, or for Ironmen, getting to Kourend. I'm not sure, exactly, 'unlocks' the book for use.

I know you don't need to complete Ascent of Arceuus or A Kingdom Divided to unlock it, as I haven't yet. I have access to Kourend, that's it.

The only reason I bring it up is that I'm barely an intermediate player - my main is only 1200 total level - and man, a lot of stuff in the Arceus spellbook confused and rattled even me. I can't imagine how much trouble it might cause a genuinely new player.

Also, Ironmen are like, weird snowflakes (no offense to Ironmen), and I guarantee you they're going to get fussy about people having access to it in unusual circumstances.

Considering the other two spellbooks are locked behind a quest, the Arceuus spellbook should at least be locked behind a miniquest, given the removal of Favour and its derivatives.

80% of the spells are locked behind varying quests, garbage idea

It's 24/44 spells (~55%) that are locked behind A Kingdom Divided only, not multiple quests.

I would still put the other 45% behind The Ascent of Arceuus or a thematic miniquest.

why do you have to call it a garbage idea XD

Ultimately we have way more than enough unlocks to discourage new players as is.

Sure, there are additional quests, since A Kingdom Divided itself has quest requirements, as well as skill requirements.

I don't think I've ever heard someone phrase it as "varying quests" though. In the same way that no-one would say the Lunar spellbook or Ancient Magick are locked behind "varying quests"; they just say Lunar Diplomacy or Desert Treasure 1, respectively.

That's besides the point though; there's still the 45% of the Arceuus spellbook which isn't gated behind a miniquest or quest (or "varying quests"), or even skills. Which feels odd given the rest of the spellbook and other spellbooks are gated behind some amount of content.

Perhaps an argument against gating the spellbook is that unlike the Lunar spellbook or Ancient Magicks, there are many very low level spells you can cast. So it would be useful to access these at a low level. I'd argue that The Ascent of Arceuus should be low level enough.

Alternatively, perhaps to point players in the direction of the spellbook, the spellbook can be unlocked not by completing the quest but during the quest (similar to Fairy rings and Fairytale 2).

There is not one unlock from favour only that I consider to not have been dead content

#

Everything that has any value already had a quest req , meaning it was unlocking unlocks

Fair enough; perhaps "only, not multiple quests" was poorly phrased. But I'd argue "varying quests" is also a poor phrase - that sounds like one quest would unlock some spells, and another quest qould unlock other spells, and then another which unlock further spells... which isn't the case. The point is more that the other spells are gated specifically behind A Kingdom Divided - whatever its requirements are, be they other quests, skill requirements, etc.

Tbf I feel that using that interpretation only bolsters my point not diminishes it but I conced there

The point is the standard spellbook is... well, the standard one. It's the default one you get first. There wouldn't be a point as to gate it behind content.

The question is whether another spellbook like the Arceuus one should also be gated behind content or not. Given its existence revolves around the changing of spellbooks, I'd at least try to find a nice way to introduce it. That was part of the point of Favour.

Nothing of value is there already

I don't use the Arceuus spellbook that often personally, but it has some niche uses that are useful to know about. Maybe the pre-AKD portion needs to be boltstered a bit though e.g. a few more teleports, a few more combat spells, a few more utility spells

I'd still argue that something like a miniquest could help showcase what value the pre-AKD Arceuus spellbook has - even it's low value - just to show off the niche use cases.

arc spellbook always had some gatekeep since release so now to not have it all i think is a bit jarring to people

#

also thralls are pretty big its actually insane increase in dmg

#

but im based im very much a big fan of more gatekept untradeable progression in game
