#Tool box

the problem a tool box/belt solves is mainly quests for newer players/people questing for the first time
all it needs to hold is those 5 most commonly used tools
and you certainly should have to take them out to use them
I can see the argument for it being able to hold a bronze pick and axe but idk
The Dwarven army axe is a tool that serves as a steel hatchet, bronze pickaxe, and low-level slash one-handed weapon in one item. It has no requirements to wield or use. Players can receive it by completing the To Lumbridge path as a reward or by claiming it from Major Mary Rancour. Should the axe be lost, a new one can be obtained from the Majo...
It could be expanded to have a rope attachment, a flint and so much more for an all in one adventuring tool
This tool is a great idea. but Kill it at that. Pick, hatchet and low lvl slash weapon is enough.
nah. don't rs3 my osrs pls thx
tell that to the guy who made the post
im just saying this is the most i’d be fine with were it to happen
but also rs3 having a similar thing is not a good argument again it btw
RS3 has a prayer skill, does that mean the skill shouldn't be in OSRS?
Instead of using wiki page as the sole source of information, you can go there use Adze or DAA see how they feel to solve the problem
And let me tell you, Adze having axe and pickaxe was a godsend for convenience
Osrs is already "rs3"ed up all over the place. The difference is applying quality updates from the game that have a place, specifically QOL that makes sense.
Correct.
Should we not ask Jagex to add to Osrs the ge update rs3 had that allowed ge prices to go over max cash? The same update that ended price manipulation and scamming for current rares, should I add.
We already have a toolbox item that can turn into a rope, chisel, spade, or tinderbox
The rogue kit can be obtained as a reward from the Rogues' Den minigame. When used, it can be made into a chisel, rope, tinderbox, or spade. Once used, it cannot be changed back.
There is a 3/8 chance of obtaining a Rogue Kit when a player successfully cracks the safe at the end of the Rogues' Den maze.
The main use of this item would be in case...
But uhh it's an untradable reward from Rogue's Den
Which is a massive miss in terms of:
- Most folks who get this are done with most quests where this would be useful (or at least know how to use RuneLite cause God help anyone doing rogues den without RuneLite)
- they're one-time use so the 7+ minutes of getting one of these is never gonna be shorter than the time it takes for someone to run to the bank after they forgot an item
yeah, I was thinking about the rogue’s kit and it’s just too obscure and too inconvenient to get
Correct. But I think he was more along the lines of easyironmode - like making things simpler for ironmen.
I agree. Though equally helpful for new irons and mains
But how would something like this fit into OSRS? I think folks would riot if the toolbox was added as a default like in RS3
100% will riot. The box legit makes it EXACTLY like the RS3 toolbelt.
Good intentions, but bad idea
We already have precedence with tackle box so something like this could be added, but likely as a reward from something
well see like tackle/ seed box it's limited to a specific item
Which then misses the target audience
like gem bag for gems, crafting. Coal bag for coal, smithing
You know what, actually this would be a good idea for the construction skill, come to think of it
Able to hold a hammer & saw
Level like... 75 - maybe?
Multitools could be the next tier of rewards yeah. Amy's saw & the barronite hammer have distinct anti synergy at the moment
But I also think it should be limited to basic hammer/ saw. not like a holder for DWH spec 🤣
For sure. So some possibilities:
- Dwarven army axe with same bronze status as RS3
- a more accessible / useful rogue's kit
- a mould case
- hammer + saw multitool
First two would likely want to come from nooby quest lines or bosses
Mould case from some kinda crafting mini game or higher level content
Hunter kit already coming with Varlamore
Maybe adventurer's kit holding multiple ropes, spade, tinderbox
Crafting kit holding chisel, glassblowing pipe, needle & thread
What if we add Switzerland to osrs just so we can have authentic Swiss army knives with at least 10 tools
imo this is not a good idea
not just bc "omg rs3 thing"
but because its like, not that big of a deal really
even as a uim i dont think ive never gone "well fuck i forgot xyz" except for the rare case i get a spade for clues
yeah it’s not really for experienced players imo, it’s for newer players to help alleviate some of the struggle of quests
For max rage add adventurer's kit as a reward from quest speedrunning
RS3 greatly alleviates some of the struggle of quests, maybe RS3 would be the game for you?
back to reddit with ye
but seriously I cringe everytime I see someone say this, lol. The new player experience currently is not good, and going “erm actually you should play a different game if you think the experience for new players should be improved” does not solve anything
If its limited to basic tools like chisel , hammer , sheers ..etc then I see no issue either it having a 1 box item slot
It just becomes problematic when you start throwing in hatchets , pickaxe...etc
^ exactly
.
Personally I have no issue as long as you still have to take it out like the fishing box or seed box
The point I'm trying to make is there's a very clear, and simple reason why RS3 and OSRS are split the way they are. If they weren't, we'd all be playing RS3
It's a VERY hard line to find when considering what to update or change in OSRS. Regardless of what happens, conservation of what makes OSRS needs to be taken into account basically at all times, or else EoC 2.0
The "New Player" experience has arguably gotten monumentally better since actual OSRS, and I feel like with 20 years of playing this dumb game, I can comment on that. There comes a point where too much is too much, and I genuinely feel like incorporating too much RS3 for any reason isn't a fantastic idea
adding an item that mainly affects new players, letting them carry around a few basic tools in one inventory slot to save some of the grief of running back and forth to banks while doing quests that dont tell you what you need until you need them is LITERALLY EoC 2 /s
It's been that way since the day RSC hit public release. That has nothing to do with EoC
if you want things to never change, maybe a '02 private server would be the game for you?
I never once said I was against changing things lol
inventory management and running back and forth in quests IS the OSRS experience
It literally teaches players the importance of inventory management right from the getgo
turns out that experience actually sucks for new players, who knew 🤷
There are just WAY too many "QoL" suggestion on this discord that completely negate the fact that inventory management is a very core part of this game specifically. This, that inventory loadout suggestion, adding flax to farming so it can be noted for less inventory space
Yeah the experience sucks so bad that you clearly suffered from it but are making posts about the game is the game's discord which a new player is statistically unlikely to do
If a new player doesn't want to commit to runescape because they have to run around a lot or manage their inventory, than the game is NOT for them, considering that's like the entire mid game, and what the most amount of time is sank into
I started playing for the first time this year and since then I have sunk an unhealthy amount of hours into it. It took me multiple attempts to get into the game, between the run mechanics, the quests making you go back and forth near meaninglessly to fetch more items exaggerating the issue of run energy, etc. At some point, after both stumbling into mechanics and features that helped alleviate the issue (and were not communicated to me at all), and probably developing stockholm syndrome, I started to have fun and work through and around the mechanics
Now, consider how many players like me did not push through or give the game more chances, and instead just quit. Maybe the reason Jagex doesn't stop bots from destroying the game is because they're not pulling in enough real new players without them- who knows? Regardless, I certainly believe the new player experience is better than it was years ago, but it's not good enough. I like the game and I generally don't want to take away what others like about the game, but when what you like about the game is archaic mechanics that filter 99% of new players, forgive me when I think it's reasonable to make improvements without hurting the core of the game
I really don't disagree with you, don't think that's the point I'm making because I promise I'm not. The main point I'm trying to make is that we can't just change all aspects to make it easier for new players, you know what I mean? There needs to be a clear line set by Jagex, with Jagex needing to understand at the same time that we can't be delving into "easyscape"
Like for example, making that Rogue's kit tradeable. In my opinion, that would solve this specific issue to the point where it isn't specifically easyscape, but doesn't trod the line on something like that damn toolbox from RS3
Yeah it's a fine line to manage for sure , which is why as long as its not something that just saves multiple invent slots or let's them have a notable advantage then it's probably okay in my eyes
Inventory management Is very important and shouldn't be over simplified through numerous QOl
Adding more tools to the Rogue’s Kit and making it tradeable would help to an extent but when new players are unlikely to learn it exists except from outside sources, and will likely be hesitant to spend their sparce GP buying it from other players if they do learn about it
But at the same time there isn't much harm done in making the gearing up process easier
I’m definitely not asking for the rs3 toolbox, as to my knowledge it holds a ton of shit and takes no inventory slot
I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to the idea of having a preset for GEAR specifically, but auto inventory? no thanks
What's auto inventory
automatically putting a preset inventory from your bank to your inventory
I think this is absolutely reasonable however:
- takes up an inventory slot
- holds 5 tools: chisel, knife, spade, hammer, tinderbox
- you need to take the tools out to use them
Doesn't speed up skilling or let players do anything they previously couldn't, the main purpose is that new players can take it along for questing when they don't know what tools they might need.
I do assume you're against the quest helper plugin judging by your other opinions, and an item like this would reduce the need for it
I'm completely impartial to the Quest helper honestly, I've been using quest helpers since 2002
HOWEVER I will say that runelite allowing lines being drawn, showing in game exactly where you need to go, who to talk to, dialogue options to choose, I think that's a bit too far, but at the same time, Jagex didn't do it so idk how to feel lol
Jagex are going to do it
But I would agree it's the closest thing to just cheating we have in runelite 😂
It's only second to clue solver plugins
But yeah I'm essentially here with this
Maybe I just don't care enough these days, because even this I wouldn't have an issue with
it's RS3 time for u old man
🤷🏿♂️ I just don't see it making a negative impact
You still got to kill the boss 4000 times for the pet. Even if regearing takes 5 seconds

Clue solver plugins are baked into main game now too 😅 Jagex embraces the easy scape most of the time
But often doesn't turn these things on by default
the question i have honestly is
would it include higher tiers of items
e.g. imcando hammer
bruma torch
whether or not i would vote yes on a poll for an item like this would be equal to the opposite of what you answer that question with
Why would it? If the item is aimed at new players, why include high level versions?
People making their second account will head straight for wintertodt on their iron. People making their first account don't do that
idk, doesnt seem necessary but wouldnt be super impactful either way
I have to counter argue that I think you should be able to use tools stored in the tackle box without needing to make them out.
Seed box is understandable since it's impossible to know which seed will be used.
Tackle box could work since there is only one possible tool that can be used when interacting with any given fishing spot. With the one exception of fly fishing which also has stripy feathers. It gives you a dialogue prompt to select what kind of feathers to use if you have both in that case.
agreed because the tackle box kinda sucks rn
or at least you should be able to use bait straight from the tacklebox
Oh, and another take. Let the Angler Outfit passive also apply while in the box. Make it work like the clothes sack with the Forestry kit.
