#God Alignments - Fixing the Ruinous Powers!

Each Alignment could be locked behind a boss/raid drop or quest. For example, you could add the Tumekinian and Xerician ones to ToA and CoX respectively. The Serenist Alignment could be a reward from SoTE or Gauntlet. Alignments would be untradeable unlike the Prayer Scrolls and would be permanent unlocks.

Swapping Alignments would requiring praying at any altar with a piece of that God's equipment on (I.e. praying at an altar with a Zamorakian spear for instance).

Each Alignment would have 4 prayers, and most Gods have both Combat and Non-Combat Prayers.

Each Alignment would be useful for a different piece of content or play style, requiring you to swap before combat or bossing. For example the Bandosian Hammer prayer might increase the damage of 2h weapons or the Armadylian Bird prayer might increase one handed ranged weapon attack range by two tiles. Do you want to bring the Xerician Deflect prayers or the Zamorakian stat boost prayers? The choice is yours.

The issue with the Ruinous Powers was that they replaced the existing prayer book. Most combat in OSRS is built around the prayer book, so the Ruinous Powers had to emulate a lot of the features from the original prayer book. RS3's Curses fell into the same issue, and ended up just becoming a superior version of the prayer book.

Instead of the Ruinous Powers replacing the OG prayer book, turning them into an Alignment you can use alongside the original prayers makes them a useful unlock without devaluing existing prayers. Plus, new Alignments can be introduced to expand reward spaces and diversify gameplay. It's horizontal progression, not vertical.

"Think this is genuinely a brilliant idea - we're going to stick with no new prayers for Desert Treasure II but we're absolutely not closed to new prayers. This has given some really good food for thought on how we look at it in future.

After reading a lot of the commentary on here and other platforms I was getting more keen on the idea of new prayers added to the regular book rather than new prayer books - this takes that just to a new level.

Will continue mulling this over!"

I can't post photos lol

I really love this idea and would like to see it implemented. one thing I'd change from the concept is how you swap between the alignments - I feel like having to equip some god item and then pray would be quite the hassle, and sometimes result in accidental alignment changes. I think a much simpler solution would be to add a "Choose alignment" right-click option to every altar.

Or even dedicated altars spread around the world like how spellbooks work

dire cloak

yeah, different altars are already aligned to certain gods so it could work that way, Im just again wary of how much of a hassle it would be when you just want to recharge prayer points

I think praying at any altar works well. It locks the Alignments so you cant change in combat, it isn't out of the way and it adds increased value to altars in the world

The main thing I like about it is how horizontal it is, it's not like adding a new weapon, it's like adding a new type of weapon/weapon slot.
Suddenly which prayer you bring is a thing you have to think about. Teams might bring diverse sets of Alignments.
Maybe somone brings Bandos for armour breaking, Saradmon for shields and Guthix for heals? The possibilities are endless

in a way it's kind of like a new equipment slot for just prayers

solemn bay
#

Exactly, it gives prayer an actual use

#

I'm in favor of the Alignments being permanent unlocks that are untradeable, but they could always make a designated slot for them in the equipment menu and make them tradeable

#

That way they're like a piece of gear you bring with you

This is an interesting theory, as long as these prayers have specific uses and aren't anything like Ruinous Powers, I'd be on board with seeing where this goes.

#

I'd like to the community to be open to more lifesteal prayers as well, as that is a fundamental part of Zarosian lore within Runescape

solemn bay
#

The prayers themselves are up to the Community and Jagex to figure out, Prayers are a huge headache to design and balance lol
I was just proposing this as a way to introduce new prayers instead of a prayer book

Seren would be really cool as well, possibly a skilling type prayer, I like the idea

solemn bay
#

Something interesting is that each God doesn't have to just have one Alignment

#

There could be a combat and skilling one for each God, that way the two prayer types dont have to compete

#

Seren and Guthix would be great for gathering skills and runecrafting, Zamorak and Saradomin I feel would have production skill prayers, Bandos shouldnt have any skilling prayers lol

Agreed, I really liked the idea of 2h prayer buffs, like you said it gives a niche way of having to choose between the content you're currently doing without devaluing the current prayer book

I really want each alignment to suit a playstyle/equipment style, not a combat style. Just having a ranged/melee/magic one would be incredibly boring. I tried to design Armadyl and Bandos specifically for that purpose. Some of the prayer ideas I suggested include things like distance from target increasing accuracy, or an accuracy boost based on how slow the weapon is. Alignments should be playstyle choices, not a piece of gear to complete your melee setup lol

#

I put all the deflect prayers and stat boost prayers into Xeric and Zamorak specifically for that purpose. You have to choose which one you want to bring with you. It introduces choice to pvm and pvp

This is a solid suggestion to expand prayer without pure powercreep progression.

Im writing up some ideas as we speak, the way i see it, it could be up 6 slots with with an awkward "L"-shape at the bottom.

Bandosian and Guthixian prayers could be rewards for backported Chosen Commander and While Guthix Sleeps as well

Zamorakian could come from the vyre quest finale

#

Xerician from the finale for kourend

#

Menaphite form the desert finale

#

Saradomin from Sea slug/white knight

Xeric does not seem to be a divine being, i cant see him having prayers, the other gods mentioned are divine.

solemn bay
#

That's true, but with how much power he carries, the fact he seems immortal and the strength of his followers, I'm tempted to classify Xeric as at least demigod

#

They could always explain it away as drawing power from the dark altar to fuel his prayers or something

blissful kiln
#

Xeric can definitely get prayers

#

He's a demigod who attempted to become a god

#

And is still attempting

#

So he's not too different from most of the other gods who are similar

Now this I can get excited about. I like this idea a lot! It addresses the problem of reliance on standard prayer book staples and allows new and mutually exclusive prayers to be added to the game! All of that with nice game flavour! I'd vote yes to a fleshed out version of this concept in a heartbeat.

I do still think they should add Gambit to the normal prayer book, though.

I've imagined god-aligned prayer books in the past, as have others, but the thought of only giving a small handful of prayers as an expansion to the default book is brilliant, and definitely solves one of the major issues with the proposed rewards for DT2. ๐Ÿ‘

#

I particularly appreciate the way you have recognised the value in adding Trinitas to the default list of prayers. ๐Ÿ˜‰
