All jokes aside, give the ability to create cannonballs out of higher tiers of metal. However, these would be untradable and offer no difference than normal balls. Currently mithril is cheaper than steel despite using more coal, so allowing the surplus to be used gives more smithing xp and offers cheaper ammunition

#

Hard pass

#

You want to usurp granite as the DPS increase, and make it tradable?

#

Talk about power creep

#

Imma have to vote no on this one, sorry

#

Also, are you talking coal ore?

#

Coal... bars

#

I don't think buffing damage will solve your problem

#

In fact, that has the opposite effect

#

Steel is already such a high throughout, do you know how many cannonballs are consumed daily?

#

And with Giants foundry, more bars are being used that previously didn't see much

#

That's not a problem of the bar, that's an issue of the items literally not being used for anything else

#

The larger daily consumption is for fletching supplies, dart tips, bolts, etc

#

No, enchanted bolts are used very much, and they have to come from somewhere, and there aren't many sources except soul wars? The problem with their creation is the bolt tips which I've already made a suggestion to improve

#

And darts are used even more, to the point that for just fletching XP alone, they've crashed mithril darts to 2gp

#

You're not considering the sheer volume of daily trades. Even if you deleted 100k right now off the grand exchange, it would be the tiniest blip on the market

#

Wherever there is a margin, there will always be someone to take advantage of it. That's why most items stay near alch price

#

Rune will always be tied to it's alch price. There'sb simply no use as efficient than 12k/bar

#

Steel is checked by three demand for cannonballs

#

Addy is kept valuable because Diamond(e) and Ruby(e) bolts are common bossing ammo, but not too expensive because it's the 2nd highest XP and money at blast furnace, with the side effect of being the easiest too

#

I'm telling you, making cannonballs deal more DPS is not the answer

#

For 15x the price I highly doubt that

#

I still think your logic is shallow here, you're not accounting for many factors. Mithril is a terrible alch because it's the lowest high level ore, it's uncommon as a drop, and is functionally equivalent to steel while using more coal. It's only real use is dart tips, at 20 something million a day

#

Yeah no shit, with 69 (nice) million daily volume, that's 17 million steel bars used a day

#

Again, the option to use alternative bars higher than steel is a good idea, giving them extra damage is not. However, higher tier bars means more XP, and another end product than alching to recover the cost

#

If you remember the donkadins rock or whatever, the man literally went bankrupt trying different metal cannonballs to smash down a wall

#

Exactly. Just like there's little reason to use onyx bolts at all. It's prohibitively expensive, and currently only exists as the apex, the high ticket loot item, doomed to be an alch until someone rich enough uses it for it's intended purpose

So let me see if I can help you understand. The alchemy price of an item is it's minimum value: from slayer and bossing it effectively is a coin drop with added inventory space. For skilling it's a means of recovering value of supplies. XP is given based on the materials used, and while some materials are cheaper, the base price stays the same. Some materials are just more available, or unfortunately botted to all hell. The fact is, even offering the option to use higher level bars with no additional benefit would bring them back up to a minimum of steel bar's price

#

While also allowing higher level miners, who don't often get iron ore anymore, to use up their next lowest available bars
