A skill about breaking down items in a non-buyable way and using the resource to create utility items that benefit current content.

Old School RuneScape Wiki

Alchemy is the skill of transforming matter into other forms of matter. The central aspects of the skill are an untradeable, stackable item that is gathered through skilling gathering (you still get skilling experience) and item drops and making devices that have a wide array of benefits. Small amounts of experience gained by transforming items ...

I can't read this on mobile. Is it a custom wiki page you could link to?

Neat idea, it's like a combination of the good parts of divination, warding, and invention while still being its own thing and fitting with the theme of rs. One note though, I'd make most of the combat devices equipable either in off-hand or ammo slot, otherwise it could get pretty op having 10+ different effects active at once (and annoying to manage)

Perhaps like you unlock the ability to use 3 at 99 or something

Would the items be equipped (in what slot?) Or just go in your inventory?

#

Oh I see that's the same question as 🍍

Some I think could be equipped but others like the spell ward would be used from the inventory

I liked warding so I like this also. A few differences which might make it more popular:

  • Transmutation (why transmutation & not alchemy?) is a more resonant medieval concept than whatever the heck warding is
  • no GE sink / requires manual collection

That said perhaps make them untraded but you can dismantle the devices to get 80% of the clay back.

Would be nice to get feedback rather than just downvotes on there.

I think reddit is probaly just very hard set on sailing

#

personally think the idea is pretty cool seems like invention done in a different way

#

really like the idea of passively getting sacred clay through a variety of activities (seems similar to getting charms but you can get clay from anything not just pvm)

#

I do kind of feel however since you can passively get clay there isn't as much of an incentive to break down items. on rs3 to get some of the best perks you have to grind pretty hard breaking down tier 90 weapons (which imo is equivalent to the tbow shadow scythe on osrs) and this is just a chance of getting biting 3 instead of biting 2

#

it creates a pretty complex system/interference on rs3 which might be a bit jarring on osrs with the component system but I like the idea of being forced to break down items constantly to get the best perks of the skill

#

if everything broken down is giving you the same resource (sacred clay) then you probaly would never take out tbow scythes etc from the game

# nova kettle if everything broken down is giving you the same resource (sacred clay) then you...

True, also the amount of clay you would need to get for a tbow would have to be a massive amount. I originally included the clay cost of each device and was going to have a table for the resource to clay rates but was unsure what they should be. I thought about having the devices use clay as charges or something and just have levels be upgrade paths. Could gain experience by using the devices.

it is totally fine IMO if people don't ever disassemble mega-rare items but it does feel like a missed opportunity from the skill. Unless you get maybe a special tier of sacred clay(this type of clay would be required for the best devices/high lvl ones) for disassembling torva masori tbow etc I just can't see people apart from ironmen breaking down and removing those items from the game. even if you get way more clay from disassembling tbow the fact that you can disassemble anything to get clay long term just makes it feel obsolete to practically do.

I might remove the limitation on having to gather resources to get clay and just let you break down anything.

Not devaluing gathering by giving lots of drops is a nice motivation to the skill.

Yeah salvaging materials is something that the game should have already but for some reason they would rather make Warding.

#

The issue with getting resources from salvaging rune armour and the like that way is that high alchemy exists

#

I think another interesting idea would be to salvage effects or unique materials from all boss drops so they are still valuable for that

#

You don't spend 80% of your time adding a picture book to your post and you will get no engagement lmao

#

At least people will add to the discussion here

#

I would at least like some "this is a shit idea" comments on my post

#

Hmm yeah I tried to make it so that you could say chop teaks or something and get clay instead of dropping. Or just afk slayer.

#

but I guess people want another skill that they have to grind by itself?

#

But they also don't want a grind

#

XP would be from mostly devices that also make skilling easier
