I think sailing has a lot of room for growth which is probably their goal, its clear the content locked behind it was not meant to matter if your 99 or whatever.
the real strenght of sailing is the ability to design islands and create barrier content

Crafting released with glory being the top dawg, along with fletching had rune arrows as top arrow
You don't even scratch the surface of the BiS ship progression by the point you are 99
slayer released with abyssal demon being the strongest slayer monster
Imagine having to do grind a 1/500 drop to be able to use one portal nexus
ya old jagex did not typically bring the "we're just gonna have this suck because we're scared of things being good" mentality to new skills

a new smithing method with rune keel parts it was profitable afk 350k exp an hour

yeah but a lot of those things suck
The bleed pot (if they ever add a bleed boss)
And did not need a new skill to justify their release

i did go an get 99 woodtuctting from 92 on ironwoods
they compared one thing to existing training methods and then the rest got compared to imaginary methods at the time
so there was no gague on how that looked after several steps
Arma brews are really niche, not as impactful as a lot of people were saying
Yeah they did explicitly say, "We feel we may have been too generous with afk methods. This applied to salvaging and also to the woodcutting

I think sailing was good, they added a skill that has potential to influence a lot of things at once. the island ability to design spaces in which to stick content is massive.
Maybe I am just spoiled comparing it to the last few RS3 skills like holy fuck archeology was so good

They released it to have room to grow, the baseline of having the skill and the islands is there which is all that matters

But it has to connect with the rest of RS
i mean they added a lot of tiles to the game and stuff could go there and we have a cool way to get there so like
i get it from a technical pov that it was probably impressive to them
but for all of us we couldn't care less
put something on the island we want to do
in due time it will, im sure.
All the future dev time about to be wasted on fleshing out content for the skill ๐
Is there a single place that is faster to sail to than using traditional transportation methods
integration should come after release, not during, best way to make sure it stays self contained if any problems arised

it probably doesn't end but it probably hits a bit of a finale and gets pushed into the background

My pet theory is that they want to converge with RS3 lore and tackle Xau-Tak shadow realm stuff
They're just skipping all the 6th Age stuff
ngl the only reason i want to see that quest is that i want to know how we time travel or whatever occurs
there's one more mahjarrat quest before the finale, it's a original quest (not a backport) but is a new take on/inspired by a rs3 quest
The one thing I want to see from that quest is if it's even theoretically possible to turn the awful WGS into something that wasn't just a waste of time to add to the game
i actually also expect that quest to somehow branch off towards the blackstone stuff

WGS introduced a ton of random characters nobody cared about, had a very forced and contrived plot, and didn't really have any engaging storytelling at all other than the stone existing
them being a little light on exciting content does make the raids 4 teaser + league announcement make sense

those are both kind of break glass in case of emergency things to tell people so they look forward to stuff

Jagex has a thing with new quests, backport or not, where they change things (often for little to no reason)
for example, with SotE's release, they also went through and changed a lot in the elf storyline
sins of the father, same thing with myreque storyline
i just dont really know where their head was at with the changes during wgs bc like
I recently replayed the myreque arc on my alt
if you were sitting there reading them side by side like they must have to make the changes
theres no way they thought they made it better
A really good quest line even though the individual quests are long and annoying
Secrets of the North, changed hazeel cult, fight arena, completely rewrote Devious Minds, etc
unless they weren't paying a lot of attention and didn't notice that a lot of stuff made no sense because they knew why characters were doing things because they read the original
but somehow didn't catch that the osrs version did not include that information lol

there was another moment too where you went to tell an npc something at falador castle but in the osrs version there was absolutely no reason for you to assume they were at the castle
i think they rewrote that part now but lol i noticed it the first day

Uniting both key parts has so far proved utterly frustrating, without even the slightest sign of success. In order to attain the very high temperatures required to meld the parts together, I have stocked many items and a kiln in my special workshop. So far, all efforts have proved useless. The effect of magical pyre logs and coal is intensely fierce, yet it still doesn't make the key parts warm. The same is also true of my attempts with magical heat.
I fear that, in my enthusiasm to unite both parts, I shall lose both as they melt away into nothingness in the kiln. Such is the intensity of my recent tests that the kiln has even broken. Further research into the peculiar metal is clearly needed, but to whom can I trust such sensitive details?

I am still somewhat upset at the choice of excluding Legends Quest from requirements of WGS but still including the part about using a "charge orb" spell to open a door (obvious throwback to Legends Quest)
