I remember trying to get folks into CoX and when they saw that GPHR was less than Vorkath, they didn't want to pot something harder for less rewards, even if it was "more fun".

Anyone who says this means they have never played iron or experienced the game from an ironman perspective. i have a drastic ammount of normie friends who had maxed mains with all bis gear and they rolled to iron and absolutely loved every single minute, they went from never playing or rarely logging in to being on 16+ hours and loving it. even when they had to kill 3160 zulrah for a blowpipe, they loved it. the game is a completely different beast when you play iron, only once you get to absolute giga max does it become a drag an your better off being a normie if your persueing other goals like world record times or pking.

Depending on when you played it, id say it has changed drastically. ive been so moved by all the mid an early game stuff they done that id want to start a new iron or even a hcim. unforunately i dont got that kind of time anymore.
