Just looked at it, but if you specifically want to do tobs in a clan then you kinda do want higher combat level and scythe as those are required in most tob-heavy clans. You can always check out #1170031339039375522 yourself and look for clans through WOM to see if they actually run ToBs frequently. LFC section is usually overlooked by high req clans as a large portion of people posting there doesn't meet their requirements

I think there are people who don't read, but there are also people who read and share the copy pasta since it covers what you mention in your Lfg message

Just because someone is sharing a copy pasta doesn't mean they haven't read, they simply want to tell you what they offer. 90% of the time, if clans don't do that, people who made the threads also don't bother going to read the clans recruitment page to see what the clan does :)

I type out and personalize just about all my shit and lemme tell you... Hearing back from only 40-50% of people after going into detail is rough.
Much easier for the folks who don't do it, as long as they are actually reading the post it really doesnt have any harm realistically. Just less Personal is the only difference.

My clan utilises an events/bank account to collect and distribute large prize pool of GPs when doing our events.
I went to log on to it today to collect some buy-ins and it was locked for suspicous activity (I get it) but with clan coffer being so limited in the value they can hold we dont have many suitable alternatives.

Has anyone else had this? I plan to reach out to jagex support, has anyone else done so and been succesful?
Its currently holding the majority of a 750m prize pot + approx 500m in donations we've collected in preparation for other events 🙁

Most heavily used Clan wars to my knowledge is pure clans when they do prep fights
Most of the time that isn’t free to play anymore sadly. I think that era dissipated about 4-5 years ago.
Now it’s mostly P2P as the lpc (low pure clan) scene has essentially died.

Yeah man as someone who pastes my recruitment I’ve not got time to be adding multiple users in game, I try to provide a rounded invite as best I can and if the member is interested and likes what they read then they can enquire further but if someone posts on a discord not wanting replies on the post then they should use the clan recruitment world but I get you mate can sometimes seem like people aimlessly post I do try to read though as much as I can

I think it would be better if members could post into here and not be immediately pointed to looking for clan thread and leaders could have natural conversations with potential members

Quality over quantity, really. There are some clans who are more concerned with getting their member number up rather than seeing if the person is really a good fit. Personally not the type of clan I would join since to me that often means that there will be more drama and chaos, but others don’t mind that.

Every clan operates differently at the end of the day.

So we're just about 2 months away from the 5 year mark since the OSRS Clans system was released ingame (26 May 2021). So how about a weekly discussion topic in the lead up to that milestone.

Clans have of course been around much longer than 5 years, and many of us that are regulars in here have had plenty of memorable moments in their clan history - some of which may have come from when clans operated out of friends chats or from before the release of OSRS.

If you had to choose one memory that sticks with you in your experiences with clans, what would that memory be?

I'll start with mine - back in 2011 myself and a few other clanmates happened to be doing some skilling in Edgeville bank. We were a fairly small clan back then, maybe 50 members, so if I had to guess there were probably only 5 or 6 of us there. Someone in the chat eventually called out that we were doing some bankstanding, and a few others decided to join us to hang out.

And then... things got to be a bit extreme. Someone put out a cannon, someone else summoned an ent, someone else planted mithril seeds, and chaos ensued. We eventually nicknamed the event "Extreme Bankstanding" and what started as just a little bit of friendly banter between clanmates turned into something much more.

To some who passed by it might have looked like a riot. I mean, why else would there be random cannons in Edgeville. The game really wasn't all about efficiency back then as it can be today, but those of us 'xp-wasting' in Edgeville had a blast! Sometimes the fun moments in clans start from something incredibly silly, and this was definitely one of those moments.

Most of my screenshots from around that time seem to be missing unfortunately (I think I was in-between computers as I have the ones from later that year), but I think this one was either from that event or one like it some time later - definitely early in the chaos at that point.

So many memories over the years, picking just one is a tough assignment 🙂 but continuing with the theme of chaos and the first thing that came to mind....we always had big celebrations for people getting 99 fishing. We'd celebrate the level, then all gather at the fishing guild for the cape, assign the player to the "alumni" list, and all the other "alumni" (lvl 99 fishers) would line up and spam the fishing cape emote and get it all in sync to the same tick for a cool screenshot. Well over the years as the clan got bigger, we could have 30-40 people online spamming this emote at celebrations. One night we found the limit 😂 everyone within rendering distance kept getting disconnected as it was crashing the client. Was kind of a mass chaos as a few tries and everyone getting kicked off we realized what was happening. I think the servers were trying to tell us to tone down the parties a little, but it just became a benchmark after that of trying to overwhelm everyone with celebration

My favorite memory with AOG Clan by far had to be a late night COX trip a few months ago, for some reason we all had the giggles.. there was roughly 8-10 of us in VC spamming sound boards, throwing around jokes, roasting each other and spamming lizard memes in our public chat as we killed “the not so green Lizard” Olm. It felt like every second of that night was the most hilarious thing I had been a part of in as long as I could remember. It’s been years since I’ve laughed that hard, I’ll cherish that night forever

Probably would have a handful of great memories , but one that stands out the most is probably the day I founded my clan . As I’m not very active currently, but it still is special to me. We put loads of time and effort to growing it and today it nearly has 2000 members in the discord as well as constantly at 500 members ingame. Building something that everyone can enjoy and be apart of has been great. Couldn’t have done it without my buddy @vale dome . Throughout clanning experience I’d have to say my favorite event was a pking event at kbd . We had a large turn out and was also a blast to see new members coming out .

It certainly makes for a very tricky situation for a clan when someone goes rogue like that. Were you able to rebuild from that? Certainly would have been an endeavor to go track down the active members that used to be in your clan and for them to trust that the situation wouldn't happen again.

To my knowledge (and someone do correct me if I'm wrong) Old School doesn't have any safeguards that prevent a leader with permissions to expel other users from going on a spree like that. If I'm remembering correctly, perhaps that's a feedback point for future clan updates to limit how many kicks an individual can do per day.

Is there an event that your clan does in a way that no other does? Perhaps a unique spin your clan puts on an event that makes it different from any other clan. A clan bingo theme that puts an interesting twist on bongo. Anything at all - feel free to share!

One thing I appreciate. Theres always some kind of holiday/seasonal theme going on in the clan, it intertwines with everything from the regularly scheduled events that we have going on, to one off events that come around with certain holidays/themes. I really enjoy it because some people get into certain holidays/seasons more than others, even the "lesser" ones, so it seems theres always something to look forward to. And, its fun!

I created a unique event that ended up being used throughout many clans haha. But it's kinda fun to see how widespread it had become.

I called it "The 100" (yes, named after the show lol)

But we were tired of people who could no life grind events winning every Botw compared to those with more busy schedules.

So we made an event purely based off RNG. You have 100 kc within the chosen boss to try and acquire drops. Certain drops will be marked with points, so whoever gets the most points in 100kc wins.

We added a twist where we did a boss vs boss showdown with it too, so people could pick content they enjoy more.

Raids were the one difficulty we had. But other than that, not too bad with all others. Here's a recent one we did.

There's a nerd on my team who obsesses over drop rates, so they made them as even as they could. Point value is scaled by uniqueness too. We added in some regular drops too, so points can still add up.

Ranarr and glacial are both 1/100 but amoxy is a much faster kill

The drops aren't 1:1 across the bosses. I cba doing the math myself but like rune platelegs are 1/14 from araxxor and platebody from amox is 2 * 1/58. So I assume it all balances out eventually

And speed of kills doesn't really matter I guess if its just a flat 100 kc

Something we had done many years back was an event we called "Tested by Dragons."

I mean sure, bosses are scary and all that - but in your normal travels around the game, some of the scariest creatures you could come across were dragons. If you prep correctly they can be a cakewalk, but what if you didn't?

This was bare-handed dragon killing at its finest. No armor, no weapons, no anti-dragonfire shield, no cheating with Vengeance. You went in with nothing except tradeable food, tradeable potions, regular prayers and your fists. Or foot, if you decided to kick the dragon instead of punch it. The goal was to kill the dragon. If you did, you could bank to stock back up on supplies before moving up to the next tier of dragon.

And you did die. Maybe not to every dragon, but it was bound to happen as the event continued on. Definitely not friendly for hardcores!
-# Hardcore Ironman mode didn't exist back then, so they were safe...

We only went as far as the steel dragon from the records I can find on the event, and very few managed to successfully defeat it. I wasn't exactly a high level player back then so I'm pretty sure I died very early on.

RuneScape's changes to the combat system sort of broke the event over the years - most dragons became a walk in the park. It would be really interesting to try it again on Oldschool though! Despite some upgrades to potions and food I suspect it would still put up a good challenge!

If you had to pick one thing that's your favorite among the things the new system offers that the old system couldn't, what would it be?

Really the main thing was not having to pay an extra membership on the friends chat account anymore just to have the 400 rank capacity. The extra 100 capacity of ranked slots with the new clan system helped for a few weeks and yeah all the new ranks were fun too!!

It's a simple response, but my favorite feature of the new system has to be the expanded customizable ranking system and everything it entails. I love all of the icons it comes with, I love the flexibility to make ranks your own, it's really cool to see what clans have done with it since the days of bananas and stars and I love it even more now that Jagex has updated it to include more slots.

Something like the discord audit log where we can somewhat track moderation actions, for example who has invited someone or kicked someone from the clan would be really useful to have in-game. Sometimes I wonder who has invited and ranked certain members but there is no way to know for sure without asking around in our staff chats. Then obviously timezones and when you actually CAN play the game and people that are generally active within those times.

Personally when I ask folks if they wanna join me I kinda gauge what they are looking for because I really want them to find a home without wasting time essentially. To me all we really have in life is time.

As a leader of a clan that does allow it, and has talked to many other leaders about this in the past. I can assure you the majority of larger clans that have open applications allow guesting in their discords and cc's in game. You've probably just had bad luck finding clans that allow guesting. A lot of clans will let guests see a very limited amount of chats in their discords so it might seem like it's not even guesting, but that is what guesting entitles for most clans.

My clan allows users to guest within the cc but not the discord. Once members join they are “trialists” for one month and depending on their activity and clan feedback they’ll either pass or fail their trial.

I find that to be more common in hlc clans

Yes, several clans have a reward point system, there's many different systems as to how you can rank up in the clan and how participation is 'rewarded'

There's another popular site used to track people's progress similar to WOM called Temple. Some also create their own websites!

Just be sure that the system doesn't involve any RWT elements - most don't, but there are some that try and sneak that in somewhere and always best to stay away from that when it pops up.
