Attention, Clan Owners!

In one week, we'll be making some changes to the way the clan section works, starting with retiring the #clan-advert-board.

The clan section had started to get a bit spammy, so we wanted to take some steps to tidy things up. Over the past few months, we’ve been running the #clan-directory to make sure active clans are easy to spot at a glance - and we’re really pleased with how that’s been working so far.

In addition, the bump timer is being reduced from four hours to two, and we’re removing the blanket ban on testimonials. From now on, positive testimonials are welcome! So if you’re a clan-mate and want to use your bump to shout about a recent event you hosted, or just highlight what makes your clan great, go for it – we’d love to see what makes your clan unique and special.

It's important to note that this is just the first step in a longer list of plans we’re working on. Some things take a bit more time (and need a few extra checks before going live), but watch this space - there’s more on the way.

However, in the meantime, if there’s something obvious we’ve missed that you think would make the clan section a better place to hang out and chat with likeminded, community-focused players, drop us a thread in #discord-suggestions and we’ll take a look. 🙂

In an ideal world, we may look at reducing the bump timer even more, but baby steps for now and see how we go with it all 🙂

As of now there is no clear indication of when which punishment is applied, it all seems a bit arbitrarily applied, some clans get punishments right away, others get away 10 times without anything.

We’ve spoken about this before, quite recently in fact, if I'm not mistaken. But I want to reassure you and reiterate that taking action against a thread or a clan is something we really do see as a last resort.

If the guidelines and forum-specific rules are followed, there’s nothing to worry about. If you notice something that doesn’t seem quite right, please let us know via Modmail and we can then look into it and take any steps that are fair and proportionate.

I’d also like to clear up the use of the word ‘punishment’. Our aim is not to punish, but to safeguard. Any action we take is about opening communication, helping to ensure the rules are understood, and making sure all clans have a fair chance.

I hope that makes things a little clearer.

Yes, i do understand that and appreciate the insight, yet i feel like my question is being "avoided".
Are there clear guidelines that say "if a clan broke the bumping cooldown 10 times they get a break" or will that be decided on a case-to-case thing? Because the latter feels like it potentially leaves a lot of room for speculation / frustration of seeing nothing happen.

I say this as someone who often fights with the mods in modmail system. They don't tend to use hard and fast rules and prefer to be more lenient and forgiving to clans who repeatedly bump out of cycle etc. It can lead to some frustrations because it feels like I'm being held to a different ruleset than others because I have the ability to read and inform my clan, but ultimately it means this place doesn't become a "if you don't follow the rules, your entire clan of 100+ people get punished" which imo is a good balance

If a clan is deliberately bumping ahead of time and there's very clear evidence to suggest they're doing it on purpose, despite having a chat with them previously, then we might apply a lock on their thread for 24h while we re-open a discussion to ensure they are absolutely clear. It's very rare that we ever permanently stop a clan from advertising here.

However, what I can tell you is we are having internal discussions about possible server infrastructure to reduce the possibility and likelihood of early-bumping. Can't say more than that, and it's just an idea at the moment. But it's a consideration.

Yeah, i can deffo see where you're coming from and do agree with you heavily. I'm more pointing at certain very blatant cases who break rules very often and seem to get away with it, which can be frustrating from time to time.
In general i do appreciate the moderation a lot and I wouldn't do such a "patient" job, I would just mute threads pretty quickly hahaha

Yeah, I prefer to rule things with an iron fist sometimes too but this is a very public space full of very different people and it's probably a lot less drama for the mods if you're more lenient than close a thread and have angry clan leaders in your mod mail system

What's a fun bit of lore from yalls clans?

For example, we have this gim team of boars. They all would sit in vc constantly and they all were named after a color. So blue boar, red boar etc. They also are like mega spooned and its insane. Some people have tried to name change to a boar name, but the rng hasn't passed on that way unfortunately
