You mention its a project management course - in any project there is going to be a need for different strengths and likely they want to teach project management, not just coding.

For a website for example, while you'll definitely need developers to create the site you're going to need somewhere to host it - setting up a web server isn't difficult, but something that someone might need to do (what infrastructure to use, which off-the-shelf web server will best support the capabilities your group wants to use, how to properly secure it, and so on).

The course I went through that sounded like what you had went through all aspects of the software (or hardware) development lifecycle. Not everyone on every team is going to be pure dev. Someone might be really good at design, what your team is looking to present and how to present it. Someone might be really good at coming up with test cases that could break the site (click a, click b, then click back, then click c and it crashes). Someone might be really good at presenting it in a way that elicits feedback and praise from a potential customer.

Lots of different ways you can take it depending on the nature of the course and the project. Might not be your first choice, but plenty of ways to make the best of a not-so-great situation which can suit your strengths.

This project is basically create a business, he had a massive powerpoint and everything, my course is split in 2 branches , web development, and systems administration. Im in rhe sys admin side and it feels entirely like a web dev class project.

It doesnt involve any hardware which is a massive part of our class and every other project, noone ive spoken to actually knows who voted high enough for it to get in (class is only 18ish ppl).

We arent in business or any other sort of coding/website builsing courses since our 1 python/html class in semester 1 which we only had to take because first semester is the same in both branches of the course to allow people to swap to one or the other 2nd semester, eg. U like the web stuff and coding u end up in the web dev branch doploma, or sys admin if u like that

Ive emailed my proff and am gunna see if theres any other option, it was litterally lowest on my list with both people I didnt wanna work with

I installed a Server 2025 the other day and added it to an AD domain, it looks like Windows 11 now but everything else I've had to do on it is the same as its been for the last 15 years lol

we setup our first active directory server on 2019 for first week, I still dont really know what active directory is tbh

on thursday we setup an active domain on windows server 2008,16,19,and 22 then deleted them 🥲 that lab took me like 6 extra hours cause the textbook was so vague about stuff

my class has been referencing 'the tomsho special' cause the textbook sometimes just sucks so bad at instructions, it gave us the end reqs for the server and 0 steps on how to set that up

It works pretty much the same on each platform. I needed a 2022 or a 2025 one since I needed to verify something could communicate over TLSv1.3 and the server 2019 that I had was too old to do that.

There's lots I haven't touched in there... but the pieces I have are annoying. WSUS is deprecated as of Server 2025 but has its annoyances. MS Exchange is a royal pain if you have to set up an on-prem one.

Much prefer setting stuff up over on the Linux side, way less bloated.

In reference to what AD is, Its basically centralized management for a domain of resources. So if you've ever gone into a computer lab and logged in with a network account, that account (and that network) is likely powered by active directory. And it gets to control all aspects of things - computer policies, user policies. Information about users. Groups a user is in that can control what sort of access they get. Credentials for a user or for other systems on that network (such as certificates or service accounts). DNS for the domain. Lots more things I probably haven't covered.
