Sometimes depends on who you had as a teacher too. There are some really good teachers that want to see you succeed with learning programming and some that couldn't care less and you end up learning nothing from the class.

My C++ teacher was horrible. He'd tell us the abstract ideas behind what code commands do, but not how to implement it, and when asked questions he'd say "you should know this by now!"

Also I made a horse betting race program and he told me "it works but not the way I wanted you to program it to work" and docked me 10%

I had one professor for 2 classes that would put the slides up for the day's presentation, first have to read the slides, and then would attempt to explain what they were trying to say and got it wrong 80% of the time. At least his means of checking your homework was to see if you had posted something on your class webpage and if it remotely looked like it was related to the assignment you got credit.

I had another professor who would, on the exams, post a program and would say "Assume this code is syntactically correct" and there was absolutely no way that the program would ever compile.

The first processor also taught a lot of outdated stuff. "Web programming" was apparently cgi. Not Php, not Javascript, cgi.
