Hey everyone. This forum is all about campaign discussions and threads surrounding the game.

As an example of what that might look like, let's make a new continent for an as of yet unknown setting. Feel free to add little details and discuss things we might do to make this continent unique.

To start off with, let's say that this continent is pretty large, and the dominant population on it's northern half is Hobgoblins!

Seeing as how you're starting this off, I'm not surprised that hobgoblins are involved.

hahah a of course

I'll chime in that in the center of this continent, is a massive flaming pit that goes down 50 meters (165 feet) and roughly 100 meters in diameter (328 feet). It's rumoured to be a direct gate to Hell or the Abyss, but so far no one has been able to confirm it.

(Apparently images aren't allowed)

The southeast coast of the continent is mostly jungle, where a race of plant people formed from grape-vines live.

Wow, that process took stupid long.

(Images are allowed, just expect to wait for an hour.)

So we have the innermost area, northern area, and southeast coast filled out.

Ok, then lets look to the Northeast. The beach sand here is red with the occasional yellow or white fleck. The ocean also has a slight violet color. While most science-minded folk claim it is simply iron and the depth of water, the locals claim it is because of the blood of a dragon that has been pinned beneath the surface of the ocean for millenia.

You know, I was going to talk about one of my own homebrew continents with a large hobgoblin/goblinoid populace but I guess I'll save that for later.

#

As for things to add to this new continent: A city/set of cities built around the fiery pit at it's center - the inhabitants worship the pit like as a form of deity.

#

To the west are mountains, and the ruins of a great city at the summit of it's highest peak. The valleys and ravines now hold the majority of the populace, who stay hidden from the skies overhead, fearful of one or more flying monsters that abduct their people, only to return them as empowered, corrupted vassals to a mysterious evil.

Building on those mountains, let’s say that they house a cabal of Red dragons seeking to use their massive Kobold army to expand their domain. And just for fun adventure hooks let’s say they are at war with the hobgoblins for whatever reason. Maybe the dragons stole some treasure from the hobgoblins, perhaps the hobgoblins raided one of the dragons’ mine or something entirely different. Let’s say that thus far no active battles have been fought, but the dragons have sent spies to infiltrate the hobgoblins and the hobgoblins have started preparing an army

#

By the way can we have some towns with a moon rat infestation in the northeast? Maybe they are trade settlements, perhaps city states or a confederation of sorts, who have been visited by moon rats arriving by boat. Now the moon rats are starting to take over town after town. Maybe this has lead to an unexpectedly increase in cheese consumption causing cheese prices to rise and the towns economies to dwindle

Heh, honestly - that makes me think we should try to work in as many of D-Dads conversions into this continent as possible.

So the hobgoblins want the resources in the forest, and the Druids want to protect their forest, so they’re trying to build a wickerman to defend it. Or maybe they’ve already constructed it

#

Perhaps there’s a night twist growing in the forest too

#

If we want to make the region even more terrifying why not through in a portal to Carceri, a necromancer living in a palace out of a living wall and some seedkins

#

Then there’s like a ring of maybe a hundred kilometres or so full of terrifying creatures

#

And outside it’s just a normal continent

#

Or maybe not, just a suggestion

Between this and the central hell pit, maybe worship of fire deities is fairly dominant. Fire elementals and genasi are venerated, often found as saints in temples. Obviously this doesn't vibe with the very flammable plant people, but maybe they worship the sun (fire-esque, photosynthesis, ya know). I could see it also being another point of contention between forest-hungry hobgoblins with Brudolf's idea.

Oh, now I have an idea. Various sands throughout the land create different colors when thrown into fire. These colors vary greatly depending on where the sand originated and the color is moreso a product of residual illusion magic than chemistry. The religious point to this as evidence of divinity permeating the world. It also means that controlling a certain type of sand grants some power over religious institutions.

The fire is secretly an elemental god who is gathering strength by the various things being thrown into it and in time will devour the whole continent.

I wanna add something to this but I have no ideas

Bananas? No, magic banana’s grown in the forests from the illusory sands. They may be a way of divination. Thoughts?
