there is, the phrase "are you a friend of dorothy?" was a widely used method within the US navy back in the 80s and 90s.

the reason for that was because it was a refrence to the girl from "the wizard of oz" who had a bunch of queer friends. Queer at that point just meant odd. It was only later that the term became tied to sexuality or gender

Now, I don't have any experience in this so maybe I'm wrong, but somehow I would imagine it's much more difficult for gay men and bisexual men to find a male partner without a dating service, than it would be for them to find a female partner. Though that later bit really only applies to the bisexual male ofc. And I personally think this because of the stigma that same sex male relationships still, and maybe always will, have.
