Cyberware, technical implants, and Bioware, genetically engineered implants which enhance a person's abilities, emerged.
Amongst those born in this new generation are unique individuals born with the capacity and potential to wield magic in it's most powerful form. A side effect from this new world. These 'Awakened' are the chosen few who are destined to fulfill a higher calling, unlike any other before them. People can strive to become rich, successful, or famous, but you were born to be something greater...
