Here's the thing, there's nothing wrong with killing off main cast members. On the contrary, it can be one of the most powerful plot developments if used properly. So if you're setting up a good death, don't chicken out of it, it totally trivializes the sacrifice and actually makes me annoyed that a character is still living (even if I like them)
