The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is very good!!* While it does have a basis on some romance tropes, I have a key issue: *I'm a SUCKER for time travel and romance, so my opinion is heavily swayed from objectivity! If you've never heard of Promised Nederland. It was gonna be one of the greatest anime ever. Except season 2 was butchered. So if you wanna get into it. Watch season one if you want. But read the rest of the story

Having more than two character traits is the requirement if you don't want to have a nothing-burger of a character, it's not exactly what I'm into though

Ghost in the Shell or Psycho Pass are my Sci-fi recs. GitS is HEAVILY character and dialogue driven, i recommend picking up the first movie to see if it's something you'd like. (the first movie is an entirely different continuity from Stand Alone Complex which is the series. but the writing is similar. )

as for sci-fi, steins gate is a great one but might be a little complex for a FIRST anime

this and the above two i would recommend but maybe after you try some action shows

like 1 or 2 maybe idk

psycho pass i remember also being a bit complicated at times

yeah they come on strong which is why i rec the movie for GitS since it's only an hour and half. So if that's too strong then you wouldn't have wasted your time much. Psycho Pass can be comlicated but is normally a lot less so.
